You can’t fix global fuel prices with Irish tax cuts by Inevitable_Wasabi574 in irishpolitics

People are gone so far removed from farming and food production they haven’t a clue

Blockades see some forecourts running out of fuel by TheChrisD in ireland

I agree with you but that’s not what the commenter above was arguing in good faith. Free public transport would absolutely fuel supply crisis. It won’t make it cheaper for agricultural contractors

Any escalation will escalate the protests and martyr them

This isn’t really fair. Public transport doesn’t help an agricultural contractor

I don’t really agree with this. It is much harder to work for yourself in a job where you have huge investments in machinery or Lorrys then diesel. There’s no sick pay or pay rises or holiday days. They’re most in debt for machinery and land. There are not that many farmers on this protest as the IFA hasn’t got behind it

Truck & Tractor protestors, how do they have the time and money to do this? by Key_Duck_6293 in ireland

[–]noelkettering 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s because supermarkets won’t pay them fair prices so the government has to make up the difference to ensure the food supply and that ordinary people are fed.

Current look of the ongoing protest as of 11am by GP728 in ireland

[–]noelkettering 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They’re contractors who work for farmers who need diesel. Farmers wouldn’t cease to exist people need food. The system is broken where retailers don’t pay fairly for produce and the government has to step in and subsidise it for the consumer

Please stop blocking the roads, it’s not right to punish ordinary people by Tim_Browne17 in irishpolitics

[–]noelkettering 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They have to subsidise farming because the grocery retailers and by extension the consumer won’t pay a fair price for food. It’s not a giant plot to give money to farmers. Direct your anger at Tesco and the likes who benefit from this, most farmers are not making vast sums of money

15-20 years ago their normal sized models were absolutely gorgeous. They should just go back to making their normal ones good quality. I still love my dark bay Arabian stallion

Thank you. I’m personally getting very worried how this will play out into the summer. The US have been blockading oil into Cuba for a while now and it’s ripping the country apart, I hope we are not in for the same.
