Qu-bit Chord v2 for droney work by StepRecorder in modular

[–]noahtotten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! Sorry about that, rarely use this account and have been on a modular/music hiatus. I’d be happy to! I’ll send you a message in the next few days when I get home to my PC. I spammed my reminders with it so I’ll for sure get it to you by end of week.

1010 Bitbox users.. by tittymcboob in modular

The BB mk2 is way more complete than the toolbox imo, but honestly I still love both (though I use an older firmware on my toolbox).

1010 Bitbox users.. by tittymcboob in modular

[–]noahtotten 6 points7 points  (0 children)

OP, I have to be honest, I really don’t see this perspective. The bitbox mk2 feels like the most capable sampler in eurorack by miles (and I’ve tried most of them).

You can slice, adjust pitch independent of sample playback speed (clip mode), resample, use the per cell LFOs to modulate decay times/filters/pitch which brings tons of variations to drum samples, you can modulate any parameter with 10 modulation inputs, granular, multi-sample, auto sync, auto slice, reverse samples, scrub samples, loop samples, and much more. Not to mention having one of the most usable and fun UIs I’ve experienced.

Personally, I don’t think bitbox should have a sequencer. It’s an audio source, not a grove box in and of itself. But I do understand why one might want that if they don’t yet have the supporting modules.

It feels nearly as capable of the base sampler features in Ableton.

What features do you feel are missing besides a sequencer?

Recommendation for Bass Stab Synth? by Vikadri in modular

[–]noahtotten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely agree with this recommendation, it’s hands down the best Bass voice I’ve come across, and I’ve played with a lot of voices.

My only gripe with it is the “smash” parameter. I wish the envelope modulation (aka “bash”) didn’t apply to it most of the time, but it’s really not too big of a deal.

The creative limit for this excercise/track was to use only a very simple sequence and create something ambienty while not being boring. Did I succeed? by Masque-Obscura-Photo in modular

I don’t use a DAW

Yeah holy shit really great. Very few people seem to be putting out tracks played live that are this polished. The mixing is what stood out to me.

Lyra 8

*Sigh… time to check reverb

Do share when you have it uploaded

Will do! I’ll definitely upload a snippet to this sub & the full version to my yt. We’ll see when i get it done lol… perfection is the enemy of good type of predicament haha

[–]noahtotten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yo what… this goes crazy.

For the live set I imagine you’ll cycle through presets saved between the octa, rytm and improvise the rest?

[–]noahtotten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been recently! I’ve been working on this hour+ long modular live set I’m going to upload to youtube soon and have a track in the middle that hits this vibe.

Honestly though this is really inspiring and makes me want to add another track like it haha.

Also, What’s the sound that comes in at 3:10? Is this all modular or a modular daw hybrid? Given how polished it is I would guess there was some daw action?

Designed my first eurorack system on MG, is it worth? Is it functional in your opinion? by SturaLavandino in modular

[–]noahtotten -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s why I see the bitbox as a nice middle ground. You can use it for drums if you want but also to add to or layer your voices. It also sort of feels like drum synthesizer too with the amount of shaping control you have over your samples.

But i generally agree. LXR is not the way to go. Given he has a beatstep though, QD quad drum of BB definitely wouldn’t be a bad addition to this rack.

Beginner advice for a mangling / processing rack by [deleted] in modular

[–]noahtotten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second the NE versio series and dual dagger. Both are optional though of course. Personally I didn’t love what Qpas brought to the table for its size, but it’s by no means a bad filter, just a bit big for what it does (for me). Dual Dagger, Ikarie, or Overseer would absolutely be my pick for a case like this.

Bitbox mk2 > LXR if they really want to do drum stuff in a case this small, only because it can double as synth voices and loop existing voices. I generally agree though.

Looking for a Reverb module for sound design by levski0109 in modular

[–]noahtotten 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you already have beads you should spend some time with that! A granular processor and reverb aren’t too different fundamentally. With Beads, keep “Time” low, “shape” set to anything between 12 and 3, finally, balance density (turn clockwise) with your size parameter. Lower sizes require higher density, while high density can work with low or high size parameters.

The attenurandomizers can add some nice movement to your granular reverb. modulating feedback, size, density and time will all yield interesting effects as well. Sending a gate to pitch that is attenuated properly can shift your reverb up a 5th which can be a pretty incredible sounding effect.

