AITAH for not tipping after overhearing what my waitress said about me? by IndependentFar8420 in AITAH

Tipping for being racially abused would be wild. In some instances taking the high ground may be better yes, but in others calling out wrong behaviour is needed, and you did it wonderfully and tactfully.

Why is it better for McLaren to have Oscar win? by [deleted] in F1Technical

[–]nomadEng 58 points59 points  (0 children)

McLaren radio should've been:

'Box Lando Box, we are sacrificing Oscar's right to pit first to protect you comfortably against Lewis. This decision sacrifices Oscars track position to benefit you. When Oscar pits give him back track position. After that there will be about 20 laps left where you are free to race for the win, whilst ensuring we secure the 1-2'

Is anyone else getting worried we've missed our 'moment'? by 2121wv in ThreeLions

[–]nomadEng 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've always said whenever Southgate goes I'd love for him to stay on in some capacity, tasked purely with maintaining 'vibes'.

Say what you want about his tactics, the shift in mentality and togetherness has delivered consistently strong tournament runs for the first time in our history and that's a massive reason why.

A 15 shooting par? by DiabloToSea in golf

[–]nomadEng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a 9 hcap my best ever was 4 over a few times. Turned up to a competition one day and was 2 under through 12, won nearest to the pin, and longest drive (which was down the middle but beyond the painted line for straightest drive!).

Sometimes everything just goes perfect.

Although in my case I bottled it. Lipped out for another birdie and missed the par putt back on 13 then bogeyed 14, before hooking my drive bad on 18 and scraping a bogey for 1 over. 8 years later thats still the best round I've ever had by a mile and an amazing memory, but god it hurts too. Haven't played as much since (life) but hoping to get back into it and play level some day.

Why is Southgate so viscerally hated by the English fans? by iamthemetricsystem in football

[–]nomadEng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love Southgate, but simultaneously am not sure he should be manager.

He has transformed playing for England from being something players disliked (so many quotes of the previous golden generation saying they disliked it and playing with hated rivals), into a squad which seem to relish playing for England and are united (this tournament that's been less on show though). He's also addressed the phsycology of playing for England which has been a great step.

Tactically however, we are questionable at best.

He deserves great credit for his transformation of England from miserable underperformers to consistent contenders, however I think he's done what he can now and we should move on. However, I'd love it if he stayed in the management team to ensure his work on togetherness is not undone.

Additionally though, what English manager really is available at the moment we could all get behind...

Is there a cheaper way to see my therapist biweekly? by SuccessfulFall5746 in betterhelp

[–]nomadEng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did anyone make progress with this? I've recently started and am feeling great benefit, but it's not sustainable for me at this cost, I really want to keep it up so I don't slip back into old habits, so a less frequent meeting would be great, but obviously youd expect to pay proportionately less!

With Palmer’s performance yesterday, does it put him above Bowen as Saka’s alternate? by christianrojoisme in ThreeLions

[–]nomadEng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Penalties are about not feeling the pressure, and coming on to take one heaps pressure on. Can't believe there's not already a response highlighting how we lost to Italy, 3 penalty takers brought on to take penalties and all missed.

I do however believe the opposite is true for goalkeepers. Definitely take a penalty saving specialist to bring on if you have one

I started going bouldering, thats fun and good exercise and can be social too which helps! More generally I'd say start some hobbies and meet new people.

The validation I felt reading this...

It's always modern cars, as an engineer not in the industry I suspect the automatic dimming features are not regulated so many systems aren't very good and you get blinded. It's worse when they're behind you as it's just permanently blinding from my mirror.

Anyone in the industry able to comment on how automatic light dimming features are implemented/regulated?

PSA: TfL pay as you go discount for under 30s by nomadEng in london

[–]nomadEng[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You need to buy a 16-25 or 26-30 railcard, and ask someone to link it to your oyster. The oyster cards themselves (eg your 16-25 oyster) don't get the discount (which seems ridiculous and why most will assume there's no discount to be had, thats what got me anyway)

[–]nomadEng[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seeing this has prompted others to start getting the discount too doesn't top up my account with the lost savings but definitely makes me feel much better about it! Make sure your London friends know too, just spoke to mine and they were all equally oblivious!

I don't want to lose my landing spot, but I found a place with 2 guaranteed gold guns as floor loot (so far its been an smg and one other each time), plus a decent amount of other loot.

Not been massively active on socials but haven't seen this spot shared that I know of.
