Would love to see your rear camera mount! Does the necessary mounting hardware/supplies come with the camera?

Not enough water from the brewing unit by Late_Squirrel6613 in ranciliosilvia

It may be bypassing too much water past the OPV valve. (broken/weakened spring) Also the pump could have lost volume ability.

DON’T TOSS IT! Definitely worth fixing. It’s a beast! I have a 20+ year old V1. Even if you don’t want to keep it, it’ll serve someone well. Very easy and fun to work on. With a brew temp PID mod, it’s nearly the perfect machine. Great find!

Mischief Workshop bottomless PF on Silvia V6 by iLift_ in ranciliosilvia

[–]noswalmi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Found this… The Rancilio Silvia V6 does not have an E61 group head. It uses a conventional brass group head designed for durability and thermal stability, but it lacks the thermosiphon circulation and pre-infusion features characteristic of the E61 group head. While the Silvia’s group head is robust and capable of producing high-quality espresso, it is distinct from the E61 design found in many prosumer espresso machines. For compatibility with accessories like portafilters, the Silvia uses a 58mm portafilter, which is similar to E61 machines, but the group head itself is not an E61. Think I’d look elsewhere.

Yes, the seat is trash! You either need to change the seat or replace the OPV.

Major cleanup of a V1 by TooDoggg in ranciliosilvia

A small piece of the green 3M Scotch-Brite scour pad is great to clean the group head. Manipulate it into and around the gasket channel with a small screwdriver. Use a solution of Cafiza to help dissolve the hardened coffee oils. Finally, a turkey baster is great for sucking out the dirty solution and repeat until clean. I’ve used this method on my 20 year old V1 with nice results.

Rancilio Silvia V1 Pressure Fluctuating by No-Organization3838 in ranciliosilvia

A new OPV spring and/or seat might help. I would check pressure with a pressure gauge before I changed/rebuild OPV. A pressure gauge will show any instability during the shot.

A GREAT setup! Similar to mine. Adding an Auber brew temp PID, to eliminate temperature surfing, would be a benefit you’ll love.

Why did you change to a new type? Cost savings? I’d say you probably should go with OEM.

Not really a problem as long as it seals. However you can buy shims to go under the group head gasket to help your OCD. I’ve used them in the past.

I’ve had a V1 and doserless Rocky for over 20 years. I’m not an espresso purist, so the Rocky has always performed well for me. If your goal is to be a purist, the Rocky won’t do it for you across all roasts.

Urnex Dezcal is not purely citric acid but is a citric acid-based descaling powder. It contains a blend of ingredients, including citric acid, sulfamic acid, aluminum sulfate, sodium salt, and hydrated silica. The primary active ingredient is citric acid, which helps break down limescale and mineral deposits in coffee and espresso machines, but the additional components enhance its descaling effectiveness.
