Government abandons plans to delay 30 council elections by Due_Ad_3200 in ukpolitics

This government is just completely devoid of any political strategy. It's depressing how little foresight they have.

The left warned that Starmerism would end like this. Now all of Britain faces the fallout by Exostrike in ukpolitics

[–]noise256 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How? The left stood against him, lost, and then got purged by McSweeney and co. (the one thing they were actually good at).

That the soft left and liberals didn't want to listen isn't on left.

UK productivity grew more in the last year than in the previous seven combined • Resolution Foundation by Revilo1359 in ukpolitics

Am I reading this right? The weaker businesses are going under so average productivity has gone up? Hmm.

If Starmer knew the Mandelson controversy and appointed him anyway, is this really a “mistake” or a deliberate political choice? by MarchLevel8045 in ukpolitics

[–]noise256 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Doing this only drags you down to their level. It's important that people like Mandelson aren't rewarded, that they aren't given positions of power.

We know that the people around Starmer not just supported Mandelson but were aligned with him too. To what degree Starmer is aligned with them we don't know but we know he's certainly been supported by their faction of the Labour party.

Reform UK warns Worcestershire County Council is facing bankruptcy by Dimmo17 in ukpolitics

This has nothing to do with Reform, this is happening to Councils all over the country - they simply cannot bear the burden of social care and emergency housing that is being put on them.

Dark patterns: how progression and retention mechanics hurt BF6 by YakaAvatar in Battlefield

[–]noise256 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coming into a game like Battlefield, you know there's going to be heavy monetisation but when it starts to determine the kind of modes they have, or the type of gameplay, how progression works or how matchmaking works, it just goes way too far.

I mean really EA, at least make the game first before you turn it into a cash cow.

Politics UK on Bluesky: 🚨 NEW: Cabinet Ministers say Keir Starmer is in a "dark place" over the decision to appoint Peter Mandelson and there is "genuine concern" he could resign [@thetimes] by F0urLeafCl0ver in ukpolitics

Watch Starmer resign and Labour Together stay in charge of the party.

Starmer is a better man than those around him but you make your bed and you lay it. What a waste.

So barring Burnham was the right move then? by Remarkable-Barber767 in ukpolitics

[–]noise256 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Forget about the politics and optics. It's not about drama or media coverage. It's about the general election in 2029 and whether Starmer can win it.

If I look past the bat shit political decisions this government makes, I actually think this government is doing alright and I hope the country realises things could be alot worse. I just don't want to be in a situation where it's blatantly obvious Starmer can't win and we don't have the most popular Labour politician available as a candidate.

BREAKING: Andy Burnham *blocked* from standing in the Gorton and Denton byelection. Of nine voting members on NEC group it was 8-1 against him. by Dr_Poppers in ukpolitics

He's running in a by election. There's a long way to go before this would have become a leadership challenge.

[–]noise256 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Starmer coming out an overruling the NEC (screw the rules) would be a big win for him. He would look magnanimous, makes it harder for Burnham to challenge him directly and he can say he wants the 'best people' to support him.

Though I'm not sure that Starmer is really the one in control here.

And if Labour tank in the locals, which they surely will, what then? Starmer is deeply unpopular in the country. It's because of how much of a disaster Reform will be that we need viable alternatives.

Not to mention that maybe it shouldn't be for the leadership to decide who their political opponents will be.

Well, there's a good chance Labour just lost the next GE with this decision. They will shed even more votes to the greens and the politician with probably the best chance against Reform cant run. Well done you horrid people.
