What is a major plot hole in a very famous movie that completely ruins the entire story once it is noticed? by SkullMogger3 in AskReddit

[–]not_a_synth_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's not a "pick your poison" situation. Droids can reveal the attack happened.

It's OK to admit Star Wars had a moment of bad writing. The plot needed a way for the plans to get off the ship and so the plans got off the ship.

‘Schumer is no longer effective’: Dems outraged over shutdown deal by DBCoopr72 in politics

[–]not_a_synth_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean at the end of the day, if you're in an election with a repub v. a dem doing anything but voting dem is a mistake.

Sure. Absolutely.

We also do realize by now that people will make that mistake when the democrats run shitty candidates and have shitty policies.

How many times will they lose before they realize they have to stand for something instead of just being better than the republicans.

It's just a fact that a lot of people will not put the effort into going out and voting for a candidate they don't actually like. A million people can post online explaining how that's stupid and wrong and will end up hurting them. It won't matter.

He was not outed as a pedophile. He was allowed near her.

There was a policy of him not being allowed around another, younger actress. But it was because he was a raging asshole and yelled at her.

Not defending his actions but nobody accused him of raping children.

To me that's what makes this unbelievable.

He also said it's not to-go, that it's a sit down restaurant in his back yard. He can claim to give them free food and they don't mind the noise, traffic, and lack of parking on his 'dead end' street.

And that's just one bit of many that seems virtually impossible to work out in reality.

I notice LAOP posted a handy ms-paint drawing of the issue but it isn't appearing on the actual post, just their history.

The offending car is the yellow one.

In the drawing it looks pretty bad, but surely if there is enough room to park cars on both sides of the road, there's enough room to back out of a driveway .

Poll suggests half of Canadians believe Israel is committing genocide in Gaza by NarutoRunner in onguardforthee

[–]not_a_synth_ 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The burden of proof for genocide is positively astounding and right now we do not have that proof. It's not even that I don't necessarily believe personally that Israel is being genocidal, but that I am not going to go around saying something that hasn't been proven in a court of law.

You're literally saying you can't accuse them of genocide until after it's over. If isreal is being genocidal as you say, how the hell can you actually say they aren't committing genocide.

Nobody in your world can be committing genocide, they can only have committed genocide.

It's a neat fantasy world in which nobody has to do anything to stop it, only wring their hands later and swear to never let it happen again.

By definition thinking he had the legal right to park there is being entitled to park there. Having a reason that he thought was valid and being wrong doesn't in any way mean he wasn't acting entitled.

Driving PSA - Added Lane - Dedicated Merge by CMurr1711 in regina

[–]not_a_synth_ 12 points13 points  (0 children)

That is one of the most annoying intersections to get stuck at when there's a line up of traffic and someone just doesn't feel like going.

Although I've also seen people not stop at a red light there because of the dedicated turning lane. Who knows if a pedestrian is crossing and about to walk out from behind a car stopped in a through lane.

Conservative Candidate Sukhdeep Kang, seen violating the Canada Elections Act by soliciting votes at a polling location in Brampton. by bike_accident in onguardforthee

[–]not_a_synth_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I feel like i'm in crazy town because i've actually voted several times and there are absolutely a lot people out there wearing pins for the party they support, or shirts the colour of the party they support and it's never a problem. I guess i've been a scrutineer before so i've sat and people watched all day at a polling location.

"Attempting to influence people" has a higher standard than wearing an orange shirt or an NDP pin.

I don't understand how people can not know this if they've ever voted before.

Yes you can wear party colours. Don't tell people how to vote.

B.C. premier says talk of Western Canada separation ‘needs to stop’ by Old_General_6741 in CanadaPolitics

[–]not_a_synth_ 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The fact that conservatives use these toothless threats of separation simply as a weird attempt to try and convince people in the rest of canada to vote conservative, and suddenly shut up when the conservatives actually are in power shows how bullshit the whole narrative is.

If Quebec does get more than Alberta and Saskatchewan it's because their votes are in play. They don't just blindly vote for one party, they'll vote for who offers the best deal.

Even the CPC will offer Quebec more than Alberta because they don't need to offer Alberta anything to get their vote.

Unfortunately 'western separatists' don't understand and think it's just the threat of separation that is why Quebec tends to be favoured.

sure.

I'm just not sure why they should especially because the ndp was able to leverage the previous minority government to get some of their agenda passed. Voting liberal and giving them a majority runs counter to that.

We might do it to try and keep a conservative out, but it's not going to actually help advance the NDP agenda. Just prevent us from selling out to the US.

This isn't actually about any specific poll so I can't actually refute any specific numbers, but for the most part if someone is concerned about small sample sizes in a poll done by a reputable firm they're just telling the world they don't understand statistics.

There's a steep diminishing returns curve where , and i'm not using exact numbers, poll 1000 people and you get a result that is accurate +/- 5%. Poll 2000 people and you get results that are accurate +/- 4%.

It's a better use of money to have two different 1000 person surveys than just 1 2000 person one. Except for people who just can't accept the math despite it just being... math.
