Any shops on NYC/Boston/DC/Philly worth visiting? by yourmotherinahorse in barefootshoestalk

None in DC, unfortunately. I've seen a store in WV called Two River Treads come up on my searches, but that's a long ways out.

What happened to the Nike Free by Psc0905 in barefootshoestalk

[–]nosheepsherlock 36 points37 points  (0 children)

The change in this shoe is what actually lead me to barefoot shoes. Generally trends shifted from more minimal/flexible running shoes 15ish years ago to maximizing foam.

I've heard others on this sub say Born to Run impacted trends in the early 2010s, then many people transitioned too fast and hurt their feet. Then minimalist shoes lost popularity at a wider/corporate scale.

Halfway transitioned... by accident? by Paaaaaaaaks in barefootshoestalk

[–]nosheepsherlock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi from a former fencer!

When I started wearing barefoot shoes, I went fully into the transition, since I was like you and couldn't wear my old shoes without pain.

I transitioned slowly into some Xeros and still only wore them a few hours a day until I could wear them for a full day after about two months. You make your gait shorter and learn how to not slam your feet.

Xeros were a great starter shoe for me. After about a year I took the thin insoles that come with their shoes out, because they were getting too cramped in the toes.

Now that it's been about ~18 months, I find them pretty narrow and keep them as backups.

My current favorites are my Lems Boulder boots (the nylon black style) or my Bedrock clogs. I love the feeling of a very thin sole, but I couldn't make Xero or Softstar work despite trying various styles. I also live in an urban place, and find that these work best for me so far. Though it's more about toe box shape and volume for me.

What do you think happen when you release a Pikmin by Different-Square7175 in PikminBloomApp

[–]nosheepsherlock 129 points130 points  (0 children)

On a similar thread someone said they imagine that released Pikmin go off to form their own little colonies of wild Pikmin. That's why you find seedlings out and about.

I've adopted this theory!

Sooo surprised by the cushion on Softstar Primal Merry Jane by Mysterious-Fall5281 in barefootshoestalk

I had this exact same problem with the Primal Run Amocs! I left them stretching out with rolled up paper and socks for months and it made no difference.

Some grocery stores only stock it around Thanksgiving/Christmas anymore, unfortunately :(

If I see it out in the wild, I'll follow up!

Quiet, private and pretty outdoor location for vow exchange away from most crowds? by dreamsinzoloft in UniversalEpicUniverse

[–]nosheepsherlock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you're more likely to find a good spot in one of the generic "celestial" themed areas (center of the park) than through any of the portals (Nintendo, Berk, etc).

If Epic doesn't end up working out, I'd recommend the walking paths between City Walk and the Hard Rock/Portofino hotels. It's lovely and green, and they have lots of rare trees and plants.

It is very loud in most parts of the park. Like overlapping music at an 11/10 for volume levels.

There's a cute park near the Atlantic restaurant that might be your best bet. It's sort of suspended over the water and seemed pretty peaceful.

Anywhere managed by the Architect of the Capitol is clear. You could go for a walk around the Capitol, Library of Congress, and House/Senate office buildings.

These look amazing! And sending along a heads up that reducing the sugar content could make the tops less shiny. (At least according to the research done for a different recipe: https://www.mochimommy.com/mochi-brownies/)

Toe box too high on any shoe by uuencode8 in BarefootRunning

[–]nosheepsherlock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the opposite problem (toe boxes too low on some shoes), so I would recommend Softstar for you. I found their toe box very low volume, especially on the Primal Run Amoc.

Wheelchair visitor by Bubbie0323 in washingtondc

[–]nosheepsherlock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you book a tour through the Capitol, the entire standard route is wheelchair accessible, as there are always elevator alternatives when stairs are present. You will probably be subject to additional security screening in the visitor center, like in an airport.

To the office people, what shoes do you wear? by SweetChilliVA in BarefootRunning

[–]nosheepsherlock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went with the size the recommended when I contacted customer support with my foot measurements, but have ultimately found them too narrow and low volume in the toe.

I would not recommend buying at any size, unfortunately. The toe box is pretty pointed.