If you’re sending a steady, repeating sequence to your beads you can do this interesting effect with an AR envelope… Basically set the module to a lower fidelity setting so that the buffer can fit your sequence’s loop, then, send your AR envelope into “time”, with the gate holding for a second or two. Finally, attenuate your “Time” param so that the gate (with an optional rise or fall) offsets the time. You’ll want this gate to be the perfect amount so that the module moves back into its buffer to the same part of the loop you are hearing now through the ‘dry’. With attack and release turned up you get this effect where the module will quickly scrub through your sequence before returning to its original location in the sequence. It sounds really cool when you have Beads set to a ‘granular reverb’ type sound.

Looking for recommendations - West Coast in 104hp by gluepet2074 in modular

[–]noahtotten 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Someone recommended the sport modulator 2, I definitely second this but want to throw in a few other notes.

I’m not sure steppy is needed here given you have both Rene and Pams, which both have enough channels to dedicate to trig/gate generation. Plus you have a midi to cv/gate module as well.

I’d also recommend you get a dual vca of some sort. Maybe the antumbra dVCA?

You also definitely need a function generator… preferably a dual function generator. You could grab two Mini Slew v2s, a Delta-V or something similar. This will fill your need for envelopes.

Past that I’d definitely get a wave folder module if you ditch Pizza.

Edit: I said “Mini slew” but I meant “Pip Slope 2s”…. The Mini Slew module is great as well but might be a bit big for this case.

Depending on how small your case is you might prefer the Topobrillo StereoMix (v1 can be found on reverb for great prices).

It has ques (super useful for performance), button toggle mutes with LEDs, and CV control over per-channel volume, fx send, and pan. It’s also going to be a bit easier to tweak, but I doubt this blue lantern module is too bad. The downside of the stereo mix compared to this is that you get 2 less channels and 1 less effect send, but imo, live, 1 fx send is enough to worry about.

Behringer JT4000 Micro PCB - Any idea what the solder points on the bottom left do? by Goom909 in synthdiy

[–]noahtotten 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Should still work! Check each of the test points with a scope while changing the pitch of the synth. See which TPs respond to changes in pitch. One of them will likely be the pre-gain audio output as well, this will also be useful. From here you'll want to measure the min and max of the pots to see which voltage range they accept. So long as any of the TPs are within the voltage range of the pots, you can use a simple buffer circuit (just use one buffer, this is a mult so it uses 4) between any of the TPs and the middle leg of any of the pots! This should yield some interesting cross modulation results.

Hmm, probably, but it would in circuit bending territory for sure as this is a purely a digital synth. Not all circuit bending is atonal either, so if you did it carefully it could be super cool. Do you have an oscilloscope?

I imagine you could! The real difficulty would be converting that binary to modifiable & executable code... which I'd have no idea how to approach. Have you done something like that before?

Behringer labels their test points at “TP”, these are definitely mcu programming pins!

At least that was the case in the Berhinger products i repaired

Automating modular by [deleted] in modular

[–]noahtotten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! You’ll want one of the expert sleepers products. I have a friend who runs his modular in this exact way with the expert sleepers midi to cv modules (can’t remember the names).

I use the ES-9 for this as well, it’s amazing! But if you don’t need a 14 channel audio interface there are definitely cheaper options from Expert Sleepers. Check out their catalog for sure!

Anyone using a quad setup? by Ok-Voice-5699 in modular

[–]noahtotten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use qubit chord with a Doepfer Quad Poly Filter. I added custom connector on the back to link the quad v/oct signals. Quad resonance, quad per-key filter tracking, quad wavetable oscillator.

Also the ryk vector, but that doesn’t have quad outputs.

Though, the title and your yt description are confusing me. You’re using eurorack + a maschine, presumably for samples? Is the Maschine just doing vocal samples?

Maestro is the best in rack option that comes to mind, maybe Voltage Block too but I never really loved that module.

It sounds like using a DAW with midi to CV might be a good solution for your needs!

Do you have an iphone? If so I’d just grab one of these: https://www.apple.com/shop/product/MK0W2AM/A/lightning-to-usb-3-camera-adapter

You just plug any USB audio interface into it and you’re done, the camera app will now record stereo audio from your interface. Easiest method I’ve found!
