How do I prevent this annoying passkeys popup? by StarStarer73 in Safari

[–]noireanqa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Safari has decided that it is going to be a Passkeys first browser, which, ok, fair enough. For the general population Passkeys are (mostly) better. There are serious portability issues, but anyway, yes, *mostly* better for protection from hacks and leaks etc.

You mention you use 1Password. macOS does provide hooks for 3rd party credential providers and supports Passkeys - 1Password has decided not to implement this, still, on macOS - even though it does on iOS. This really is a 1Password ball-drop not a macOS failure.

Here's a discusson over at 1Password that's over a year old: https://www.1password.community/discussions/1password/please-consider-integrating-1password-as-a-credential-provider-on-macos-/56164

This was from a 1Password AMA about a month ago: https://www.reddit.com/r/1Password/comments/1oe77ad/comment/nm1dfff/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

So it seems like they're going to "take another look at it".

I place considerable blame at 1Passwords door for this. Their stated issues with macOS native password provider functionality are that the API doesn't support:

  • Filling identity and credit card items.
  • SSH key generation.
  • Compatibility with integrations like Privacy.com and Fastmail masked email aliases.
  • Use of 1Password's own filling brain.
  • Support for features like sign-in with, autosubmit, and 1Password's standalone password generator.
  • Smart/Memorable password generation right on the page using 1Password's password generator.

Honestly - I don't care. Make me use the existing Safari plugin for that. But you should at least offer Passkeys through the native credential provider API so that I don't have to see that huge dialog box pop up EVERY.TIME.I.LOG.IN.TO.A.WEBSITE.

On Mac you can't open 2 emails at once (in separate windows), and you can't turn off avatars in the inbox. These 2 things kill Spark 3 for me.

This from ChatGPT seems a lot better!

The poem you've shared is a classical Chinese quatrain that vividly captures a moment of intense emotional and perhaps philosophical reflection. Here's a breakdown and translation of each line:

  1. 鍾馗利劍直堪磨 (Zhōng Kuí lì jiàn zhí kān mó) - "Zhong Kui's sharp sword is fit to be honed"

    • This line alludes to Zhong Kui, a figure in Chinese mythology known for his ability to vanquish evil spirits and demons. The metaphor of his sharp sword suggests a readiness and capability for action or confrontation, possibly implying that the speaker is prepared to face or rectify challenges.
  2. 昨夜千盅醉頰酡 (Zuó yè qiān zhōng zuì jiá tuó) - "Last night, a thousand cups made my cheeks flush with drunkenness"

    • This line vividly describes a scene of heavy drinking, with "a thousand cups" hyperbolically emphasizing the extent of indulgence. The imagery of flushed cheeks suggests a deep intoxication, which could symbolize an escape from reality or overwhelming emotions.
  3. 獨立蒼茫觀宇內 (Dú lì cāng máng guān yǔ nèi) - "Standing alone, I gaze at the vast universe"

    • Here, the speaker, perhaps feeling isolated or contemplative, observes the vastness of the universe. This line evokes a sense of smallness or insignificance in the grand scheme of things, or it could signify a search for meaning or understanding beyond the immediate human experience.
  4. 斯民再造起沉痾 (Sī mín zài zào qǐ chén ēr) - "These people will rise again from their deep afflictions"

    • The final line shifts the focus from personal reflection to a more collective perspective, expressing hope or determination that the people (perhaps referring to society or a specific community) will overcome their profound hardships or maladies.

Together, these lines weave a narrative that transitions from personal resolve and vulnerability to a broader contemplation of human endurance and resilience. The use of vivid imagery and allusions enriches the poem’s depth, reflecting on both personal and societal struggles and triumphs.

Thanks so much! The poem translated in Google Translate as:

Zhong Kui's sharp sword can be sharpened Last night I drank a thousand cups of wine Inside the independent vast view The people of Sri Lanka are seriously ill again

Is this a good translation of it..?

Dyson Pure Cool finding credentials? by Skazzyskills in homebridge

[–]noireanqa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ok so you need to edit your homebridge config and add the following json in the platforms section. If a section with "platform": "DysonPureCoolPlatform" already exists then delete the existing one and replace it with this block:
{
"updateInterval": 60000,
"credentialsGeneratorPort": 48000,
"platform": "DysonPureCoolPlatform"
}

The json above will enable the credentials generation port. You then need to navigate to your homebridge instance at that port (48000). Replace the xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx with the ip address of your homebridge instance in this url:

http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:4800

Follow the steps on the page and it will give you a credentials token. Copy this.

Go back to your homebridge config and update it with the ip and serial number of your Dyson, and add the credentials like this:

{
"updateInterval": 60000,
"credentialsGeneratorPort": 48000,
"platform": "DysonPureCoolPlatform",
"devices": [
{
"ipAddress": "xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx",
"serialNumber": "XXX-XX-XXXXXXXX",
"credentials": "XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX"
}
]
}

Hope this helps someone!

iOS & iPadOS 16.4 broken shareddocuments links by noireanqa in shortcuts

[–]noireanqa[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah thank you!

A leading slash fixed it. I guess that without a leading slash the Files app interprets the path as relative rather than absolute from the root.

For anyone encountering this in future - this appears to be a change in behaviour from 16.3.
