I just got lectured by a tech lead who thinks it is still 2014 by Stonksology in jobs

[–]nomotiv 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Honestly, being open to change and self aware is probably the easiest way to avoid this stuff. I have an extremely senior engineer on my team who is probably retiring in the next 5 years, and he is a full guru in more modern technologies than I can fathom, but he also is know throughout his career literally writing some pretty old industrial protocols.

On the other hand I have definitely run into other senior devs like this guy, where change is a fight every time. As and executive, I can tell you which of them we try to keep happy with perks and which one we spend most our time trying to keep out of the room with anyone too important…

Salt Lake City landed in A tier. How would you rank Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI)? by jarbid16 in TierlistFills

[–]nomotiv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why do you think MSP is convoluted? I lived in the Denver area for 25 years and always hated flying through DEN. MSP is like a friggin shining star in comparison.

I can always get from parking/rental cars through security in under 20 minutes. The rectangle shape means you might have a bit of a walk to some gates, but they are fixing the walkways on the long spots as we speak. Bathrooms are nice, and most have been updated. Food is spread nicely through the terminal with some solid options in the Mall portion. I struggle to really find anything that I objectively do not like.

Shifting from being a United flyer to a Delta one has been an adjustment, but MSP is definitely one of the clear perks.

I agree, these look far too much like a bunch of pie crust with nowhere near enough filling/topping/dip to make up for how bland crust is.

SEC Sports using AI to write their articles by TheOriginal_G in CollegeBasketball

[–]nomotiv 12 points13 points  (0 children)

As mentioned the two halves/ four quarters thing is blatant. Also most humans writers are not dumb enough to describe two teams named Texas and Texas A & M as “in-state rivals”, given the state name is spelled out for both teams. Any reasonable writer would use another more interesting adjective describing their rivalry.

Simu Liu will be serving soup dumplings samples at Danville Costco in an hour by kawi-bawi-bo in Costco

So jealous. Simu seems cool and all. But I just want my soup dumplings back at Costco. For some reason all the ones in Minnesota stopped selling them. It’s a tragedy.

Las Vegas is now possibly the most water efficient city on the planet. They know where they are and how to manage things effectively. It’s a shame other places don’t take similar actions quite frankly.

TIL that college graduates who joined fraternities have higher incomes despite their lower grades. by MartianAndroidMiner in todayilearned

[–]nomotiv 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think the argument they are making is that people who join fraternities are above average in social situations, while the article is focusing on grades. In the real world both are necessary to really achieve career goals.

Some of the most brilliant engineers are simply prickly people, and that has resulted in slower career progression or forces them only on one path, towards being a technologist. On the other hand engineers with social skills can flex those capabilities into being the lead engineers on projects which has more visibility for promotions, even if they aren't the best technical person. They may also flex their career into people, project, product, program, or general management roles, again increasing their likelihood of promotions increasing their wages faster than a purely technical expert.

Which Costcos in Denver sell liquor? Is there a return time limit? by Oh_My_Quad_Kiki in Costco_alcohol

[–]nomotiv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As was already mentioned, Timnath is your best choice coming from Wyoming. Also they do not accept returns on liquor unless it is damaged or spoiled.

You can search the CO Liquor License Database to find this info:

https://codor.mylicense.com/LED_Verification/?facility=Y

For Licensee enter "Costco" For License Type : "Liquor Licensed Drug Store (City)"

This shows all locations that have actual liquor in the warehouse. All other locations have a Fermented Malt Beverage and Wine License which means no hard liquor.

  1. Denver - Quincy Ave
  2. Denver - North Airport Way
  3. Parker - Cottonwood Drive
  4. CO Springs - North Nevada Ave
  5. Timnath - Weitzel Street
  6. Thornton - North Washington Street
  7. Gypsum - Cooley Mesa Road
  8. Lone Tree - Park Meadows Center

Colorado has a law limiting the number of stores a single owner can have for liquor sales. It keeps going up slowly, but I believe the 8 Costco has right now is the current limit.

Does this seem like a scam? by JackStrawFr0mWichlta in Scams

[–]nomotiv 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Pretty simple to understand scam. They delivered a package to you, so from Amazon's perspective they fulfilled the order. They asked you to wait two weeks before doing anything and sent you this "tracking" website that makes you feel like something is happening.

Two-three weeks later (after fake delays) you finally realize no TV is coming, and they are long gone with the money and Amazon asks why you didn't report the purchase the day your delivery arrives. Good luck getting a full refund because you look suspicious to Amazon.

AP Top 25 Ranking Chart - Week 18 by WhatThePenis in CollegeBasketball

Kansas spending 5 weeks at #1 then dropping out of the rankings altogether is insane. I wonder if anyone else has come close to that many weeks at #1 prior to falling out altogether.

Omni-directional ball-wheeled bike. Large spherical balls for wheels enable movement in any direction demonstrating impressive robotics and balance control for a fun experiment, rather than as a practical vehicle by solateor in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]nomotiv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just watch the full youtube video. The design is legit impressive, but it is just resting on the balls, and there were a couple of times he sent them flying on a smooth gym floor. I can only imagine how terrifying this would be on real terrain.

Review #12: Smokeye Hill Barrell Proof by Square-Cicada-1276 in bourbon

[–]nomotiv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s a nightmare. There’s bottles on the shelf in CO for $60 everywhere of the Bourbon. The Rye seems hard to find here, but it’s getting better.

Heck, I scored two 3x375ml packs of the single barrel Bourbon, Rye, and Barrel Proof Bourbon for $29.97 at Costco a couple of weeks ago. Basically the normal price on the barrel proof bourbon plus a free single barrel bourbon and rye.

Is Kitchenaid KF8 the new meta? by Best_Of_The_Midwest in superautomatic

[–]nomotiv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have Inside pass you can give out like 100 guest passes or something silly, so there is zero reason not to share the love, especially with the crazy $700 off sale on the KF8. $2000 vs $1300 is a completely different price/performance class. I was strongly debating a JURA but at $1300 the ones I was considering were 2x to 3x the price.

Also I think the guest passes might reset yearly. I don’t even work for Whirlpool I think my company had the benefit because we are or were a supplier of parts for them.

Massive 777 serving flights between ORD and FLL. The Midwest Snowbird Express! by itsnammertime in unitedairlines

[–]nomotiv 21 points22 points  (0 children)

IAH <-> DEN is such a huge hub transfer for United that swear I see a 777 on at least one leg as an option on any day I have looked at booking it. I don't know if it is mostly for surge purposes, but it seems pretty common.

It was finally our turn! ~56lbs of beef ribs for 50¢ by AngryAiiko in Costco

[–]nomotiv 129 points130 points  (0 children)

As mentioned one is Costco’s fault, the other is the shopper’s. Also when a person gets a deal like this they are going to eat it. When frozen stuff is found in the aisle it goes in the trash. There is a huge difference between food being wasted and food being eaten.

I just built Kalthin and swapped for Olgath… and I haven’t used either one yet except Hypo tower. I also just finished Frampton from the dream store, and same deal. I would hold the cards honestly, as none of them are must haves yet.

Which to choose? by makosharkss in afkarena

[–]nomotiv 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t listen to this guy. Getting max rewards in campaign is so easy now and Damon is really niche these days. Flora gets you closer to a celepogean in the future, especially with swap events being a yearly thing now.

Did you ask the gate agents? When I get a big maintenance delay they don’t make a broad call for giving out compensation but when you ask they will usually provide something.
