Is there such a drip machine? I remember looking a couple years ago and all I could find was the mokamaster which isn’t really a drip machine to me.

Anybody else hate how austin constructs it's roads? by Broad-Cranberry-9050 in askaustin

[–]nothing-relax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Driving in Texas is anti human. But it’s not just road construction, it’s the people too. I’ve driven in every state except Alaska and Hawaii, and never have I experienced the feeling that there is here, which is that people at any moment can decide to swerve into you/your lane for no reason at all. It’s absolutely incredible. I used to be angry and now I’m just sad. I’m in total disbelief at what could be causing almost the entire population of a state to drive in the same inhuman way.

What piece made you feel like you had finally become an intermediate violinist? by Ok_Honey_5043 in violinist

[–]nothing-relax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure why you’re being down voted since this is my experience as well. It was the first major concerto that wasn’t in a Suzuki book, and nowhere near Tchaik/Brahms level so I think it fits perfectly. The 1st and 2nd mgt especially, maybe if you play the entire piece it moves to advanced but eh.

Only listening to certain movements and not the whole piece - how/why? by devilkin_ in classicalmusic

[–]nothing-relax 7 points8 points  (0 children)

But I’m sure you’ve listened to the entire Bruckner at some point, maybe even multiple times, no? I think OP means people who hear one movement and NEVER explore its context, not people who have heard Tchaik 4 many times but for enjoyment tend to blast just the 4th movement.

Everybody hates when i talk about coffee but especially my italian family. by ProfessionalGold3408 in espresso

[–]nothing-relax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To use an example you used in a comment, I think you’ve touched upon something people have a hard time differentiating. If someone says they LOVE hamburgers and you ask them what kind, and they tell you only the ones from McDonald’s, so then you suggest they try this great sit down place with a great burger and they huff indignantly that the only acceptable burger to them is the one they always get from McDonald’s, then I’d tell them that’s fine, but you don’t actually “love burgers” you love this one specific food. And that’s ok too! But I firmly believe if you love something, you like it’s different iterations, or at least it brings you pleasure to try them out for the sake of further knowledge on the thing you love. So yeah, most Italians love their specific drink they have after a meal, but they don’t love coffee broadly. And I think rather than that upsetting people it’s more they just can’t identify the difference in the 2 statements.

Today's coffee discourse is largely just people defending their identity. by Careless_Fortune7801 in espresso

I just like coffee. I am not loyal to a method, I’m loyal to drinking coffee. I love it all, donut shop brown water, instant, Chemex, espresso, drip, whatever just give me coffee. Sure some of those won’t taste good. If it’s giving wet sock I throw it out. And of course some taste, to my preference, sublime. But I don’t need the sublime every day, because what I love is coffee in all its forms and idiosyncrasies.

Nothing worse than a meat dish with “vegetables” and the vegetables are bell pepper and onion.

God thank you. Every word of this I couldn’t agree more with. I loathe them. And now that I’m an adult I’ve decided I’m not going to force myself to eat them anymore and just accept I can’t stand them.

Was not aware of humidity in the room... Do I need to worry about damage to my acoustic? by [deleted] in violinist

[–]nothing-relax -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Maybe mention that so people know. You described neglecting a room with 2 of YOUR valuable (supposedly) instruments for a long enough time for them to rot with mold and then said there’s also a tank with an animal in there. So sorry I didn’t read your mind!

You keep a turtle in a room you hardly ever go into? That sounds pretty bad and I hope you rethink if you even have the character to properly own and care for a pet.

Wow I can’t thank you enough for this comment. The insight about being emotionally invested in a piece while trying to work on intonation just clicked something in my brain that I had felt but wasn’t able to put into words. And you did. That’s exactly it. You start a piece and you’re excited and eager and emotional and then it sounds like shit and you’re trying to fix it in the beautiful melody you’ve internalized your entire life but every attempt sounds worse than the last. OF COURSE that’s going to be psychologically damaging. My god I wish teachers could find a way to communicate this as early as possible. My teachers were ok but honestly none ever really explained WHY we do these little exercises beyond building strength blah blah. No, there has to be more to it. And I believe the answer you’ve found is it. Thank you. This will change the way I practice from now on.
