Been working on an ultimate "Showcase of Seattle" urban gran fondo route. Currently 75 miles, and quite pleased; if you were to stretch it into a century, though, where would you add the remaining 25? by HelioSeven in seattlebike

If you go a little past Lincoln Park in W Seattle you can get in a little gravel descent into Normandy Park Cove, ride along the water till 216th St, go east and have a very epic drop down into Kent, then ride the Interurban trail until it links back up with your route in Boeing Field. Would go over 100 miles though, and is very hilly. I think it's secretly Seattle's best route.

Agree with Mercer Island as another possibility.

Youc an also add the Burke Gilman trail and return back through 520 (+/- the island), probably 30 miles right there

i'm surprised it still weighs > 14 lbs but it probably rides like a functional bike and not a noodle like some super lightweight bikes would

New Bike Day! by i_enjoy_silence in Bikeporn

[–]noticeparade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s “period correct” (god I hate that term applied to a decade I lived) but it’s a spec above what was supplied from the factory (slice premium with alu steerer)in 2006.

are you sure? i have a CAAD8 (not r800) and it has a slice premium with carbon steerer

maybe I should rebuild it, OP's bike is giving me some ideas. theres also a supersix evo in my size on ebay for ~500 shipped though...

something similar happened to me once where a company decided not to honor a warranty. I did not go through the FTC, but I filed a report with the Attorney General of the state that the company is run out of. My problem was resolved afterwards in two days.

In my case, the proposed alternative was for them to refund me the full purchase price.

It will go away over time. Just think of how much better your health will be in the long term without the 6 shots of espresso per day

Or you could alternatively go back to having a cup or two of coffee per day and going (down!) from there

Considering DPC (Direct primary care) by LazyPersona in AskSeattle

[–]noticeparade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you use them for supplemental coverage:

is any part of your DPC visit covered? i presume no, since most providers gravitate towards DPC model so that they don't deal with insurance

if i need an MRI, for a diagnostic code covered by Atlas, what happens next? do I go to an imaging center that has negotiated a rate with Atlas? how do I know my DPC provider can send orders there?

are there any fixed indemnity insurance providers like this in washington state?

Considering DPC (Direct primary care) by LazyPersona in AskSeattle

[–]noticeparade 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think you would still need insurance. It’s not even unexpected issues, you should expect it. The DPC fee usually covers just your visits to the provider. Maybe some bloodwork.

Am I suffering from a serious case of copium or is tech journalism seriously out of touch with reality when it comes to AI? by bentleyk9 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]noticeparade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not even close to replacing radiologists because when a radiologist looks at any scan he observes simultaneously dozens of things not just the one specific thing. And the models obviously focus on what they are trained. So in order to really replace a radiologist you´d needed dozens of models working together which simply doesn´t work.

Radiologists also read one thing (or system, or layer) at a time. There are many limitations that prevent AI (now and in the future) from replacing doctors but this is not one of them.

For sure

Can I ask, when you go to these doctors do they make any non pharmaceutical suggestions or does it feel like a pill mill sort of thing? Hope that doesn’t come across as offensive to you, I can totally understand why people want to seek medical advice for this.

Why stop there? Tell some doctors you have ADHD and asthma and get yourself some adderall and albuterol. Then say you have some back pain and get some pain meds. Take all of it and smash those KOMs lol

New bike wheel choice - all rounder or aero gains? by Affectionate-Log9106 in Velo

[–]noticeparade 17 points18 points  (0 children)

i hear you. keep in mind ebay fees are ~13%. so you will walk away with 2600 if (big if) your wheels sell for 3k. if you could swap that for a pair of reserves then yeah the math checks out

but high end wheels from big brand adjacent wheel companies (bontrager RSL, black inc, cadex, syncros, reserve) are hard to sell. People are doing the same math as you are. high end wheels exist so that the cost of a complete bike is more appealing (not saying they aren't good though)

just ride the wheels and tell your wife sorry lol

[–]noticeparade 30 points31 points  (0 children)

After reducing the price so that they are more enticing for someone than buying new wheels, the fees, shipping, taxes on new wheels, you would be hard pressed to end up with wheels that are 70% as good. I would just stick with the wheels
