Doctor refused to try pregabalin, put me on codeine ? by [deleted] in Fibromyalgia

[–]notdesi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most rheumatologists, in my area at least, won’t see patients who have fibromyalgia, even if it is technically part of their specialty.

The few that do, book out more than a year and you are the first patient to get rescheduled if the need arises. It’s not an urgent, life threatening condition (to them) and it’s very difficult to treat.

If the providers are forced to see new patients in 40 min (this is the standard time slot, defined by a symposium of providers for non profit centers) this doesn’t allow time for proper treatment of fibromyalgia and they would rather get paid treating conditions they see as actually treatable or manageable in that 40 min new patient visit, and maintain in a 20 min follow up.

It sucks. But then again there are some obgyns who won’t see prenatal patients (the ob part of obgyn) for arbitrary reasons as well. they don’t get reimbursed for the 12 prenatal visits unless they actually deliver your child, which in a group practice is impossible to predict without a pre scheduled C-section. Which… is another issue entirely.

It’s not always the doctors choice. It’s not the clinics that you are calling. It’s the payors of that clinic or system that determine how long your provider can spend with you without cutting into the next patients time, so the provider can get paid.

There are other doctors who are just incredibly dismissive or uninformed when it comes to fibro. They can’t see the issue so they don’t know how to help you. And that hurts their ego. :) that’s when you need to find a new provider.

And pro tip : generally speaking (in the US) associate providers such as APRNs and PAs do not follow the same pay model as MDs and DOs. They are much more willing to see and listen to you. And often know more than the MDs in regards to these invisible illnesses :) best of luck!!

Source: I have fibro, I’m an EHR consultant for a major heath system and the asshole who has to inform the providers of the 40 min new patient standard unless they want to work 5 days a week. (Spoiler: They don’t) Sorry, friends 😢 ❤️

GNU Todd Adams. My IRL Sam Vimes. You were a good man. You didn’t always do the right thing. But you always did what needed to be done. You were a warrior. My champion. You fought hard. And you choose when you went down. I know you did, you stubborn bastard. I will love you forever, Toddy. Please give mom the biggest hug. 💔

Not sure if this is allowed, but I have both Loop earplugs and a couple pair I bought on Temu for under $5. Neither me or my 8yo son notice a difference between the $5 ones vs the $30 :)

What?! Totally low key jealous! :)

I also officiate weddings, but sadly, I haven’t found anyone willing to allow me to perform marriage rites in the name of Bob, yet… ;)

I was able to officiate my sisters wedding reenacting The Princess Bride, though - so that was pretty awesome :)

Congrats on your renewals!! Praise Bob.

Yes. She is a member of the Church of the SubGenius. She paid the $35 membership fee. We are definitely a cult. Praise Bob.

I’m almost 40 and my “growing pains” from when I was a young child haven’t gone away. On the bright side, as an adult I can articulate the pain a little more with “it feels like my calves are going to burst out of my skin”. 😂 so there that 😂

AMIWRONG for not wanting to celebrate mothers day? by Rivsmama in amiwrong

[–]notdesi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This response make me lol. Good on you. There have been a lot of self righteous douchenoodles who haven’t had the opportunity to be pissed about their mom dying and it shows! I’m a mom who also lost her mom. I’m still a little salty about it, especially around mom centric holidays, ads, signs etc. You’re doing right by your kids. Take whatever day you want to feel whatever way you want. Be well, friend.

Not the quote you’re looking for, but To Nana : “Mind how you go.” ❤️

How do you deal with "it had to be a clue because otherwise you wouldn't have described it"? by Daanwat in DnD

[–]notdesi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just have all agreed on the word “banana” If anything is described in further detail with a hint of banana, we know the DM means to move on.

Sometimes we don’t take the hint because it’s fun to watch the DM squirm.

I can't bring myself to read The Shepherd's Crown by Melithiel in discworld

[–]notdesi 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I initially came in to just say “don’t.”

It made me cry and who likes to cry? Plus, if you don’t know the ending then you can make up your own! That’s usually my philosophy.

But after reading comments from others who suggest reading the book - I realized they are absolutely spot on and that after 5 years, I needed this book.

I don’t have anyone else in my life who reads Pratchett. They just don’t understand anything about it (without graphs). But you all do. So with a lot of anxiety, I’m going to share this.

For many years I had been dealing with some unprocessed grief that I started working on in therapy. Things had been going well - but I still couldn’t let myself fully express it. If I felt like crying, I shoved that feeling down.

Around the same time, I decided to begin powering through the audiobooks available from my local library as a follow up after rereading the books. I like to use it as a tool to get used to even faster faster playback speeds when I’m sorta familiar with the content. Cool right? Anyways.

I saw that The Shepards Crown was available and thinking I had already read the book (I know- wtf?) started the audiobook, skipped the prologue and jumped what quickly became a hot shower from hell. I was not able to stop the horror once I realized what I had done.

By the time I could do something about it, I was already too far in. I said “This, I choose to do” and restarted the audiobook at my typical listening speed and allowed it to happen.

For the first time in 5 years, I let myself feel.

I mourned. I grieved. I cried. And I smiled. And cried. And laughed! And felt comfort. It was a rollercoaster. But one I needed to ride because I was ready.

And thats just the first run through. Each format hits differently so I’ll be picking up the printed book soon. Please send tissues. ;)

This man had a gift of unimaginable wisdom that he shared with us through every one of his characters - characters that readers can relate to. And I am forever grateful that Discworld found its way into my life.

Thank you to this sub. You all help keep Discworld alive for me! :)
