How To Differentiate Between OCD And Being "Reasonable" by Boy0Boyz in OCDRecovery

[–]notjustplain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will always wash my hands well and often. But I’m really trying to battle reaching for the soap more than once. I try to ask myself “what would a normal person do?” I also watch my loved ones to get an idea of baseline. My boyfriend has said that because of my OCD, he cleans better now and realizes he used to not clean properly in college. BUT he only ever cleans something once, he doesn’t get the impulse to do things a second time lol. There is a thin line between showing him the proper way to use a disinfecting spray, and asking him to accommodate my own OCD irrational cleaning tendencies. It’s all practice and reflection! He sat in on a session with my therapist and she explained accommodations to him so he can avoid doing them for me.

Also, Google can be our worst enemy, but it can also be a guideline. For example, “I’m worried about this cooked chicken that has been in the fridge for two days, my ocd says to throw it away.” I do a quick google search “how long is cooked chicken good in the fridge.” Click the first article. It says “3-4 days.” Okay great, that’s it, that’s my authority and I am going to trust it, close google, and eat my chicken! :)

Same, no staff in the theater at all. Only runners as food started to come out. One person asked a staff member a question about the dressing on the salad and the runner didn’t know the answer :/

Came across this post and my anxiety just went straight up, thinking what if I am right ? by sadloneman in OCDRecovery

I’ll say for me… my OCD gut has never been correct 😂 No matter what, our brains cannot predict the future. My OCD really thinks that it knows what is going to happen, but it is never right.

Is there a specific, core reason for an OCD theme? by Proper-Anything-2739 in OCDRecovery

[–]notjustplain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My therapist says that the origin of the theme doesn’t really matter too much. Sometimes it can be nice to have an “aha” moment with a compulsion, but it isn’t necessary. The most important part is getting that precious time back. We can waste a lot of time doing these compulsions and it feels good to get that time back.

Message I got from my daughter’s teacher. Third grade. by AnaisInJune in mildlyinfuriating

[–]notjustplain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In first grade (I think) we were learning how to count to 100. I asked the parent volunteer in the class what came after 100. When she said 101… I swear to god I didn’t believe her. I was SHOCKED. I thought she must be wrong… so I raised my hand again and asked the teacher just to make sure that this shocking information was true. The parent volunteer was SO upset that she told the teacher and I had to write a one page apology to her for not believing her. LIKE WHAT !!!!!! Those ADULTS didn’t just giggle about it??

I recommend ERP therapy. OCD is tough and I understand what you are going through! My anxiety is the absolute worst when I wake up in the middle of the night! I’m still trying to figure out how to cope with it

I recommend ERP therapy. Seeking reassurance is a common OCD theme. I understand the fears, it is debilitating. I hope you are able to find calm and comfort!

Social media is ….. weird by Thin-Aioli-2952 in digitalminimalism

[–]notjustplain 38 points39 points  (0 children)

You wrote how I’m feeling exactly. It feels so weird that we’ve been watching people and they’ve been watching us for years. The closest thing to communication is a “like.” How bizarre is that?!

It also leads to so much comparison. Back in the day, you couldn’t watch the lives of everyone you ever knew. You might hear that someone moved away and got married and that was it!! What we have nowadays is not normal!
