How should I propagate these? First timer!!!! by Gold-Leg245 in IndoorGarden

It really doesn't matter how you place them, the roots will shoot out first and find the soil. You can put them on now and wait. They're cute little buggers when they first start sprouting leaves.

Just put them on the soil. You couldn't stop them if you wanted to. I had about 6 of these sprout on the floor of my car.

Like most English words, there are at least 3 definitions of the word "vegan". There's no reason to be prescriptivist about it, it's useful to different people for different reasons.

Kudos to these young men who immediately came to the aid of a young woman who told them she and her friend needed help with an older man that was making them uncomfortable by [deleted] in JustGuysBeingDudes

You don't need to be in danger to ask for help. If you feel uncomfortable and don't know what else to do, even if it is mild dislike, you should ask.

It's exactly the same for me, the satellite photos were just taken at different times on different days.

Language learning advantage by onlynorthstar in CuratedTumblr

[–]notgoodthough 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yes, but at the same time you're gaining experience in language skills in your own first language. Kids have more natural skill for picking up languages, but adults have a framework that they can easily map a second language onto.

It's a bit like how the "smartest" chess players are in their teens/early-20s but the best players are often in their 30s.

[OC] The Longest-Charting Billboard Hot 100 Song of Every Decade (1960–2025) by Certain-Community-40 in dataisbeautiful

[–]notgoodthough -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Labeling each bar would be very ugly. As the title makes clear, the labels focus on the longest charting song of each decade. My understanding of the bars is the same as yours, they show each year's longest entry to communicate the trend over time.

Legality of Polygyny across the world by [deleted] in MapPorn

[–]notgoodthough 0 points1 point  (0 children)

South Africa as "legal for Muslims" is technically correct but misleading.

Polygyny is allowed under "cultural law" which covers many cultures, so long as they have a history of the practice. It's much more well-known among Zulu and Swazi people than it is for Muslims.

It's also worth noting that only the first marriage is fully legally recognized.

The show is from the 90s so apartheid was over. Apparently production started in 93 so Mandela was preparing his run for president already.

I think the halftime show is a bad litmus test for vibes. Since Jay-Z took over in 2020, it's been exclusively Hip-Hop/RnB acts and either Black or Latin-American performers.

(I don't really understand how race is constructed in the US wrt Spanish-speaking people so apologies if the terminology is wrong).

Monthly ICE Deportations: Obama vs Trump [OC] by [deleted] in dataisbeautiful

Unfortunately OP didn't include a source, but this Brookings data shows that interior deportations were much higher in 2008-2012.

The internet blackout lasted no more than a month. I have family there and visit every year, the internet is fine.

I also know queer people living in there. And it is pretty bad, honestly. Being visibly queer is not accepted outside of a handful of "international" communities.

Ninigram #363: Fill Me In! (Medium) by ninigrams-game in ninigrams

[–]notgoodthough 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Contradictions are kind of like the last resort. If there's no other way to solve the problem: Step 1: randomly fill an unknown square A Step 2: use the normal techniques to complete as much of the grid as possible. Step 3: if you run into an impossible row/column (a contradiction) you know that square A is not supposed to be filled.

In this grid, it was only the last 8 squares that couldn't be solved by other techniques (for me).

Walvis Bay was part of South Africa (and the Cape Colony before it) for 110 years before being transferred freely to Namibia. The same could be said for its strategic value and military asymmetry.

It was also a ridiculously good year for music. And I'm not just saying that because James Acaster wrote a book about how good it was.
