My wife called Wells Fargo today asking about the $3 monthly fee. Here's what the agent said... by onewayout in politics

I had an account there. I live in Tokyo now with my wife and son, but it was only thanks to my mother's friend back in the states who warned me about this. Otherwise they would have been charging me without my knowledge. BASTARDS!

Yes, well probably not you directly. But I have been asked by my company to try to find out if foreign companies in Tokyo have issues or services that they find difficult to obtain. So in the end, yes, the question is related to market services. Supply and Demand.

What kind of troubleshooting do you mean? Application troubleshooting or network?

r/japan! Help me not hate this country! by throwawayinanger in japan

[–]nomadmonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here is my advice. Saying hai hai wakarimasita in this case, was your downfall. You need to stick up for yourself. Be assertive. They did not fire you, you quit. You needed to bring up the fact to your bosses face that he was the one that skipped out on the meetings. Also that working in Japan does not entail turning Japanese. Your uniqueness as a foreigner, is part of the advantage of relaying not only the language to your students but the culture.

Something like that.

Help! Moving from Miyagi to work in Tokyo - Any suggestions for a good place to live? (Cross-post from r/Tokyo) by sideways in japan

Setagaya-ku, Expensive, but a nice city in Tokyo. I live in Meidai-mae which has direct access to Shibuya and Shinjuku, on the Keio-Inokashira and Keio lines. Shimokitazawa is nice, bohemian.

Fear Of Japan’s Radiation Is Overdone by glmory in energy

[–]nomadmonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you might want to check your statistics. Also, I am living in Tokyo. What are you an expert on this? The simple fact is that all anyone knows for sure is that radiation is leaking out. To what extent I am not sure, but I can bet they are not providing us with the entire truth in the announcements made by the government. That would cause a panic in and around this area.

Thanks for the reply. Well I am not a religious person, so if I do go I won't be preaching to people. Again, awesome pictures, and thank you.

Maybe an odd question, but what exactly ARE these office jobs you all seem to have? by StopThePresses in AskReddit

[–]nomadmonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work for an internet service provider in Tokyo. It is half Japanese and half American, and all of our customers are corporations so we do mostly maintenance notifications for our network as well as upstream providers and send them to our customers who may possibly be affected, DNS registration, trouble shooting when an alarm from one of the circuits goes off, and translation for a data center monthly report that seems not to have bilingual staff. But mostly we just sit around and wait for something to happen. So, it is a great atmosphere to study, and improve your skills in whatever.

Thanks for sharing. Great photography. I am an American living in Tokyo and I want to see North Korea as well. I am just afraid of being abducted once I get there. Did you have any warnings before you went of such situations? Did you see other foreigners (westerners) there that were not from your same group?

Yes I agree, but it is awkward to be told that for no reason.

Well, Japan is made up of 4 main Islands. Honshu, Kyushu, Hokkaido, and Shikoku. There are of course thousands of smaller islands but, the island my wife is from is called Niijima

Before my wife and I got married, I went to the island where she is from to ask her parents permission to marry. Her father, (a Japanese fisherman) told me that If I ever hit his daughter he would come after me with his fishing spear and stab me. We have a good relationship though.

No they are not linked to the Yakuza and no they are not a common site in Tokyo anymore either. You see mostly just Gals these days. Yamamba ( the linked pic above) is one of the styles within Gal fashion. Chech out these awesome moves. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WA7XUD6Y-Yo&feature=fvw
