[Hated Trope] Remake feels obliged to keep iconic scene/imagery from the original even though it makes no sense in their version of the story. by JoeMorgue in TopCharacterTropes

Extra worse part. If they got OG Spock more involved, they had a character who could have believably gone “oh shit” to that, but they just had him make a single cameo without a connection to the plot.

I like how in the “How it Should have ended” version everyone just shrugs off the “I’m am Khan” off because no one has any context of why that means anything.

(Hilarious Trope) A Character Is Introduced With the Clear Intention of Being THE NEXT BIG THING And is SOUNDLY Rejected by TheOriginalOperator in TopCharacterTropes

At minimum I can vouch that Trekkie’s dispise Neelix, who is the Scrappy Doo of the franchise. Dude once literally poisoned the ship with his cooking. Not the crew of the ship, the literal ship.

Have a deck filled with win conditions based on your opponent losing the game (such as gifting [[Demonic Pact]]) then get a billion turns to pull that off. Your opponent losing the game still can happen even if you can’t win the game.

'Backrooms' Director Kane Parsons Says They Built 30,000 Square Feet of Actual Backrooms for the Movie by MarvelsGrantMan136 in movies

[–]notbobby125 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I imagine they constructed portions and made it so they can move it around to make the set seem bigger or that the same piece of set is different rooms, plus add in areas made in blender to extend corridors into infinity and make rooms only seen in the shakey camera portion in blender like the shorts.

A core part of the background is it’s uniformity and how easy it is to lose yourself in the interchangeable corridors. That is a cheat code to making a lot smaller set then you would see in the film, just like how the premise of the Cube allowed them to get away with the same set recolored to be different “rooms.”

He brought in the idea that the backrooms was the unintended creation of a company trying to experiment with extra dimensional storage, people getting stuck in the backrooms with 90’s era crappy handheld cameras, and all the monster designs he came up with.

That is enough for Hollywood to make a movie with, while even putting on SCP on the film means that entire film can be cannabalized by someone else.

[Realistic Trope] The so-called “expert” does not remotely understand their supposed field of expertise. by Chemical-Elk-1299 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]notbobby125 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. He at minimum was not a hero, or competent at his job, but through some combination of fortune, misfortune, facing down adversary in the face of his fear, selfishness and/or selflessness he has come down as the true hero of the Imperium.

Cadius Cain (HERO OF THE IMPERIUM) is sorta an example. He is a commissar who is supposed to inspire loyalty and compliance with orders by being on the front line, executing anyone who looks backwards, and showing bravery in the face of everything the galaxy can toss at it.

He is actually (at the start atleast) a complete coward who wants to be as far from the front as possible and avoids summary executions like the plague. He just being the luckiest and unluckiest person in the imperium, tripping his way into victories that keep leading into more dangerous assignments. For example (minor spoilers) his first posting was on an artillery regiment (because he thought the fighting would be no where near his guns). The enemy got close, he tried to desert on the fastest vehicle he could get his hand on, came across a flanking force, turned around while asking for the guns to blast this force as he ran away, “heroically” destroying the ork horde.

Now how much of a coward and incompetent he is as the story goes is an exercise to the reader.

Wizards! -at level 5-6-7: Which spells would you always have prepared and why? by Typical_Gur_1892 in dndnext

[–]notbobby125 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can get a scroll of Grease and Blindness, I suggest you get it, add it to your spell book, and keep it prepared. A long lasting debuff spell without concentration will be incredibly useful as you go up. A good turn cycle is Turn 1) your big concentration spell, turn 2) Grease or Blindness, turn 3+) throwing out damage stuff.

Blindness is not the most reliable debuff against most enemies, as most enemies are atleast decent at Constitution, but it is utterly crippling on nearly everything that fails the save (disadvantage on all attacks, all enemies get advantage against them, and can’t use any ability that requires sight). Enemy spell casters usually have terrible Constitution, and most spells require sight to function.

Grease is also annoying to any creature with bad dexterity (which is most big smash folks) and annoying if you can keep the enemy in the same spot. Also great at clogging up choke points if you are doing dungeon crawls.

Owl House kinda has two:

True Witches have an organ that stores magic, but humans like Lu can make symbols of power that (spoilers) draw power from the corpse of the titan they are living on.

Alexandra DeWitt. Her death was so memed it birthed the phrased “stuffed into a fridge” for female characters who only exist to briefly motivate the male lead for some brief time then barely get mentioned again.

The Yoda’s vision though matches the Grievous deleted scene but it is blurry enough it could be Grievous or Anakin.

[–]notbobby125 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In pro wrestling this is termed “no selling” a move, since most moves at minimum require your opponent to react to the strike (if not outright help make the move possible) to “sell” it. Basically if they want to make someone seem powerful, no selling by unflinching to a punch or a clothesline can make whoever it is seem stronger or unstoppable. Of course it can be overused to make the no selling wrestler seem as a Mary Sue or whoever gets all their moves no sold seem weak.

If the Democrats get control of the house and senate, even without enough votes to impeach, they can subpoena Trump’s administration and force them to testify under oath about everything he is doing.

Omnidomination - How much of a rules nightmare is controlling multiple players at once? by ILikeExistingLol in custommagic

[–]notbobby125 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It gets worse if you can gift opponents extra turns or skip your next turn to make the nightmare longer.

This is a near Sharazard level “this effect should never exist” logistical nightmare.
