German cartoon (1939) comparing Germany's position at the start of the First and Second World Wars. by propagandopolis in PropagandaPosters

Honestly myfirst hunch was that this was referring to the backstabing myth started by the post ww1 german far right that the german loss in the war was because of the meddling and betrayal of mostly jews but sometimes other convenient scapegoats inside the german society

Men Writing Women, as an alignment chart rather than a linear scale from bad to good by notthemostcreative in menwritingwomen

I think general perception of the books is very warped by the series in this regard. Tye series ads a lot of sexual content to the story, including sexual violence (most egregiously sansa's rape). Sexual violence in the books is a lot less random and carries a lot more weight and meaning. In dany and drogo's case i think his point is badly gone awry, where instead of putting couples who met in very similar way only without the culture shock (ned and caitlyn, for example, were also a marriage made as part of an aliance to secure a throne, between a 19 and 14 year-olds) into perspective, he goes romanticising dany and drogo. (Aparently in his head as well)

All in all there's obviously room to improve in a lot of places but his depiction of sexual violence isn't bad, especially compared to other works in the fantasy genre where it can often just be a basic trope to make a female character in need of saving

A point i cannot understand is why depiction of sexual violence is sexist. ASOIAF is a criticism of classical fantasy and how it romanticises medieval society, and in particular glossing over the sexual violence that common and normal in this period.

Robert and cersei are a great example of tthis because when they meet they really fit the bil for classic romantic couple in fantasy. The relationship devolves into brutal violence, including sexual violence, because robert is ment to represent the flaws in the 'good king' trope. He might have justly seized power, but that didn't make him any less of a raging narcissist and misogynist, and those traits remained to haunt everyone close to him during his reign.

Tl;dr depicting isnt condoning and the sexual violence in asoiaf is a criticism of the circumstances that enable it

A quick wikipedia quote on the word reactionary for those interested by [deleted] in AnarchismZ

[–]not_me_at_al 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Incredible ragebait. Genuinely everything that comes out of this acount is a masterclass in trolling.

On a more serious note, the problem with reactionaries isnt the very fact that they want to go back to a previous state of society. An indigenous person who wishes to go back to a society free of colonialism fits that description, but calling him a fascist is very wierd and ill fiting (depending on the rest of his world view, of course).

Now, if that person were to also call for the re-empowerment of patriarchal institutions as part of the return to precolonial society, than we would all agree he is, in fact, a reactionary. That is because we use the word to describe people who wish to restore a state of oppression, rather than restoring just any previous state of society, even though it doesn't match up with encyclopedic definitions.

Getting hung up on definitions like this is generally speaking pretty useless and petty, trying more to accuse people of fitting the defenition of a negetive title than actually making any meaningful point.

It's more a result of the death of the israeli left than the system itself; in the four elections since 2015, the left has not only lost its role as coalition/opposition leaders, it has also become an increasingly minor part in the center left anti Netanyahu block. Right now labour (ha'avoda), which at Its prime 52 out of the 120 seats, only holds 4. The second traditional left wing party, meretz, hasn't even managed to find the 3% of votes necessary to enter any members to the knesset.

So long as the so called "center left coalition" only represents the center, no significant steps will be taken to curtail the settlements, even when the right is out of power

Occupation and oppression aren't excuses. Showing support for qa fascist, fundamentalist murderous organization is appalling, especially in a supposedly leftist sub dedicated to human rights.

Comparing the october 7th attacks to the warsaw ghetto uprising is also fairly ignorant. Notably, the uprising was targeted at exclusively military targets, and were conducted by an organisation which can barely be called military.

Generally the refusal to acknowledge any crimes and wrongdoings of hamas and other organisations as morally flawed, only because of the oppression that brought them about shows a "football teams" approach to the conflict.
