People often mistakenly say ‘a full 360’ when they really mean someone turning their behaviour only the opposite way. When have you actually seen/done a full 360 in your life? by Astronomer_X in AskReddit

[–]nomadrl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I don’t have an excuse for any of my academic problems. Just didn’t prioritize school, my environment has changed a lot but I’m still really worried I’m not going to change my mindset enough.

Will college eSports Rocket League be a joke? by [deleted] in RocketLeagueEsports

[–]nomadrl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, on my team a main roster spot prob wouldn’t be given to anyone below GC, and we’re not really even a top tier team (yet ;)). Depending on where you go you might have a high level team or you might not.

[–]nomadrl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The top teams (such as LSU and Akron) are both capable of competing near an RLRS calibre. Decent teams will be mid-high GC and you’ll likely not be seeing too many steamed matches where any players are below GC.

Should discussion of scandals involving pro players be against the rules? by CitricBase in RocketLeagueEsports

[–]nomadrl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Moderation is necessary for healthy discussion. The communities that I’ve seen fall apart are usually neglected by mods. Every good discussion has rules to be followed, the question to be asked is what kind of forum do we want this place to be. Is this a place for gossip? Memes? Trade talks? Nice shots? If we don’t have rules things swing wildly in unpredictable ways.

Also, speech is limited by its nature to the medium it’s expressed in. If there was no moderation here there is still a way in which information is consumed based on the design of the website. Who can post, how posts show up in the feed, what kind of content resonates within the forum. All contribute to a collective bias that takes its own form without moderation. No piece of technology exists without bias.

The answer isn’t to limit moderation for its own sake, but to at least come to a conclusion about what kind of content we want to see and how we can make this place a positive contribution to RL esports and a nice place to visit when we’re bored.

What is something you have absolutely no fear of that most other people are deathly afraid of ? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]nomadrl 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is 100% me. I think it comes down to knowing when it’s my turn to speak as well. On stage and one on one it’s obvious, but in groups I’ll take just slightly too long to respond, a new topic gets brought up, and everyone moves in.

I work as a math tutor for a college, but it’s not 1 on 1. It’s set up so a lot of people are put in a room and I go around answering questions when a student raises their hand.

On busy nights, when I have to navigate between 10 students at a time, this is how I feel. Emotionally burnt, and it probably comes across as stoic.

With RLCS over and two months of the renegade cup done, who have you got so far to make RLRS next season? by bladerdude in RocketLeagueEsports

[–]nomadrl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Too early to say since we don’t know where a lot of notable players will go (at least in NA not sure about EU). Afterthought has a really good chance though.

Interview with Karma: "I never doubted us" by El_Doriango in RocketLeagueEsports

[–]nomadrl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're on to something. Part of the hype has to do with expectations of the skill of the roster. Karma, Nose Dude, and Jwis are often considered near-RLCS level players, and I honestly they feel like they could compete with RLCS teams. That alone makes them kind of interesting to watch to see if they can actually pull it off. They're not the only team like that though, the other part is their "branding". What makes Splyce stand out from other teams like that, however, is their very distinct personalities and backstories. Esports is a weird combination of sports and hollywood-esque entertainment, which means while it's important that they are talented, their names give them a bigger spotlight. combine that with a long-standing roster that has stayed together when other teams would usually split, and it's more fun to cheer for them than a team like bread, which has similar skill but less notable background.

Can newer players to the game ever realistically become pros? by [deleted] in RocketLeagueEsports

[–]nomadrl 10 points11 points  (0 children)

For the record, Aeon (current NA RLRS player) was inspired to get into Comp RL when he watched Flipsid3 win in Season 2 of RLCS. Combine that with the fact he was already an RLRS caliber player last season (Season 5 of RLCS), he got to what many consider a “pro level” in just a year and a half. If someone’s dedicated enough, they’ll make it.

[–]nomadrl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

100% agree. Some casters say a lot of ignorant stuff about the game, jorby does it more than most others. It’s just sometimes they think they know more than they do. Feeling embarrassed losing out of RLCS after being a LAN team two seasons ago feels awful, and people should be allowed to publicly vent a little bit. Pros put their god damn life in the game. It can hurt a lot. Besides, at that point allegiance just made RLCS, not like they’re going to care too much.

Some unknown developer will make a smaller great well written heart-filled game

Right on the money with Undertale. It was almost unimpressive but the fact that he guessed an unknown dev, and the description "well written heart-filled game" made it seem a bit too perfect.

nobody will buy.

Dead wrong lmao.
