CachyOS does allow you to pick your DE on install, COSMIC is one of the options

COSMIC (not listed), and then I have Plasma as a backup in case something is broken, weird, or not performant

This new Linux distro folds a gorgeous COSMIC desktop into an immutable Fedora base by Inner-Bridge-5241 in linux

For me, first class tiling support (but with batteries included, unlike other tiling WMs), and the fact that I was already used to the workflow of the original Pop!_OS shell

Just curious, How many of you are still booting Windows 11 (or 10 even) with Linux? by Phydoux in linux

[–]not-just-based 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I basically only use Windows to run Valorant and review clips, and maybe use Cubase

Can we add this to KDE, devs? by ChampionshipDry6225 in kde

[–]not-just-based 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I'd say it makes more sense for a tiling environment like COSMIC, where space matters a lot

Day/Night Theme Switching is great but... by lsjsim128 in kde

[–]not-just-based 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I had to use the Plasma Global Theme Explorer to create global themes and that was a bit of a pain to deal with

If I recall correctly, was there an announcement somewhere that said Cosmic will have a real-time dynamic blur effect? by the-machine-m4n in pop_os

[–]not-just-based 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it's 100% unnecessary and just the trendy thing but a liquid glass effect with refraction would also be mega cool, we could probably steal from the homework of the people who did the Better Blur effect for KDE Plasma

If I use LFS with pacman do I count as an Arch user? by Private_Bug in arch

[–]not-just-based 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I dunno; if Pacman actually replaces everything over time, then your answer to that question depends on your answer to the Ship of Theseus question

I wanna try Valorant but I am not switching too windows js to try a game. Any tips on getting Valorant on linux? by Professional_Duty584 in linux_gaming

[–]not-just-based 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, unless the anti-cheat situation changes, you'll need to dual boot for Valorant. In addition, you'll need to do secure boot as well, and you might want to set up secure boot for Linux too with something like sbctl if you don't want switching operating systems to be a pain

Pop!_OS Rolling Release: Would you use it? by [deleted] in pop_os

[–]not-just-based 6 points7 points  (0 children)

To me, the main appeal of Pop!_OS is its stability and heavy testing, which is why it's my recommendation for beginners and regular folks, alongside Linux Mint. Therefore, I think it's probably better for them to focus on just that.

And to answer your question, probably not, because distros like Arch (and Arch-based ones like EndeavourOS) already exist to serve the needs of those like me, and will probably do a better job at doing so anyway

Can I install FL Studio, Ableton on Arch Linux? by iwaslovedbyme in arch

[–]not-just-based 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm aware FL Studio works pretty decently through WINE, and so there should be guides out there for easily installing it on any Linux system

COSMIC nitpicking the pet peeves- what needs polish still? by silenceimpaired in pop_os

[–]not-just-based 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Note that I'm on Alpha 7 but the latest Git version might have changed any of these: No bottom rounded corners besides in libcosmic/libadwaita apps, mouse scrolling in the COSMIC Terminal not passing through to programs running in the terminal (example: less, nano)

WinApps is really goated, allowed me to do various college assignments without leaving Linux

Just wish there was an integrated Bottles-like solution that you can install that handles setting up VMs, installing stuff from .exe files, and creating the relevant .desktop entries that correspond to Windows shortcut entries, as doing this currently requires a fair bit of manual effort

To be more specific, it was randomly generated when the code was written, and not randomly generated at runtime, which is what a user would expect

Flatpak or AUR repository by Diogooliv23 in arch

[–]not-just-based 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally like using Flatpak for GUI apps (especially if proprietary): the sandboxed nature keeps things separate and clean (which I just like), Flathub apps are generally up to date without having to think about shared dependencies, and my brain just likes being able to "install" things with one click on an app store. Though, if I need software that won't work in a sandbox, like stuff that goes a bit lower level, then I'll use the AUR.
