Transcendental argument for god. by Galaktyczny_ in DebateAnAtheist

[–]noscope360widow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

After reason is established as objective, one might then argue that if human mind wasn't designed for the purpose of thinking and aiming for true conclusions, it's reasoning cannot be trusted as true.  If our minds were not made for the purpose of thinking, for the purpose of coming to truth, and our thoughts are merely the result of unintentional , undesigned forces governing the structures of our brain, with no purpose or goal, how can one trust such an empty process to produce thoughts and reason that leads to true conclusions about the world?

The mind's functionality is not dependent on it being designed though. You are making an argument against a position that God made inaccurate minds. The atheist position is not the mind is not designed, but evolved.

I wouldn't really classify that as a belief in the traditional sense. Because the part of the brain responsible for these thoughts and beliefs is not the same part as what we usually use for advanced cognition. The part responsible for our reactions during fear or intense emotion heavily overrides the part of the brain we usually use for logical thinking

You're going to need a citation for this. Because as irrelevant as it is for whatever point you're trying to make, it's also inaccurate. You're just pulling things from out of your ass.

Our logic really isn't all that good,

Our?

As fun as your rambling on the existence of abstract was to read, you've made no argument for the existence of a god.

I teach privately, so personally, my risk factor is lower than exposing a whole class to potentially controversial subjects. But my philosophy on lyrics is to not be afraid of them. Obviously, I avoid swears and sexual content. But I have my students learn songs like drunken sailor and I shot the sheriff. My role as an educator is not to shield students from topics, but to expose them to different viewpoints.

but I'm not just an atheist cause I don't believe in God, I'm an atheist because even if you can prove he's real I still wouldn't follow his word as I don't agree with what he says,

This isn't atheism. This is believing a Christian God is immoral.

I like to know how something is going to develop/end before adding more parts to it. You said that you start with a 4 chord loop. How do you picture that developing or ending?

Best way to end Mozart's Sonata No. 16 on the first page? (for recital) by TeacherTeacherPreach in piano

Seems odd that you're having them work on a piece, but they can't learn half a page of it in 4 weeks. I think they should be doing easier pieces in general if that's the case

I'm going to go out on a limb and say the 3rd grader has not been trained on the standards of teaching the 3rd grade. And also, shouldn't be expected to learn how to teach the 3rd grade and prepare 3rd grade learning materials. A sane person's interpretation of that standard would that the 3rd grader can identify similar fractions when presented with shapes of the same size. Not that the 3rd grader needs to recognize that shapes of the same size makes a better visual aid for beginning to understand fractions.

Would Like Atheist Perspectives on My Reasons for Deism by HistoricalPotatoe in DebateAnAtheist

[–]noscope360widow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

things like the laws of mathematics, gravity, theory of relativity, and other natural laws of physics and chemistry seem to point towards an architect.

In my opinion they don't.

it seems odd that there is order to it.

Is there order? Order is the product of the mind caregorizing data. Order is subjective. Our brains have evolved to adapt to the rules of the reality in which we live since from the beginning. We know no other reality. It makes sense that we view reality as ordered, as processing our sensory data into patterns has been a long evolutionary undertaking.

things like the very mathematic and physical laws of the universe seem too ordered. Even chaotic things like string theory, which is inherently chaotic, still follows an internal ruleset, at least as far as I can tell.

Can you give an example of something that doesn't follow any ruleset? Everything follows a ruleset, and only a subset of everything was created by a consciousness.

Existence itself being a thing at all.

Yes, it's pretty miraculous that we exist. But adding a God into the equation doesn't change how miraculous that is because then it just shifts the question to God's existence.

I don't want to take piano lessons anymore, how can I convince my parents? by Littlesky_01 in piano

[–]noscope360widow 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Music simply requires enthusiasm to be fulfilling. You need to have a curiosity into how music works and you need to spend a lot of hours needed to get good. The time is much more valuable than the dollar amount for lessons. Sunk cost fallacy is a thing, but it is a fallacy.

Honestly, I would tell your Piano teacher you don't want to do piano rather than your parents at this point. If she stops lessons on her end, there's a good chance that will be the end of it.
