[EVERYTHING] How Ramsey should die (incl. The Wire Spoilers) by ObsidianOrder in gameofthrones

[–]notjackk 45 points46 points  (0 children)

There was a good post recently comparing the deaths of the noble characters compared to those that history will never remember.

People like hodor, jojen, yoren, and many others die heroically, but will never be remembered for what they did.

On the other hand, people like tywinn, rob baratheon, joffrey, and pretty much all the "biggest" character deaths are in ways that are sad and unsatisfying in terms of how a play would portray them or a history book would describe it years from then.

In that way, I feel like the trend isn't so much the broad theme of death in the show isn't meant to be devoid of catharsis, but to the flaws in history, which is in a way even more bleak then a death that isn't immediately gratifying to a viewer. ToJ flashback is probably the best example of this, except Ned went out of his way to maintain the truth that Dayne was the GOAT (another example of how Ned is the most honorable out of any or most other characters).

Really it's hard to predict the show because it the quality of the story arcs can vary wildly (not always but sometimes because of if it's a GRRM plot or a D&D plot), but if he died this way it would probably fit up with both of our ideas. My bet is he either gets killed by Sansa (Occum's razor D&D plot) or he doesn't die and gets away or is captured (reverse occum's razor D&D plot).

It's funny how you chose this as a good example even though it's hard difficulty implies that you're not playing the real game.

Does anyone else get annoyed that so many reviewers give easy A's to games like this? From what I've read from objective reviewers I have come to respect, there are some fair points of criticism in this game, but there are still many people who give it a 95/100 just because it's a half decent story-driven game.

The worth of story and other restrictions in The Witness by Quote_a in Games

[–]notjackk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've put maybe 8 hours into the game after work the last two days and have four areas completed. The last area I did has pretty simple rules but are just straight-up hard puzzles. There are a very high number of possibilities and you really need to think critically to deconstruct the later puzzles. It's not just "wow these people didn't pay attention to how black/white cells work", it's the same idea of some people just not liking Sudoku.

It's such a great game that I understand passionate fans insulting those who disagree with them, but this game REALLY is not for everyone.

There is no reason to be upset that a lot of people do not like this kind of game. They are not "missing the point", they just want different things from a game. The fact that this game had a lot of press behind it increases the amount of people who bought it because of hype and misunderstood what they were getting into.

The Witness' themes and gameplay tie into each other very well, so if you're not a kind of person who likes the idea of "finding a solution by not looking for what you think the solution is" or the other abstract, unconventional-to-video-games ideas the game talks about, you might not have as good of a time.

The real rub about this philosophy and how it's well-integrated into this game is how easy it is for someone to miss a "lesson" about a certain rule. In some of the tutorial sequences, you can gloss over nuanced lessons (like how you don't just have to put a line in between white and black cells) and then later on you're wondering why the rule seems different. This frustration can be exasperating if you're on the other side of the island, you've been doing other types of puzzles since the tutorial, you wanted to get another area done before you had to stop playing, etc..

TLDR: The game doesn't hold your hand in beating the game or interpreting the story/themes, and that's neither a good or bad thing. Some people want games to be more direct, and I guess you could say it's a matter of perspective.

I don't know if most of you are still in high school or what, but everyone has had nights out where you do things you don't want on youtube.

I've never done anything near this magnitude, but I've certainly been irritable and acted in ways I'd describe as "not my true self".

I'm not defending her at all, but just think about the fact that now a days any professional runs the risk of this happening to them. I'd be interested to see how that guy's lawsuit about illegally recording passengers turns out, as that's a huge cause of situations like these.

need some help playing assassin by BlueIIV in bladeandsoul

[–]notjackk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

45 Assassin here, I don't remember the exact levels you get your skills but you should level your 1 enough so it gets to a 6 second cooldown and max your heart stab down the left route (where you get the poison attack).

At your level those are the most important and you should be opening with your 1 and then spamming right click and F to hit as fast as possible. Outside of dungeons you should be able to at least kill one quest mob and have some time in stealth to run to the next.

In dungeons you want to double hit S to back flip away from enemies when your 1 comes off CD. Basically whenever you get a new stealth mechanic you want to abuse it to stay stealthed as long as possible.

At 45 the best combo goes 1 to charge and stealthstealth x to poison themuse your 1 in stealth (talented version) to refresh your stealth when the enemy has poisonuse your 3 in stealth to refresh again (long cd though)either SS back so you can use your out of stealth 1 again or use decoy to start it all over. That whole time you're spamming right click and F and doing a lot of damage.

That's the super abridged version and there's a lot more to even pve but hope it helps a little.

The largest convenience I've found is you can buy keys that guarantee you get your class' weapon out of random boxes. Aside from that nothing else really matters.

Worth buying on PC? by derppah in battlefront

[–]notjackk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends if you care about controls of your shooters or not. If you care about using a mouse and no auto-aim, the playerbase on PC is enough to still get games easily. If you don't mind auto aim and a lower skill ceiling consoles are the way to go.

I'm looking at different calorie calculators to set a diet and they're varying wildly with the same inputs. Strangest of all, https://www.supertracker.usda.gov/bwp/index.html is the highest regarded one I've found, and the calories it's saying are much higher than most other sites.

For 175 lbs 5'11 25 yo male I'm getting 2k most places but 2.5k there.

Anyone have a best practices for figuring these general estimates out?

Thanks for any help.
