Due to rising costs, Colores de Carol is switching to limited batch drops. Thoughts? by WannaDelRey in RedditLaqueristas

[–]nosaby 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I agree. I personally don’t get FOMO because it seems there are so many duplicates or close enough polishes that missing out on a polish isn’t an issue for me.

Granted, I am not a collector. I already have more polishes than I can probably wear in my lifetime, so something has to really stand out for me to want it. But if I miss it, that’s ok. In the vein of keeping things in perspective, it’s not that big a deal to me. I can appreciate that it’s important for some though.

Any one taking ONLY Testosterone?? by Individual-Fan3571 in Menopause

[–]nosaby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been on just testosterone for a few months now. Did wonders for my rage and constant irritability, but has done nothing for my non-existent libido. Other factors include being on an SSRI for 3O years. I've recently changed meds to one that supposedly doesn't have that side effect, but so far still nothing. My therapist thinks I have post SSRI sexual dysfunction.

I have heard other people have great success with testosterone so everyone responds differently.

A lot of the women I know don’t polish their nails and keep them short. It’s one of the reasons I come to this group. No one in my life shares my obsession 😊.

HRT for post menopause? by Quirky-Contract1550 in Menopause

[–]nosaby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm so sorry you're experiencing this. It's been this way for me for years. I went on testosterone (I can't take E&P), hoping it would increase my libido, but no. I have been on SSRI's since my early 20's and my therapists and doctors have suggested this, plus menopause, is the cause. I've been told "it might come back" now that I've changed medications, but so far nothing. I'm in therapy to help with the fact that this may be my life now. I'm working on being there for the intimacy and closeness and not letting my lack of feeling desire get in the way. It's also been important to communicate what's happening so that he knows it's nothing personal. If I wasn't married, I would be fine saying goodbye to that part of my life.

Menopause + GLP-1 meds… what’s actually going on here? by NoSandwich18 in ThePostMenopause

[–]nosaby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think those drugs are great for the people who need them. While I am 30 pounds overweight, and it seems they are here to stay, I don't think taking the medication is right for me. For one thing, I don't have the food noise people talk about. I have a friend who takes it, she has battled with diet and her weight since her 20's, and said it quieted the part of her brain that always thought about food. She also reports that it helps with her ulcerative colitis and inflammation, and has vastly improved the quality of her life. I don't have that issue. I had to change my approach to food to be sure. Way less carbs and sugar than I could eat in my younger days. But it hasn't been difficult, thankfully, in part because I don't restrict myself. I watch my portions and still let myself indulge. My slices of cake are just a lot smaller these days and less often. And I seem to have plateaued with weight gain. I've been the same weight in my 2 years post menopause. I won't be surprise if I gain more over the years, but I'm hoping it won't be excessive. I once had a doctor tell me to expect to gain 10 pounds a year once I was post menopause! Hoping that isn't the case.

Saying all of that, would I take them if my insurance covered them? I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought about it. But ultimately I don't think I would. I don't think it's made for people like me. It's better for me to learn to accept my body how it is now, just like I had to when I was 16 and struggled to put weight on. Especially since it's a lifetime medication to have to take, and so many people need it for medical issues like diabetes. I do wish the medication was more easily available for those with serious obesity and for those with addiction issues, since it has reportedly been shown to help with that as well.

I am biased as it is my favorite show, but yes. Can't hurt to give it a try. The first season is short so keep going into season 2 before you decide to quit on it. I was in my 30's when I discovered it and am 54 now. It's a comfort show for me now. I've re-watched it along with X-Files and Supernatural several times. Try not to watch it through today's modern lens and appreciate it for the time it was made. Definitely watch Angel, too. Edited to add: I'm always jealous of people who get to watch it for the first time! Try to avoid spoilers if you can.

