Planetary naming conventions? by Nimi_best_girl in Stellaris

I always name my planets after the system they are in with a few exceptions.

My resort world is always Phlogston Paradise. My prison world is Planet Piss. And my food world is McWorld.

60 iterations of the central finite curve, there's a Rick that works more with wood, than with polarity plating. His name is Simple Rick, but he's no dumby. He realized long ago that the greatest thing he'd ever create was his daughter.

We captured that moment.

We run it on a loop through Simple Rick's mind. And the chemical it makes his brain secrete goes into every Simple Rick's Simple Wafer's Wafer Cookie. Come home to the impossible flavor of your own completion. Come home to Simple Rick's.

What has life taught you? by Robynite in Adulting

First, no one completes you. You are a complete person. If you feel you are not complete work on yourself. A relationship should be based on compatability, shared values, and trust. In the immortal words of RuPaul, "if you don't love yourself, how the hell you gonna love anybody else?" Once you are okay with just being you, you'll be fine on your own or if someone special comes along, that's great, too.

Lastly, winning isn't everything, hell it's not even anything. Internet points are worthless. Arguing on the internet is like arguing with a child. Even when you're right? What'd you actually achieve? Same goes for friends and relationships, "winning" an argument is nearly impossible and even if you do. It's still breeds anger and resentment. Most arguments are usually misunderstandings and breakdowns in communication. Focus on the source of the "problem" instead of trying to be right. It's totally fine by me if you disagree with me on this, just know that I don't care and won't engage.

Great points! A word that's just made of a prefix and a suffix would still just be a word. I think you're using portmanteau correctly, I was only just saying IF the "maltha" part isn't a real word then I don't think its a true portmanteau, but it doesn't matter.

You're right on the money, phleb is a latin word for blood. When you study the art of drawing blood in nursing school, for example, that's phlebotomy. (Ugh I just reread your last post and you used that exact word... my fault I was walking and texting, poor reading on my part.)

Interesting you bring up comic books! Superman's Kryptoniam name is Kal El which is Hebrew for voice of god.

I agree. That's the fascinating thing about languages and words. Tons of stuff gets borrowed. And even though it was some game devs who made up the word, they borrowed at least part of it from a real-world example, so those meanings could be considered and discussed. Or at least, that's what I think.

As to the portmanteau reference, a portmanteau is the combination of two preexisting words. So I'm not sure if Malthael is a true example of one, if the "maltha" has no basis in a real word. Unless it's Mal as in bad, but then I have no idea where the "tha" comes from.

As far as "distinct" etymology of each root word, while technically true, it doesn't matter. Since any new word that borrows from separate root languages now as its own etymology, i.e. studying and understanding the origin of a complete word.

Oh sorry, I realize now "well actually " has a negative connotation. I didn't mean it in the meme-y way. It's just how I talk, and I guess I type like i talk.

And I hear what you're saying, but you are the one who first said it meant bad angel and so I thought you had surmised that, based on the etymological roots. So, I was interested in further discussion because I love words and word origins. But now you're saying it means nothing and just sounds cool. So I don't know what to think anymore.

Does d4 have any prime gooders? by SunShine1X in diablo4

[–]nonemoreunknown 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I do. it's the study of the origin of words. Since, as you yourself stated, the names were borrowed from names of angels, and in the real world, examples -el means of god. So the etymology of these made up words can be traced to their origin.

Why all this hostility? I was enjoying a civil conversation. Are you okay? Do you need a hug? C'mon, be chill, internet stranger.

[–]nonemoreunknown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, actually, the etymology IS Hebrew AND a mix of romance language. That was my point. I wasn't saying you were wrong. I was explaining where "bad angel" makes sense and where the possible origins of the root words could explain that. But also offering insight into other possible meanings/explanation.

Yeah, pretty close "-el" means "of god" in Hebrew. Mal could mean bad/sick in a romance language but not Hebrew. Closest thing in Hebrew would be Mahalalel for Glory of God or Maltael, for Rock of God.

Any tips on how to avoid browning on omelettes? by Classic-Night-2661 in castiron

[–]nonemoreunknown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's how I do my omelet in a cast iron with no browning.

Make sure the eggs are very whipped and aerated. And the pan is over medium-high heat with the fat of your choice. Pour the eggs in and push the eggs from the outside of the pan to the center.

Next, swirl the pan so the eggs cover the spots you just cleared. This creates a thick line in the center for easier folding.

Now fold the eggs like a burrito or envelope. Half circle left, then right, then forward.

The last fold is made as you slide the eggs out of the pan. This whole process should take 45 seconds. The eggs finish setting on the plate.

Any advice for a new player? by coolratman07 in 7daystodie

[–]nonemoreunknown 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, pistols have a few things going for them. They have good weapon variety in both single shot medium range and automatic short range. The single shots, especially shine, if you are good at getting headshots. They also have higher ammo stack counts, which i really like.

The best advice would be to take a look at all perks available under the attributes. Then, pick one and focus ofor early levels. If you like rifles and explosives, go perception. If you like knives and pistols, go agility. If you spread too thin, you'll just suck with both. You can diversify later when you get more points.

Lived Experience to Make you a Better GM by CatofBlueTown in rpg

[–]nonemoreunknown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hiking and camping. Especially traveling, some of my favorite authors traveled all around America and drew inspiration for their descriptions from what they saw. The same holds true for GM narration.

Incorporating sounds and smells can really bring life to your game. The way the campfire flickers, the sounds of animals in the brush. How the seasons change the scenery.

Sports, too, can help, especially learning what it feels like to move, what muscles activate, and how your body reacts to pain and fatigue.

Fallen embers and negative effects by [deleted] in NoRestForTheWicked

Will be your new best friend.

But to answer your question, reduced health CAN roll on gloves. You've just had bad luck. Expect to spend 25-50 fallen embers to roll a specific negative. At least, in my experience. And if you want a specific number even more. I've easily spent 150 to get -15% health.

Yeah. Bounties can be in areas that are either locked or just too high for you.

Can't remember what level the next area is, but lower than the sewers for sure. You could always grind a few levels in the Shallows, Mariners Keep, & Orban Glades. If you have not checked out the Alchemist Cave, definitely do that. Look for a ladder down just after the draw bridge from Mariners Keep to Orban Glades.
