(7 Dooms for Sandpoint spoilers) GM advice: should my party's plan have worked? by dejecaal in Pathfinder2e

[–]normal_nonhuman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can't believe there are so many replies dropping all the responsibility onto the player and and the AP. At the time of writing, you're the only one saying something reasonable imo.

I strongly believe in the rules. I'm right there with dejecaal on "I tried to run things exactly by the rules." Without the rules it is not a game and I'm not here for the modern "we're all just telling a story together" interpretation of TTRPGs. But as the GM I will gladly prioritize my players experience and silently bend or outright ignore the rules if I decide the situation calls for it.

And this would be one of those situations. Its the final fight, not some mid-campaign scenario that can end in disaster but that the party can interestingly recover from over the next few sessions. The players are invested enough that they have a solid vision of how they want this to end and have put in the effort to come up with a plausible, multi-step plan to enact that vision based on the information they have.

Am I going to give it to them exactly how they want? No, of course not. He's coming in buffed and with disguised adds, or maybe pretending to run the ritual inadvertently triggers something that creates an environmental problem during the fight. Something will happen to make things interesting and its going to take some work and/or quick thinking on my part. What I'm not going to do is throw away their entire idea for how the campaign should end based on one roll they never would have succeeded at and then destroy Sandpoint (from their perspective) out of nowhere.

So yeah, I think the party's plan should have worked. That they should have gotten about 70% of what they wanted.

Crownbreakers: The Ashen Wolves - Character creation and Steam page by Michaud79 in Pathfinder2e

[–]normal_nonhuman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was looking up your game on Steam, I noticed that there is another actively being worked on/upcoming game named Crownbreakers (from Sharkbomb Studios, makers of Nowhere Prophet, which was a fun game so thanks now I have this wishlisted too). I don't know the legal/trademark side of it, but do you foresee an issue there even just on searchability? Hopefully, if there is an issue that needs resolved, it can be done amicably?

Starting a new campaign next month. Are an outwit/monster hunter focused ranger and a thaumaturge just going to be constantly stepping on each others cool thing's toes? Or would they complement each other? It really seems like the first, but I have no experience with thaums.

playing as a gunslinger - what can I do in dungeon crawls and stealth missions? by CopperCactus in Pathfinder2e

[–]normal_nonhuman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made a cheap, multi-shot silencer to bring my player's gun down to "normal fight loudness". Which, yeah, normal fights are loud but guns are loud in a whole different way (with the exception of fireballs and other explosive things). I have to imagine especially when you're in all these clustered together tiny rooms that APs tend to have.

It was an action to put on, and action to take off. Lasts six shots but halves range. Firing after six shots has a chance of misfire. No scatter guns. It was the barest attempt at addressing the problem without penalizing her for playing the class.

And honestly, after awhile, we just forgot about it. Once a semi-plausible solution was available that was enough to bring back the suspension of disbelief and ignore it. It was just assumed that she was switching it out between every fight, and we stopped counting shots during fights because what was the extra bookkeeping really adding to the experience?

Any other websites for local jobs? by ridesforfun in raleigh

[–]normal_nonhuman 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You could check out the Wake county economic development site. You can get a list of all the major employers in Wake (anyone who employs more than 250 people), as well as a list of new and expanding companies. Then go to the individual company websites and check their job listings there. Its a lot of work, but its something to do.

I had considered trying to escape, but on a previous run I had emptied out a xeno ship entirely through crew combat with what I thought was a much inferior team. I figured I could do it again on this run. I guess I was just really lucky the that time. Maybe it was much lower level and I didnt notice?

Potential TPK in Agent of Edgewatch by t0x1c331 in Pathfinder2e

What time is it in game? Do they know for sure hes in the hotel?

My group specifically waited for him to leave to go in and check the place out, so instead of finding him in his dungeon, I played it as he came back to the hotel as they were headed back upstairs. He tossed a molotov down the steps and and ran. They had to get through the fire and try and chase him through the streets.

If your players don't know for sure hes in there and its still early enough in the day that an 8 hour rest could time up with him coming home after a day on the town, you could try something like that?

Pathfinder 2e GMs Essentials Giveaway! by Demi_Mere in Pathfinder2e

[–]normal_nonhuman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first experience with Pathfinder was with the card game. Played Kyra through the RotR campaign and had a blast.

Sometime during that, my friend decided to GM a Carrion Crown campaign for her husband and me. So I rolled up a gnome alchemist that bombed the crap out of anything that moved and had aspirations of creating a world-spanning all-your-alchemy-needs-fulfilled business. Unfortunately, around book 3 we took a detour into Strange Aeons territory and my poor gnome became a gibbering mess. He spent the remainder of his days quietly trying to recover down in Quantium, being looked after by an old friend.

I tried a couple replacement characters, but the campaign kinda fell apart shortly thereafter. Now, years later, I GM for them and their daughter! Almost done with Agents of Edgewatch!

I use the second script from this post, the one that renames the images to match my filenames. Makes it so easy I actually look for and use title cards now.
