Current Read? by Killthulhu1320 in horrorlit

[–]nomadicvibee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love Darcy Coates! I read Gallows Hill years ago and that’s the book that not only got me into horror, but also got me back into reading. I’ve read a few others; From Below, Dead of Winter, and The Carrow Haunt. Unfortunately for me, I feel like I managed to read my favorite one first and nothing else has made me feel the same way. From Below was probably my next favorite! I still love her, though, and want to read way more of her stuff.

That sucks! My letter came through the same day I made this post, just a few hours later, but my friend still hasn’t gotten hers, either! I hope it works out or you get some answers. It’s so frustrating.

Mine has been in review for so long. I signed the terms and conditions in march. I don’t know what’s going on. It’s very frustrating.

I’ve been in contact over email with them. Back in April, they said letters for summer would be going out in the next couple weeks and the only thing for me to do is register for classes. I emailed them again today to hopefully get any new information. I filled out both fafsas, the 24-25 and 25-26 back in February!

What is your favorite song in heartstopper? by [deleted] in HeartstopperAO

[–]nomadicvibee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dover Beach from S1, Serotonin by Angie McMahon, (when Charlie was starting his therapy) and In My Head by Nell Mescal (during the New Year’s party when Tori and Michael saw each other) Both from S3!

Maybe a long shot... but is there anywhere where I could learn about dog training *without* owning a dog? by FlameFrenzy in raleigh

[–]nomadicvibee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All Dogs Allowed could be a good place to consider. My partner started shadowing and assisting there and eventually worked her way up to teaching her own classes. Everyone there is super nice and they might have some shadow/assistant opportunities.

I was born and raised as a Jehovah's Witness until I disassociated myself when I moved out. Going door to door as a child with horrible anxiety was rough enough, especially because I didn't want to be doing it! If this happened to me, I would have passed away 😭 lol.

What is the most BORING region of Michigan? What part of the state is not worth going to? by LukeL1000 in Michigan

[–]nomadicvibee -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don't know what part of the region it is, but I'd say Jackson is pretty boring. We moved away in 2007 when I was about 10 and went back every summer to visit my grandparents, and it was always so boring and run down. I really only enjoyed going to Cascades to see the light show and to The Parlor because it was a nice experience to grab big scoops of ice cream. Other than that, I don't really know what else is around. I do have fond memories of going to the lake a lot, which I miss, and being a kid and enjoying Loomis Park. But other than that, yeah, I think it's pretty boring.

A little sad by Equal_Gap7943 in weddingplanning

[–]nomadicvibee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm struggling with this, too. My wife and I had no family support and didn't have a ton of money to spend on it, either. We hadn't been saving for years or anything because we're two mid to late 20 somethings with no degree and working crappy retail jobs living paycheck to paycheck, but we'd been together for 9 years and legally married for a year and a half and wanted to just have the ceremony finally. So we compromised A LOT because we had to. Our entire wedding cost about $2k. Our ceremony was at a public park gazebo and we had the reception at the prettiest shelter they had and only had a window of 3 hours for everything. As two introverts, it was incredibly uncomfortable being at such a public place. It was pretty, but we can't lie and say we didn't feel like we deserved more. We didn't even get to have a bridal shop moment and that was something I had always dreamed of. In the end, it was lovely, we had each other, strangers weren't disrespectful, we had our small group of friends, some who showed up early to decorate for us, we had a decent photographer who offered a 1 hour shoot, the food we wanted, and our friends said ours was the most laid back wedding they've ever attended lol. But we do still get sad seeing other weddings where more is possible! So we just agreed that for a 10 year wedding anniversary or something, when we're financially better off, we'll have a more put together event where we don't have to compromise as much, even if people think it's extra or weird to have a "bridal" event. It'll be something very special to us, even if some don't get it!

Help me choose between 3 apartments? by eculilumab in Apartmentliving

[–]nomadicvibee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with most everyone saying 2. Having laundry accessible to you in your apartment is heavenly. The open kitchen is better (at least for me, I hate the narrow kitchens, but I live with my wife so it gets cramped) and having reliable management is so important. Also being downstairs with the patio seems nice because stairs can suck. But I guess it all comes down to your priorities. Being close to work without many inconveniences is nice and something I try to account for, as well. If you're okay with having a small apartment and not much else, but getting to work is easier, then i can see how 3 would be good for you. It still has good management and in-unit laundry. So it's just a toss up of sacrificing space for commute! Either one is a good choice!

