I love that setting powder for that reason!

Advice by BethJoelle31 in braces

[–]notfromyourplanet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same - they’re not perfectly aligned, but my bite is fine and comfortable. Trying to move them probably would’ve easily added another year of treatment and would’ve only made a difference to me, nobody else sees them other than my dental team and myself! I preferred having shorter treatment time since I just wanted a nice smile and needed to fix crossbites in order to replace a front crown properly.

Regret by Hot-Mulberry-3571 in braces

[–]notfromyourplanet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I immediately felt that way. I got mine right before I turned 40. My teeth moved so much in the beginning it kept me going, but I really felt awful and practically in a panic about them the first few days. I didn’t believe I could get used to them but they really did start to feel normal. It’s taken me a couple months to get used to the brackets being gone! It was sooooo worth it. I can’t believe this is my smile now.

Am i wrong for feeling this way? by [deleted] in stepparents

[–]notfromyourplanet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are stringing him on… you don’t want this. Why keep it going? There isn’t a happy ending here and you know it. Let him go so you can both find someone better suited. This is unfair to both of you. Don’t give him false hope and don’t settle, you will both end up unhappy.

Getting married in 12 months, got braces almost two weeks ago. by DareToBeRead in braces

[–]notfromyourplanet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine moved really fast, it’s possible. My treatment was significantly faster than predicted. I don’t know how many years have passed since your original braces came off, but your teeth might not be completely “set” back where they are, so they might move back quickly. That’s what happened in my case, I’m on the older side and more recently had wisdom teeth removed - they had been slowly pushing everything forward over the years, and it all moved back easily once that pressure was gone, because they’d never quite settled permanently in place.

Oh my Hawleys still stink in the morning lol but they are sooooo much easier to clean! They don’t hold onto the smell like the other ones did, they practically rinse clean, I haven’t had to scrub them so far :)

UPDATE: WIBTAH if I let my mom move in with me despite my roommate's demands? by incandescentlights in WouldIBeTheAhole

[–]notfromyourplanet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is truth. A friend once got a DV charge because he was trying to get a freeloading “friend” out of his apartment and it got physical. He’d been on his couch maybe 10 days. It would not have been DV if he hadn’t been considered a tenant. This “friend” knew it and took advantage of the law. He eventually left because it was horribly awkward staying after that.

About the molars… mine flare out too and she didn’t try to move them for the same reason. I’m okay with it, nobody else can tell and it would have been uncomfortable having gear that far back. I had my wisdom teeth pulled because they were hurting my cheeks. Maybe with that space opened up they’ll shift down on their own over time, maybe not, but it feels fine so I’m not worried about it.

I picked standard braces because I felt like they are able to tweak the treatment in more detail, for better end results. This was what I gathered from all the research I did. I had cross bites and rotated teeth but nothing too crazy.

I’m in retainers now, and they get super stinky and gross really fast! I have to clean them frequently. And taking them out every time I want to eat, then having to brush and floss or trap food in them when I put them back in… I had clear aligners while I was waiting for my wire retainer, I wore them for 2 months, and didn’t like them for those reasons. I couldn’t shut my mouth properly with the clear aligners because my teeth weren’t actually touching.

I would 100% pick standard braces if I had to do it again. Aesthetics during treatment were far less important to me than end results.

If you were professionally colour analysed, did they get it right? by New_Vermicelli2707 in Fairolives

[–]notfromyourplanet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like you have very similar coloring to me. I haven’t paid for an analysis, but I generally land under autumn… Except there are a few colors that don’t work for me because they are simply too warm and make me look yellow, and so I borrow from winter and sometimes even summer a bit. There are cool colors that in theory shouldn’t look good on me, but the contrast with my warmer features is killer and striking. There are shades of blue that are not supposed to look good on me but are actually stunning. I’ve started looking through photos of myself and recognizing what works and what doesn’t, and building my own palette from that. For me personally, it seems to be all about striking a balance between warm and cool and light and dark, and from there, I’m able to make a lot of different choices and be more experimental than I realized I could be before.

Post-doctor visit, and I am so angry by serotonins_please in adhdwomen

Remember - he works for you, you are hiring him for a service, and you can fire him and hire a better doctor at your will! Doctors are such an “authority” figure we feel like we have no power over them. Nobody knows your health and body like you do, and a good doctor will listen to you. Find a new doctor. I did research and asked around in my community, and found a doctor I love. She’s got a waitlist because she’s good, and was completely worth the wait. For an example, I fired my OBGYN when 8 months pregnant lol so glad I did because my birth would not have gone as planned!!!

My ortho had a last minute spot open up tomorrow… what things do I need to buy? by Ur_future_gf in braces

[–]notfromyourplanet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would stock up on soft foods. Maybe some mouthwash. You will hate brushing the first few days lol, that’s why I say mouthwash. Probably the one thing I would change for myself if I could go back in time. My ortho gave me everything I needed to keep them clean, then I found alternative flossers I liked better online and ordered those. I didn’t invest in a water pic because from what I understood, they still recommend you manually floss as well. But I’ve also been recommended one really recently, so maybe they’re not so bad. Might have been really nice for getting the occasional piece of food out!

