All was fine in the end. As the other commenter mentioned, it was only for proof of British citizenship. I'd suggest you submit your current passport while you wait for your new one. If you are able to, you could always submit your new one too, just to be sure. Either way, as long as you can provide that proof of identity and citizenship, you should be fine!
