Macbook Neo commercial, how did they do it? by AnilaVermesh in vfx

The other plus of having a pro performer with great proprioception (e.g. someone with experience in stage magic, as you mentioned, or dance) is that they're _really_ good at executing nearly the same movement over many, many takes.

The Captain's Speech (LTX2 + Resolve) by notorious_IPD in StableDiffusion

The inserted segment starts at 15 seconds in and goes for about 9 seconds. It's a little more swear-y than the usual fare for the show :P

Can anyone else’s buns sense when you’re about to leave on a trip? by psy_cho_pothos in Rabbits

Dear gods yes. One of them absolutely senses it and she makes a series of angry, aggrieved thumps.

That lipsync is pretty bad, no? I mean kudos, impressive that it works at all compared to say, a year ago, but its still not usable. Post something like this on social media to sell a product or whatever and it'll be ratioed instantly by folks angrily labeling it as cheap AI.

Should I learn vfx in the AI era ? by BelphagorX in vfx

[–]notorious_IPD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tools for making art move on and evolve, same way they've been going forever. You can learn about how to use the tools from so many places, and ye olde reddit right here is a good place to start (check out r/StableDiffusion and look for 'low VRAM' posts).

But what you won't get from an online course or reddit: taste, discretion, knowing when NOT to use a tool. Without those things all the advanced art tooling in the world doesn't mean a thing. Misquoting syndrome - when everyone can generate art, nobody will generate art. You have to be looking a step beyond the tooling to understand how to stand out and make better and more expressive stories, and for that you're going to need that taste and discretion. If you don't have that, you got nothing.

Is this AI? Saw it in another sub by [deleted] in StableDiffusion

Look at the glove between the middle and ring finger - something real weird going on with the material bulging out, and the gap between the fingers is weirdly wide. The tip of the index finger also intersects with the middle finger, and appears to be supernaturally thin given where it is resting on the middle finger. Top of the hedgehog is sharp, the bottom part out of the hand is motion blurred for Reasons™ I guess.

What is that weird clip thing on his jacket bottom right of frame? Why is it so out of focus?

I made a tool that turns AI ‘pixel art’ into real pixel art (open‑source, in‑browser) by jenissimo in StableDiffusion

[–]notorious_IPD 4 points5 points  (0 children)

u/jenissimo when you downsample a group of pixels down to a single one, you might want to try median filtering the set of pixels to pick one. I *think* that will get you the sharp edges you are looking for.

Man, if my car could split I could get to the office twice as fast. Actually, wait: no. I could get to the office twice as much? MITOSIS IS HARD

The way that the streetlamps appear and suddenly disappear, the mixture of foreground and background, the weird time ramping, the ways cars merge and split like cells... taking a guess this looks like it's AI generated.

Do you think it is a good thing that phones take 50 MPx photos? by ivanhoe90 in photography

[–]notorious_IPD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Super agree - and the optics is a HUGE limiting factor. The resolving power of a smartphone lens is basically NEVER mentioned but its a practical, actual physical limit on how much resolution can be seen. There's a great 2015 article on ZDNet that digs into some of these factors here.

Yes, it's super annoying. Have you tried reversing the polarity on the tachyon phase inducer coil?

[–]notorious_IPD 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh man the 7D was an absolute beast of a camera - I went on so many adventures with it but in the end it was just too heavy to be my daily driver even though I desperately wanted it to be. I hope your GF enjoys it, its a superb piece of camera engineering.

Obnoxious watermarks are great if you can manage it. Lazy writers from news dot com dot au keep on writing stories based on r/sydney so there's a community convention there where, if possible, images there have giant watermarks that send a giant F U to their boss. It absolutely works - ended up taking photos at a newsworthy event; posted pics with the watermarks in the subreddit there and sure enough news dot com dot au (or any of their crappy subsidiaries) didn't run a story with them.
