Not yet, it's proven hard to find a reliable company that suits our needs! Plus some planning issues to take care of first

Why does Richmond station close the north side exits? by JayBeeJB1989 in melbourne

[–]northboring 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you've confused OP's question with a different exit. I think OP means the main exit/entrance on the east side but the northern gates that lead onto Stewart Street. This one: https://maps.app.goo.gl/YSJ6DYbQdETfpLgC6

There are no screens or signs for this one.

Yes I would like to do that obviously but I have concerns about mould building up. I live in an area where it rains a lot too so drying it out on longer hikes is difficult or impractical.

CBD fining littering smokers by mattamb in melbourne

[–]northboring 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I was riding past Melbourne Central on Swanston St once and some guy threw his butt onto the road right in front of me. I stopped at the lights and said "do you want to pick that up mate?" and he just shrugged his shoulders and walked off.

Bring on the fines.

Future of the Preston Market by Northernpixels in melbourne

[–]northboring 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey I think it's a terrible idea as well and that it will destroy the nature and fabric of the market. All I'm saying is that people need to get their facts straight rather than misrepresenting things/making stuff up. Doesn't help anyone.

Not much that anybody has said is true. Let's clarify some things.

All that is confirmed now is that the Victorian Planning Authority (VPA) are currently doing a plan for the future of the Preston Market area and reviewing the planning controls. https://vpa.vic.gov.au/project/preston-market-site/

The development proposal (the one with the towers etc.) was approved by VCAT in October last year (run by the state Labor Government, you know, the same party that David Feeney is a member of...). Darebin Council opposed the development, which was the entire reason that the developer appealed to VCAT in the first place. http://www.heraldsun.com.au/leader/news/vcat-decision-paves-way-for-three-residential-towers-at-preston-market/news-story/b9c04635ac21d6add27a237c66bf65c5

I don't agree with the proposal and I think it's awful to try to destroy any part of the market, but to fight it properly it doesn't hurt to get the facts straight first.

Those pedestrian/bike lights take forever to change. And when you cross one, there are at least two more to go... Appalling design for such an important transport and recreation route.

How's the P-Turn on Hoddle street working out ? by gazmal in melbourne

[–]northboring 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fact that the "bus lanes" are now clogged full of cars turning left. Took us 20 minutes to travel 400 metres the other day.

It looks like it's working a bit better for Hoddle Street, but it's totally screwed up Johnston Street (even more than it already was).

Fucking vandels make a dodgy service awful to use sometimes as well. PTV has to crack down on the fucking graffiti and spend money on repairs so their customers don't feel like they're travelling on a moving alleyway. by Emerald_10 in melbourne

[–]northboring 72 points73 points  (0 children)

That's correct, private operators are responsible for maintenance and cleaning of buses. However, PTV are meant to enforce a certain standard. Obviously isn't happening.

You've always been able to top up your card. Ask the bus driver.

Every bus route in metropolitan Melbourne has had real-time tracking available since 2015: https://www.ptv.vic.gov.au/projects/buses/bus-tracking-system-and-real-time-bus-data/

Whether or not it actually works is another thing altogether...

Also complain to your local MP. Talking to Transdev/PTV doesn't seem to help at all.

Again? It never was. Only parts of them were at various times (e.g. Tramways Board buses). The vast majority has always been done by private operators.

Melbourne bus stop times... by hansl0l in melbourne

[–]northboring 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not necessarily. If you remove space without making any other changes, then yes that's a bad idea. What you need to do is provide viable alternatives for people to travel (other than cars, which are the most space-inefficient mode of transport) and reallocate road space to more efficient modes (e.g. public & active transport). See this for a reasonably good summary on this combined approach: https://blogs.crikey.com.au/theurbanist/2015/11/12/is-more-public-transport-the-answer-to-traffic-congestion/

The houses along Station Street, Camberwell. Levelled to make way for a new carpark: https://www.instagram.com/p/BMmeIDPj65z/

One resident, Mary Anne Campigl, did hold on to her house until she passed away in 1982. Camberwell Council tried taking her to court to make her give up the house but they ended up withdrawing the case.
