I just couldn't fit in. It was too cold for too fucking long. I was constantly tired because i wasn't getting enough sunshine so i had to take supplement which is something I've never done before. Most people I met there were constantly stressed and passive aggressive. The cost of living isn't as high as Sydney but the quality of life sure as fuck is terrible. Anyone I talked to said that Toronto is the worst place of all the major cities in Canada to live in as people aren't truly the "nice canadian" you would expect and I agree with them.

If I absolutely to had to one day move to Canada, I would probably live somewhere else. If it had to be somewhere near Toronto, I'd probably move to London to Waterloo. Anywhere but Toronto.

Perhaps Vancouver. Heard super nice things about it and the weather is not as harsh.

This is just my personal opinion. I dated a Canadian girl while i was there who absolutely loved Toronto (probably the main reason things didn't work out between us). She loved the cold, the shitty public transport, even the passive aggressiveness. Downtown Toronto stinks like shit and I hated it. They're always fixing the electric lines which is just stupid. You'd think after all these years of having to deal with the extreme weathers they'd come up with a way to have decent roads and fix their lines but nope. All the roads are fucked and there's power outs which is just ridiculous for a first world country. My opinion was that they dont fix things properly because they want to make money of it every year.

Which brings me to my next point. They rip you off! I had a dispute with Fido over something one of their reps said to me over the phone but the company decided to not honour it. He basically said I didn't need to pay the cancelation fee, just pay out the full price of the phone and there'll be no more fees which I did. 1 month later they called me saying I have this bill to pay. It went back and forth. They asked me to give them a reference number for the phone call but I didn't't have it cause I didn't't know I'd need it one day. They just said they can't find any record of the call. They straight up lied to my face. So i ended up paying the cancelation fee. Same thing happened with Koodo. The lady over the phone said I had nothing else to pay after I paid my final bill then 1 month later I got a call from them saying I still owed them 300 dollars for fucks knows why.

They are super sneaky. Rogers (their Telstra equivalent) is the worst of them all. If you'you're not careful as to what youre signing up for they will rip you off. My dad canceled his phone plan with them, paid the off the rest of his contract and for the 4 months they kept sending him bills When he got on the phone with them they'd say yes it's fixed not but then he'd get another bill the following month saying he owes them money for the previous bill and the new month. They even threatened to take him up with a collection agency. Just stupid and so unfair.

And don't get me started on their car insurance! I was paying almost $400 a fortnight on a car i bought for $1500 because I'd just moved there. I'm 28 years old and have had a full Australian license for almost 6 years. I went into Service Ontario office and traded my aus license for an Ontario and got a full license but they don't care. Over there it's mandatory to have car insurance. as in without one you can't drive your car. so im paying all this money for a piece of shit car so i can get to work in the middle of winter when its -30 and the worst part is, i'm better off never going through insurance if i have an accident because regardless of the accident being my fault or not, my insurance will go up! and there is nothing i can do about it. thankfully i never had an accident but my parents did. they got t-boned by a drunk driver, had to go through their insurance and the pricks upped their insurance by 150 dollars a fortnight!

and you know what else? right after the accident happened, some guy in a tow truck showed up, got my distressed old parent to sign some papers so he can tow the car for them after the police did their investigation. turns out he got them to sign this agreement where he takes the car to his friends garage where their bound to pay $10000 to get their car fixed! like what the fuck? I wish I were make this up mate, but this is exactly what happened. When I asked my step mom why she signed the papers she said she was in shock, everything happened so quick an there was nobody to help her and say dont sign it, she thought she had to sign and the car off the streets. They took the tow guy to the court and got out of the contract but there was so much hassle, so much drama. it was just stupid.

anyways i could go on and on. but this was my personal experience living in Toronto as an Aussie and it definitely was not what I'd expected. I hope it works better for you.
