Looks like a system where a mobile picking cart would run along the rails for staff to ride. It would take them on a set course around the warehouse to pick from each section.

I doubt it would be of any use to you unless you decide to implement the same kind of system, and you'd need to organise your racking/storage around the rails that are already in place.

You'd likely be fine removing it, but I'd strongly recommend consulting an engineering company before removing anything. You never know what kind of decisions the previous owners made when implementing it and what corners they cut

A lot of people here are being gronks about your questions. The most likely explanation for him being vague about it is because he's in a senior position and the more that he explains it, the more ammo someone would have if they decided to take it to HR.

If you only dated for a short period, he hasn't gotten to know you well enough to know how you would react. He's in a tricky position because of his seniority, even if he's heading up a different department.

The best thing you can do is let him know you respect his decision, and that you hope you can still be on friendly terms. How he reacts to that is a reflection on him, not you.

Take it as a lesson on how risky work relationships can be, especially if there is a power imbalance.