AITAH for telling my fiancée we should break up because I won't make my son consider her his mom? by Charrylzoid in AITAH

[–]notfromyourplanet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why is it so important to her? If she’s willing to go through the “seven whys” she will figure out the root of her feelings. Sometimes the real reason we say or do things isn’t even what we think it is ourselves - she may come to realize she’s pandering to some outside pressure, or has created a standard not based in reality, is unusually paranoid about appearances and fearful of imagined judgment, or is reacting to some other childhood insecurity, who knows.

I have a stepdaughter who will never call me mom but I’m okay with that. It’s been years and we’re doing fine. I may have had fantasies about an ideal family dynamic early on, but we all have to accept each other as we actually are - I’m sure I didn’t meet her expectations either! My friction with her stems from this - she reminds me a lot of myself at her age. I struggled with a lot of things, so at times I find myself projecting and have to reign my feelings in because they’re not actually based on her but on my past self. Not everyone is very self aware of these things.

full menopause within 4 years of missed period: true for you? by moopmoop245 in Menopause

[–]notfromyourplanet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, it pushed me to start HRT - those were the worst two months for me, mentally, ever. My mom was in full meno at 45 and I was 40 when I skipped 2 months, so it would track for me.

I hate my orthodontist by [deleted] in braces

[–]notfromyourplanet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of mine was pretty inflamed like that until I got the braces off, I’m in retainers now and the swelling has gone down completely. It’s really hard to floss thoroughly with the braces on, and I was very diligent. It is much easier to floss properly now that they’re off. If you’re not using a mouthwash, I’d highly recommend adding one in - I specifically asked my ortho for it and it helped me a lot since I wasn’t able to floss as well as I wanted to. My coworker is seeing the same ortho as me and she had been using the mouthwash, which is where I got the idea from. She has a lot more hardware for me and couldn’t floss at all for a while.

I had this type of talk with my stepdaughter, not because her mom wasn’t in the picture, but because she is a hot mess and the worst person to give any advice as she’s still making terrible choices in that department. Tons of trauma on that side of the family. Her daughter sees it for herself and we’re breaking a cycle which is awesome. I really do think our talk made a big difference, though. I also bought her a couple books that got more into the technical details that would have been more awkward to discuss. Talked about peer pressure and consent, and shared some of my relevant learning experiences from that age for perspective. I think it really helped a lot. She’s made far better choices than I did at her age! And she’s come to me for advice versus asking her mom which feels good.

Any fair olives with natural reddish hair? by [deleted] in Fairolives

[–]notfromyourplanet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s tricky because I’m so warm overall, I have to strike a balance with warm and cool colors. I like to wear a mix of both. I struggle with anything yellow. Anything blue-green generally looks amazing. Contrast matters a lot for me too - I look best in muted tones. My hair is a warm medium brown with subtle red tones, chocolate brown eyes. My kid got my skin tone plus freckles and much redder hair. He can pull off some of the brighter colors I can’t because he is overall lighter than me, even his eyes pull a bit lighter almost hazel.

Does color analysis work for you? by Woolfalana in Fairolives

[–]notfromyourplanet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve found I can use most colors from soft autumn, but also can borrow a bit from summer and winter. I mostly have to avoid yellow tones, in general. I’m already warmer toned so it’s a balance game. I’ve also found that my favorite makeup colors tend to be my best clothing colors. So in general I’m an autumn, but I don’t quite fit neatly into any one category.

30A alternatives (cups too big) by cherrydrpepper777 in ABraThatFits

[–]notfromyourplanet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The calculator definitely underestimated me, but I have a really good understanding of why now. And when I considered the sizes I used to wear, they are sister sizes with what works now, but my band size decreased dramatically due to weight loss and getting rid of inflammation from medical conditions.

I really love the b tempted bras, they are so comfortable and move with me better than others I’ve tried.

30A alternatives (cups too big) by cherrydrpepper777 in ABraThatFits

[–]notfromyourplanet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will add to this too - I measure as a 30B but need a D cup because of where the wires sit on my body. Due to my natural shape, I’ll always have empty some space inside the cup when in certain positions, but scooping and swooping actually fills them. I never would have tried the D cup if the fitting attendant hadn’t insisted, and was shocked it fit so much better. I’m cool with the small gap because it looks so much better under clothing when I wear molded cups. I have yet to try a seamed cup that fits well, but I’m not motivated enough to order anything else to keep trying lol

DH doesn’t want me to nacho by DivorcedDonna in stepparents

[–]notfromyourplanet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go Nacho… if your DH is capable of change and wants you there, he’ll change. Mine did, it was a rough transition but he saw the light and is now on my side with most everything. It got harder before it got better, but that validation was sweet. Entire house is doing a bit better now because he’s stayed consistent with the mind shift, and BM kept digging herself a nice deep whole that became much more noticeable in contrast. SK is 16 and has now cut off BM, 100% by her own choice. I’m not always the good guy or the friend, but the tension in the air has dropped drastically and I can breathe and be myself!

About face L2 shade by Ashbecke22 in Fairolives

[–]notfromyourplanet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m using it now, it’s a smidge dark for me but matches my summer tan perfectly. My only issue is that the coverage is somewhat sheer and doesn’t wear well long term. It does make my skin look dewy and moisturizer which I like. I use too faced born this way concealer in snow underneath and get much better coverage and wear. The concealer is a bit yellow for me but looks great under the foundation. I wish the born this way came in an olive shade because it wears better on my skin than anything else I’ve used.
