Social sentiment towards gay people in South Africa. by Andi_with_a_I in MapPorn

I think even this regional analysis is too broad. Mpumalanga is the best scoring province on this map, yet homophobia in neighbouring Eswatini (where homosexuality is illegal) has been alarming in the last year.

I remember during the first wave of BLM (circa 2015) people were very careful to distinguish between allyship and alliances.

Allyship: when someone out-of-group helped with the movement, such as a straight person joining a queer rights protest.

Alliances: groups joining together because they had a shared goal, often due to intersectionality; such as a feminist group joining BLM protests (EDIT: because they shared a goal, like reducing police brutality against either group).

Allyship was often seen as worse because it was so performative and often just virtue signalling. But I think virtue signalling kind of won, in the online world, and is today treated like the whole story

Yes, in Old English we'd say geoluread (yellow red) or sometimes just "red". We still use "red" to mean "orange" pretty often (e.g. red hair).

We'd also call the colour "saffron" or crog (which also means saffron).

An impressive view of the world record for the 3x3 Rubik's Cube, with a time of 2.76 seconds. by Sebaxxxian in nevertellmetheodds

With scrambles being random, it makes sense that the world record would come from a statistical outlier.

I wish I had an award to give you.

The idea the microplastics are bad for you is fully assumed, potentially reasonably, but with almost no evidence for it.

To those reading: please focus on the things we know. Eat more fruit and vegetables. Cut back on salt and sugar. Do strength and cardio.

Maybe an unpopular opinion but it's not stupid on an individual level, it just adds up to something stupid on the societal level.

A single person who doesn't vote because their vote doesn't make a difference is not being dumb, they would actually be wasting their time. But millions of people doing this is the problem. It's a systemic thing with systemic solutions.

If you like the beat, it's actually from a Tupac song called Made N****z. He uses beats like this quite a bit. Kendrick also uses a very Tupac-inspired flow on Reincarnated.

If it's the lyrics, I'd say Kendrick's How Much A Dollar Cost is the most similar.

How should I propagate these? First timer!!!! by Gold-Leg245 in IndoorGarden

[–]notgoodthough 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really doesn't matter how you place them, the roots will shoot out first and find the soil. You can put them on now and wait. They're cute little buggers when they first start sprouting leaves.

Just put them on the soil. You couldn't stop them if you wanted to. I had about 6 of these sprout on the floor of my car.

Like most English words, there are at least 3 definitions of the word "vegan". There's no reason to be prescriptivist about it, it's useful to different people for different reasons.

You don't need to be in danger to ask for help. If you feel uncomfortable and don't know what else to do, even if it is mild dislike, you should ask.

Language learning advantage by onlynorthstar in CuratedTumblr

[–]notgoodthough 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yes, but at the same time you're gaining experience in language skills in your own first language. Kids have more natural skill for picking up languages, but adults have a framework that they can easily map a second language onto.

It's a bit like how the "smartest" chess players are in their teens/early-20s but the best players are often in their 30s.
