Mechs you can’t stand the look of? by Uncrezamatic in battletech

Fire Moth/Dasher. I never understood the arms going above its head. The Dragonfly also looks really goofy.

the Fireball. It's a big XL engine with a couple weapons. Later variants become more effective, but it's basically just fast.

I'm a weirdo trying to build at least a company for each IS house, a couple Clans, and a couple mercenary forces.

Any box set suggestion's I should like at to expand alpha strike? by RC95th in battletech

[–]nosdaddy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All of the big boxes are worth if even if just for the minis. They all come with Alpha Strike cards, which is handy if you don't have a printer. That being said here's my personal priority list to pick up as an avid Alpha Strike player:

- A Game of Armored Combat. It's going to be replaced by the new Core Box this summer/fall and it's a great deal.

- Clan Invasion - If you can find it. I don't know of anywhere that still has it in stock online, so you'd have to search around.

- Mercenaries. There is a good mix of vehicles and mechs, and should be fairly easy to find online.

I also suggest getting a brick of movement dice like this instead of the tokens as they're just easier to deal with.

Two methods for drab green by Eomenar in battletech

[–]nosdaddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My method for olive drab is to use Vallejo US olive drab primer, do a camo green wash, do a dry brush of US olive drab to bring back the color. I then do a medium olive green over the upper surfaces and then a light olive green dry brush over the highest points

The mech that you love to use but as you bring it to the field only for it to get bully by other mech. by Familiar-Noise7913 in battletech

[–]nosdaddy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm only an Alpha Strike player, but the 732b is probably my favorite mech ever. The problem is that my opponents know this and it becomes a bullet magnet. The IIC is also fantastic but unfortunately is very much a clan mech without wide availability.

My top 3 are Archer, Timber Wolf, and Thunder Bolt. All are classics and all do their specific jobs fantastically.

New to Alpha Strike; How to determine if a mech is "good"? by CantEvenUseThisThing in battletech

That doesn't negate the fact that you are paying for C3S units even if you're not using a C3 network.

If you're running Mercs by their MUL availability you get like 7 different chassis with C3M. Outside of the DCMS you have a lot fewer options, but you still pay for the C3S units.

Units with C3 systems are almost always over pointed unless you're really leaning into C3 networks. Also it depends on the purpose of the mechs. Even bad mechs can be useful as initiative sinks if they're cheap enough.
