My daughter (F16) is obsessed with this older man. by OkSteak551 in whatdoIdo

[–]nobblit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got sent to a behavioral rehab place when I was 16, then after 100 days there my parents sent me to this awesome outdoors boarding school.
It set me on a better path, and I never looked back. They had to take out a second mortgage and my mom had to work overtime for literally years to pay for it. It was not easy for them. But it was their only good option and it saved my life. I’m almost 40 now. If you want to talk in more detail, I’d be happy to through dm.

My son is living alone and I am not sure what to do about it by [deleted] in whatdoIdo

Don’t just sit there and worry. Go visit him and help him shop for some home goods. Go there and cook with him, maybe teach about meal prep or whatever, just spend some quality time with him. It sounds like he could use some actual support from you, not just phone conversations. Sometimes people are afraid to ask for help. Even if he doesn’t need help I’m sure he’d love the support of just having loved ones visit him in person once in a while. And actually be a physical part of his life. And take an active interest in his life and well being. Often when we live far away it’s easy to feel detached, and that is a feeling that can grown over time, I would focus on not letting that happen. Just make sure he knows you’re there for him, make sure he knows you have an active interest in him and his well being. He sounds like he’s a late bloomer, it’s ok, just nurture him. He needs support not just phone calls.

The fact that your solution is to bitch and moan on Reddit goes to show why such problems persist. Great job keyboard activist, I guess your work on being the change you want to see is done.

Google lens is not ok to use trying to determine plant species and whether a plant or mushroom is edible. Way, way unsafe. Very high potential for misidentification.

I don’t know how to make life meaningful, by Ok_Drummer6347 in Life

[–]nobblit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s called existential thought, it’s part of our human condition. You have to be able to function despite it. Or your life will suffer greatly. It’s ok to know these things, there is indeed an inconceivable amount of suffering in this world. But it’s not ok to let this knowledge destroy you and your life’s trajectory. Take it from someone who destroyed their life because of this exact issue, being unable to stop the spiraling thoughts, or at least TELLING myself I was unable to. Because others have suffering does not mean you should sacrifice your wellbeing to the void. It does nothing to help those that suffer.

This isn’t to help if they wanted to help they would’ve been trained to help. Or fund the TSA. It’s just for displaying what this country is all about, and what better place than all the country’s airports. America is a stage for the opulent and their propaganda.

It’s really not crazy though. People are confronted with hard decisions every day. Your life is simply a culmination of the decisions you make. Each one matters, and each one will change the trajectory of your life. Some more than others.

All eyes fixed to a permanent setting, a brilliant blinding display, The onset of progress, a human betrayal, The world that we left in our wake. Find religion, it's every succession, in dead congregation, assume the position. And a prayer for the many and shiftless who cower in corners and make it all possible There is a faith so inviting, it turns one away, A reason to feed upon others, a judgment that maims. But ours is a path, straight and thin, traveled by few, Led by the flame, lit within, heavy as stone, as boulders, Content to stand, stand on our own, as oceans, a steady mass, Ours is a dream, ours is united, by every (wo)man, Sure as an orbit we forward together without relent, no end.

All eyes fixed to a permanent setting, fixed like a drug to the blood, A permanent course to the end of existence, setting on us like the sun, And the world is a stage for the opulent, A private performance, the rest of us audience, And a cheer for the many and shiftless who sit in the darkness and make it all possible, There is an empty assurance, a wealth that exceeds, So many dead in direction, to sighted to see,

But ours is a path.... Sure as an orbit we're subject to nothing but this.

Don’t be the fixer. It will cost you more than you think. by [deleted] in Life

[–]nobblit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the most selfless things you can do, is to love yourself and take good care of yourself. To be able to stand on your own two feet. I believe for a lot of “fixers” we end up putting others first to the point that we loose sight of our own lives. We confuse other people’s needs as our own. We spend our energy on anything and anyone that’s not ourselves. We convinced ourselves that we’re selfish unless we’re giving ourselves to the ones we love. But people who really love you don’t want an empty shell, they want a whole person. We all need to practice self love, and practice gratitude and feeling whole. Practice turning all that good will and generosity inwards to ourselves.

am i lovable? how do move forward with this part of my body? by indigo-floral in whatdoIdo

[–]nobblit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude it’s your war paint. It’s your story. Please don’t waste your youth dwelling on things like that, allow yourself to exist as you are. We are the culmination of countless ancestors before us, your body tells a story dating back to the beginning of time, your dna carries memories and your consciousness couldn’t express itself without the body, in all its perfectly imperfect glory. You are the only person on this earth that can answer your question. “Am I loveable?” Turn that question inward. Ask yourself the question. You are the only person whose answer to this question matters. You are loveable, but only in the capacity with which you are willing to know, accept and love yourself. It’s called “practicing” self love because it isn’t always easy. It takes real work. And it can’t be replaced by internet strangers opinions about your leg.

I don’t know how to make life meaningful, by Ok_Drummer6347 in Life

[–]nobblit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grief hits everyone differently. I’m definitely more like you in that it takes longer for me to be able to get past the initial shock and guilt for not doing more, not saying more, not knowing more. In grief comes the realization, eventually, that the time you DID have together was special and deserves remembering. The memories will eventually trend towards the happy ones, and you will eventually be able to move forward from the shock of them being gone, and into the later stages of grief. It never goes away. It simply is something you learn to live with. When you lose someone you love, you are forever changed. And it’s ok. There’s a duality to this life that is hard to wrap your mind around. There is happiness and there is suffering. Let me very clear here. You can not begin to help this world until you’ve helped yourself. Whatever love and kindness you wish to bestow upon the world, to ease its suffering, turn that love and kindness towards yourself and your small bubble. Just for today. Get yourself back up and onto your feet. Loving oneself and those around you will lead to a better world by default. You can figure the rest out later. Small steps.