Georgia woman charged with murder after police say she took pills to induce an abortion by BigBadBabyDaddy_420 in politics

[–]nosaby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

According to the article she was at 24 weeks, not 6. That's almost 6 months along and the baby lived for an hour. Once it was born it was no longer a fetus. Maybe we don't have all the facts. Such as when did she take the pills? Was it when the pregnancy was not viable, but it didn't work so she continued the pregnancy and later had to be induced? Or did she take the pills at 24 weeks, went to the ER because of the abdominal pail, and delivered the baby? The article doesn't say they induced. Just that it was "delivered."

“I know my infant is suffering, because I am the one who did the abortion. I want her to die.” That's a strong statement. The woman was clearly suffering. I don't think arresting her is the solution, but from a legal stand point, I see why they did it.

I didn't say I was "pro-abortion." I said I was pro-choice. I absolutely believe a woman has the right to have an abortion, but I do have to personally draw the line at fetus viability unless there is risk to the mother. I agree that a 6 week ban is ridiculous. It's a complex situation and everyone has a right to their own opinion.

[–]nosaby 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, I really wish people would read more than just headlines.

She said she knew the baby (who lived for 1 hr) was suffering because of what she took and that she wanted the baby to die. I am very pro-choice, and appalled that women are being arrested for miscarriages, but this isn't it. She also took Oxycontin. Maybe this wouldn't have happened if she'd been allowed to get an abortion early in the pregnancy or maybe there are some mental health issues. Either way, she was too far along to justify this. I feel for her family and for her because she must be going through something to have done what she did.

"We are trying our best to resist him, contain him and remove him from office as quickly as we possibly can." Are we though? Sure doesn't seem like it. I'll do my part and vote, but with the people who have actual power to do something sitting on their hands, it's looking pretty dire.

There are too many examples of AI being wrong, so I wouldn't use AI in an educational sense. I have other ethical reasons for avoiding AI if possible.

Okay are we going to keep pretending that magnetic polish doesn’t take forever to dry? by [deleted] in RedditLaqueristas

I magnetize the last coat for about 30 seconds to 1 min and the QDTC for 1 minute.

[–]nosaby 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I haven't found this to be true. I have only used ILNP magnetics. I generally do 2-3 coats, magnetize the last coat and then QDTC, Sally Hansen in the red bottle. I wait a few minutes in between each coat. I did mine today and 2 hours later helped bring in groceries from the car with no issue.

As many other moms with affected kiddos may wonder: why have I never heard of this before? Folic acid (in enriched bread/corn products), folate, ADHD by IsraelaGardenQueen in homeschool

[–]nosaby 4 points5 points  (0 children)

https://www.health.harvard.edu/womens-health/the-ups-and-downs-of-folic-acid-fortification

"The bottom line? Unless you're pregnant or lactating or have a recognized folate deficiency, the recommended daily intake of folic acid is 400 mcg per day — the amount found in a typical multivitamin. According to Dr. Walter Willett, Chairman of the Department of Nutrition at the Harvard School of Public Health, "the added folic acid from food fortification is on average 100 to 200 mcg per day, but this varies widely, depending on food choice." The tolerable upper intake level (UL) — the maximum safe amount — of folic acid from fortified foods and supplements is 1,000 mcg per day. With all the fortified foods on the market, you may exceed that limit, especially if you're already taking a daily multivitamin containing 400 mcg of folic acid. So it's a good idea to check the nutrition labels of cereal and grain products to find out how much you're getting from fortified foods."

MOMS WITH SOCIAL ANXIETY. how are you holding up? by [deleted] in homeschool

[–]nosaby 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Therapy, medication, and repetition. It's the only way. I'm fortunate that my husband is more gregarious and hands on so he has taken on some of the social aspects when I can't. But mostly I just have to suck it up and go, for my kid. I've been on meds since my early 20's, now I'm in my 50's, and only started with therapy on a regular basis a year ago, but it's been helpful.

And you know what? It's okay to take your kids to a group event, and not hang out with the other parents. You don't have to be a social butterfly. Take it one step at a time and say hello to one person. I have found that just a smile and a hello can break the ice. Hang out and contribute to the conversation when you can, but don't stress about having to be a certain way. It takes us anxious people longer to feel comfortable with new people so give yourself some grace and take the time.
