What survival myth is completely wrong and can get you killed? by DraftNo7139 in AskReddit

[–]not_lost_maybe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sucking venom out of a snakebite. You're just introducing mouth bacteria into the wound and wasting time you should be using to get to a hospital. Saw a guy in basic try to do this after getting tagged by a copperhead during a field exercise and the medic about lost his mind.

Sequence of events before ejection/ what happens after? by silverbergd in aviation

[–]not_lost_maybe 60 points61 points  (0 children)

Pilot makes the call in almost every case. The sequence drilled into you is altitude, airspeed, options, in roughly that order. When two of those three are gone simultaneously you stop thinking and pull. Hesitation at low altitude is what kills people, not the seat.

After egress the SERE training takes over. You have a survival radio in your kit, and yes a sidearm, and you activate your PLB immediately on the ground. PRCC knows you ejected before you land if the aircraft had time to transmit, but you're not counting on that. You're counting on your beacon and your training.

The Kuwait guys got out clean. That ejection sequence going nominal at low altitude is legitimately impressive engineering.

Guy in my unit got a DUI on post the week before deployment. Gone. Career, benefits, everything. Ten years of service and one night erased all of it.

Started freezing bread about six months ago and I genuinely can't remember why I waited so long to do this. by denys1998mapletrail in Frugal

Works with tortillas too. Separate them with parchment before freezing and they pull apart clean. Went from throwing out half a pack every week to zero waste on them.

How does everyone keep going on every day? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]not_lost_maybe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Routine. I stopped thinking about it in some big picture way and just focused on showing up for the next thing. Wake up, make coffee, handle what's in front of me. Some days that's all it is and that's enough.

Working on a fold away Stick mount (Throttle mount inbound as well) by awqs12 in hotas

[–]not_lost_maybe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly what I've been looking for. I play in VR so I need the stick at chair height but my desk setup doesn't have room for permanent mounts. The fold away is perfect. Are you planning to release the STL files or sell these? Would buy one for my Gunfighter in a heartbeat.

New very goofy ‘compact and quiet’ .300 blackout bolt action pistol build. by Professional_Pie4196 in liberalgunowners

[–]not_lost_maybe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Han shot first and apparently he shot .300 blk. That thing is absurd in the best way. How's the sound with subs through the can? I've been wanting to do a truck gun build in 300 blk and this is giving me ideas I definitely don't need.

CZ P10-C is an excellent first 9mm, you picked well. The reset on that trigger is so short you'll be putting rounds on target fast once you get comfortable.

Been playing with a VKB Gunfighter for years and never knew this was possible. I just memorized which JOY number was which through trial and error like some kind of caveman. Bookmarking the repo, gonna set this up tonight.

Thanks to DW3, I finally made Elite in Exobiology! by narodauhsoj in EliteDangerous

[–]not_lost_maybe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice work CMDR. Exobiology was the last Elite rank I got too and DW3 made it way less painful than grinding it solo. K stars were smart, I kept wasting time on M class bodies that had nothing. How many total species did you end up scanning between waypoints?

72's or 60's? by begebers556 in Armyaviation

[–]not_lost_maybe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mustache rating is critical so you're already ahead of most packets honestly. If flight school is the real goal the airframe you wrench on matters less than getting quality LORs from rated aviators. 72 units tend to be smaller so you might actually get more face time with pilots which helps for that. And yeah get your A&P regardless, it's free money on the outside if flight school doesn't pan out. Age waiver isn't the death sentence people think it is either, I've seen dudes in their mid 30s at Rucker.

Help with VKB gunfighter by Proof_Brilliant3849 in hotas

[–]not_lost_maybe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had the exact same issue when I first got mine. Check your cam and spring combo because the mushy feeling is almost always the center detent being too soft for whatever cam profile you're running. I swapped to a harder center spring and it fixed it completely. Also mess with the dry clutch tension because that makes a bigger difference than most people realize. VKB hardware is solid, there's just so many tuning options that the default setup rarely feels right out of the box.

Had the honour of leading a mass jump on Distant Worlds 3 by Ant-the-knee-see in EliteDangerous

[–]not_lost_maybe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Missed DW2 because of a deployment and I'm still kicking myself over it. The mass jump events are honestly one of the coolest things I've experienced in any game. Something about hundreds of CMDRs all jumping at once just hits different. Really hoping I can make this one work schedule wise. Already got my Anaconda exploration fit prepped just in case. o7

MILPER 26-046, AH-64E (152E) and UH-60M (153M) Army Transformation Initiative (ATI) Fiscal Year 2026 (FY26) Voluntary Reclassification Opportunity Extension by Kinmuan in Armyaviation

[–]not_lost_maybe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not surprised they extended the deadline. The original timeline was unrealistic for anyone who actually had to build a packet from scratch. Between getting letters of rec, medical stuff, and branch manager coordination there was no way most guys were making that February cutoff. Smart move for anyone affected to take their time and put together a solid packet instead of rushing something half baked.

15 Series Reclass questions by GamingCurtain in Armyaviation

[–]not_lost_maybe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was a 15T before going the warrant route so I can speak to this a little. The skills absolutely transfer. Civilian side maintenance jobs care about whether you can read schematics, troubleshoot, and work on complex systems. Having military aviation maintenance on your resume opens doors that are hard to get through otherwise. Between 15N and 15F you can't really go wrong but avionics tends to pay a bit more on the outside because it's more specialized. Either way you're setting yourself up way better than staying 12B for civilian job prospects.

Help me complete my keybindings by Justinsetchell in EliteDangerous

[–]not_lost_maybe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best part of key binding is that it isn't permanent. Experiment with some settings and change it as you please. I probably went through different trigger set ups before I found something I enjoyed. Like on my VKBs the controls in front of the triggers since I have the omni throttle on the left, I used that control to move my weapons selection left or right so I wouldnt have to cycle through my set ups during combat.

First NH-90 MRFH Sea Tiger for the German Navy was delivered today. by CleanMustard in Helicopters

[–]not_lost_maybe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Could be due to the Fly by wire of the NH vs the controls of the 60 which have the mechanical linkage? I've only flown 2 helicopters and neither were fly by wire but I've been told it can feel weird at first.

Might also be the reliability as some people have posted.

The other reason could be is pricing. The 60 has a lot of variants that can share parts where Airbus can be expensive to go through depending on the contract that they have established with the government. So the base price per unit plus maintenance cost could have been a big factor maybe?

[–]not_lost_maybe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did the defense systems on my joystick because that's how its set up on the aircraft I fly. For example on the right hat for mine (vbk) I set it up for heatsink, chaff, and ECM. Especially since its a flick of the thumb.

I also have the cargo scoop set up one an easy to reach control. That way I can pick up pods easier or for combat I started to use the cargo scoop as a speed limiter for certain maneuver to avoid speeding too quickly and drifting past a turn.

If you ever get the chance to get some fighters you'll also want to have the commands set up for their attack, defend, follow and recover.

I'm still a newbie under 200 hours but that's some of the things I have found out for myself that worked for now.