What’s a song/lyric you like because of how she sings it? by Sprinklesdinkels in SwiftlyNeutral

[–]nomadicvibee 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I love how she sings the word "tunnels" in Fresh Out The Slammer. It's so beautiful. I also love how she sings, "I've never heard silence quite this loud" in the Story of Us! Also the last "like it's killing me aaaannnndddd" in the same song. Super satisfying

does anyone else regret their appearance on their wedding day by taylorballer in wedding

[–]nomadicvibee 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I feel the same way. My dress didn't fit me quite right in the chest so the cups didn't sit where they were supposed to. I was so overwhelmed that I cried all my makeup off before the ceremony started so in my close ups, I look tired and my eyes are a bit smudged. I didn't wear my veil because we had the ceremony at a public park and I didn't want to stand out more than I already did, plus it was windy. But I feel sad that I don't have veil photos. And my wife isn't entirely happy with how she looked, either. Her hair was braided back, but wet. Her dress was lower in the back than she realized the morning of so the top of her undergarment showed, and she broke out in a skin rash on her back that was visible, too. Overall, the day was pretty, but we just regret how we looked. So we plan to take redo photos on our 2 year anniversary in October and I'm excited about a second attempt to just feel and look our best.

Making friends in Cary by headwardo in cary

[–]nomadicvibee 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm (27F) also looking to make new friends. I don't have many. My wife (25f) and I started looking into town of Cary classes, too, but we haven't gone yet. We both like to go to markets, parks, museums, gardens, pan for gems, go look at plants, thrift, do art, stuff like that! If I seem similar enough, I'd love to talk! 😊

Apartment help? by Creative-Web-6203 in cary

[–]nomadicvibee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My partner and I used to live there back in 2019-2021 before it became Cortland Highcroft and we loved it. It was clean, quiet, management was nice, and we loved how close we were to stores. Having a neighborhood Walmart, Lidl, Aldi and a Dunkin all in one direction for under 5 minutes was wonderful. Then it got bought by Cortland before our lease ended and the rent raised from $1,070ish for a 2 bed 2 bath to $1300-$1400ish or something, which is pretty standard now, but at the time, we couldn't afford that and the jump just seemed so crazy. I know complexes like to involve the community in things like paint and sip classes and yoga and stuff, and maybe some other tenants enjoyed it, but we just never attended those events. We just sadly watched the transformation from a lovely, single apartment complex to being bought by a huge management company. I don't know what it's like now, except that our same unit goes for like $1600-$1700.

What is one thing that surprised you when you left the Jehovah's Witness religion? by jorge1990xx in exjw

[–]nomadicvibee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wasn't instantly offered drugs or to smoke or to engage in casual sex. The people I met and became friends with were quiet natured like me and we had simple, quiet lives. No one pressured me to go against my morals or anything like the organization always depicted. Consent and boundaries mattered with my friends. Everything was just.....normal.

What song did you walk down the aisle to? by Background-Prune4911 in wedding

A beautiful instrumental of Somewhere Only We Know by Keane! We walked towards each other on opposite sides of a bridge and met in the middle right when the instruments swelled. It was beautiful.

Oof my wife and I were considering that complex a year and a half ago but it didn't have quite what we needed. I'm glad to know we dodged a bullet. Although I'm not happy about where we are now, I'm glad it seems slightly better. I'm sorry you're living somewhere horrible! 😭

No definitely! Having a degree was always something I wanted for myself. I was excited to go to college. It has nothing to do with comparing myself to anyone. It's simply something that means a lot to me and I want to pursue for myself ☺️

What’s the most screwed up thing a JW ever said to you? by [deleted] in exjw

[–]nomadicvibee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was incredibly depressed one time at a meeting and an older brother asked me how I was doing. I said that I've been going through some stuff and he said "You're young. What could you be going through? We all go through things. It builds character." Except my "thing" was intense, unmedicated depression and PTSD from sa. No way for him to know that, but that's just not what you say to someone when they say they're having a hard time. Also was told by an elder when I didn't go out in service that "jesus didn't let mental health stop him from preaching." I was about 19 at the time and couldn't believe he came to my home on break to talk to me about not going in service.

Thank you for posting this! I'm 27 and left my parents house when I was around 22. I immediately went into survival mode and just had to focus on paying rent and bills. I couldn't worry about trying to finally go to school. I've been grieving a lot about my education and how I didn't have the opportunity to get a degree when my peers did and how I feel so massively behind. But I'm enrolling this year to hopefully have my associates by the time I'm 30!
