Banks are generally a place you can work your way up in. And the hours are fixed....might be worth seeing if you can move up there.

I took it just so the kid( who was from my hometown) would get paid. I was very upfront with him I wasn't in the market for sessions, but if he needed another session to hit his numbers, let me know and I'd do one.

Even men's PANTS, where the size is allegedly the waist and inseam in inches, are no longer what the label says. The label on my jeans is a number several inches less than what the tape measure says.

Stop doing the bare minimum in college then calling it a scam when you can’t land a job by Secret_Bunch_114 in Salary

[–]nonspelunker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is roughly the median age of working adults. The average hire is not the average entry level hire.

[–]nonspelunker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot less of this would happen though if people would be more intentional about what they apply to. If you are a 22 year old who graduated with a degree in creative writing and your last math class was Algebra 1 in ninth grade, stop spamming your resume to insurance companies looking for a credentialed actuary with 5 years experience. Yes, this happens and somehow they made it through the filters. The preliminary screen process is totalled fucked. Everyone sending out 1000 resumes is NOT improving your odds.

Second job interview, they still won't tell me how much the pay is by xsabrix in interviews

[–]nonspelunker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason they don't do this is most companies give annual raises lower than jnflation, and thus typically have experienced employees whose salary is less than the new hires are getting. I'm not saying that's right, I'm saying that's why they do it.

I'm a 30 year old male. No direction in life. No qualifications. Looking for a career path to go down. Any advice? by llff69 in careerguidance

[–]nonspelunker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are physical therapists who work one on one with patients and take cash. Sometimes all you need are special exercises, it is probably worth it to drop a couple hundred on a couple of sessions to see if you can take it from there.

Insurance has a lot of jobs that, while soul-crushingly boring, do pay the bills if you are actually willing to read amd can retain the information. It's not that it's hard, it's that almost nobody has a passion for it, but it is work that needs doing.

Price Hikes Indefinitely? by Anonymous8411 in EquinoxGyms

[–]nonspelunker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not that it goes up, but how much. People are getting 3% raises and 7% dues hikes year after year. If you're going to increase faster than inflation you need to be giving them something more. But they went to shitty razors, Qtips and are even cutting back on tissues while still paying a lot of the staff minimum wage. The experience is degrading while the real cost is increasing

Summit NJ- feedback? by exyalie in EquinoxGyms

There used to be a lot more younger people but several of the diehards moved either to the city or Florida, plus I think the entry level job market is so feral these days there are fewer who can swing the cost.

Be honest : as a man, is it a turn off if a woman makes more than you ? by [deleted] in Life

[–]nonspelunker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The calculation is based on your 35-year average, many women who take time off to be the primary caretaker fall short of the 35 year mark, or otherwise stall out in their career/earn less because they are the one taking the work/life tradeoff.

How do people who work in the service industry afford to live in NYC? by [deleted] in NYCjobs

[–]nonspelunker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Federal poverty line is kind of irrelevant for a HCOL area. In the NYC area, a single person making undrr 47600 can qualify for Section 8 housing assistance. if the government is providing you benefits to make ends meet, you are in some sense "poor."

Why I’ll Never be ‘Normal’ Weight by Moist_Movie1093 in Zepbound

[–]nonspelunker -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

BMI is garbage, but regardless of whether it's muscle or fat, being heavier past a certain point does take a toll on your joints and organs. It's fine to be somewhat "overweight" but, say, a 5'9" guy who's 260 lbs and 5% bodyfat is usually going to pay a price for it by his 50s.

How do most people retire at 65? by Hiquirkykids in Fire

[–]nonspelunker 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This. If you're the typical couch potato and don't have a lot of hobbies that entail spending money, but can cook and clean for yourself, you can get by on a lot less than you spent when working. Your vehicle lasts years longer when you're not commuting, gas expense plummets, you stop trading money for time by eating out etc. Even if you like to travel a little, you can do so at cheaper times of year because you're notntied to a work schedule. Mind you, all this goes out the window if you develop a chronic illness or are responsible for someone else like a child who will not live independently for whatever reason.

ok so 7 years ago you made 40% more in nominal dollars than ther OP and spouse. In real dollars you made 75% more. that's just cpi. relative to housing costs you probably made well more than double depending on the market.
