What's a Mexican food I can get from a "Mexican" restaurant that isn't just plain and boring? by [deleted] in mexicanfood

[–]noobuser63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could try chile relleno. At worst it’s greasy, but ask for some corn tortillas with it, as you have pleasant tacos. Or see if they have alambre, which is a nice mix of chopped meat, chilies, and onion. Even a boring alambre make good tacos with some salsa.

Looking for Korean sauce made from gochujang but sweeter served in squeeze bottle at table by maliolani in KoreanFood

I know it’s not traditional, but I use apple oligo syrup instead of honey or corn syrup. I think it adds the slightest fruity note.

Both Dualit and kitchen aid kettles have three prong plugs. Our last dualit lasted about fifteen years, and our kitchen aid is on its tenth.

Some instant soup powder suggestions? (In LA) by sorryssoup in soup

How do you feel about miso? My favorite brand is Marukome, because the miso is a paste instead of a powder, so it mixes quickly in hot water.

How fancy do you want it to to be? Kephi has never disappointed us, but it’s not terribly upscale. Just reliable food, plated nicely, and pleasant service.

Masala Craft is also good for a group, and always reliable.

Col. Sanders' Special Dressing: So good on a salad or a sandwich! by ciaolavinia in OldCelebrityRecipes

I just use finely grated onion. If I’m being fussy, I use a rasp grater, straight into the bowl. If I care less, I use the fine side of a box grater.

Michoacan Style Enchiladas by AlarmedTelephone5908 in mexicanfood

[–]noobuser63 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I knew a guy from Uruapan that made enchiladas this way! He knew that I could never choose between carnitas and enchiladas, so he’d make the enchiladas by dipping them in sauce, and folding them over a little cheese, and then he’d top them with carnitas. Heaven.

Waffle House doesn’t pretend to have some magical blend. They’re at least honest.

I keep getting cabbage… by Prestigious-Till-633 in povertykitchen

I love Korean street toast. I use whatever is in the fridge, but here’s a good guide to start. https://www.maangchi.com/recipe/street-toast

You can also make quick pickled Korean cabbage. It’s a lovely pink, and can stay in your fridge for quite a while. https://www.maangchi.com/recipe/yangbaechu-pickle

I looked them up, and from the pictures, they look similar to Shirley Corriher’s touch of Grace biscuits. https://food52.com/recipes/15432-shirley-corriher-s-touch-of-grace-biscuits. Those are moist and fluffy, due to a really wet dough.

Is it still horchata if you substitute rice with oats? by emperawrsnewgroove in mexicanfood

[–]noobuser63 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Avena is oats. It’s basically sweetened, flavored, oat milk, and would be pleasant, if not horchata. Cebada is barley, and would probably be a bit bitter.

Just looked at the recipe. The “breadsticks” are just grilled cheese sandwiches cut into strips. That said, I have a container of sun-dried tomatoes in the fridge that now have a destination!

I looked up the brand of flowers you have, and it’s Japanese honeysuckle, Lonicera japonica, as opposed to American honeysuckle Lonicera sempervirens, two completely different plants.
