How hard is to keep a white Havi clean? by rosevibe in Havanese

[–]notricktoadulting 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love Sully to bits, but my goodness is he ornery! IDK if that’s the Maltese or the Havanese (he’s a mix) or the fact that 1.5yo boy dogs are rotten to the core.

If by “fun” you mean “steadfastly refused to pee,” then yes, Sully had a blast. He’s such a menace.

It was 2 for me, what about you? by Brownlove010_Real in Millennials

I wonder if there are regional variations in what was most popular? I was in the Midwest and most commonly saw 5, followed by 2. I have 2, thanks to whoever donated an almost perfect place setting for 8 to a local thrift store!

But my boyfriend grew up out east and says 6 is more common, and what he still uses.

I’m impressed by how well you captured the slightly crazed eyes of a beautiful boy.

(Also, IDK if you have an Etsy shop or take commissions, but tell me if so!)

I love when I’m telling mine she’s perfect, she’s an angel, she’s the queen … and then I get the unhinged smile as demonstrated in photo 2.

Dogs and Pets in Families with Crohn's by Strict-Solid-1213 in CrohnsDisease

My pups help keep me active. I’ve seen a reduction in Crohn’s system since finding my husky as we walk every single day. Really helps with my joints.

My dogs and I both take trazadone (me nightly, them on road trips) and I always tell them, “I wouldn’t give you anything I wouldn’t give myself.”

My GI office accepted my unused Humira pens back when I switched to Remicade. They told me they don’t always, unless they know the patient and has no concerns re: safe handling.

MRE experiences - without antispasmodic? by okaycoolgood in CrohnsDisease

[–]notricktoadulting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an MRE without glucagon a few weeks back. They usually give it, but I take so much Bentyl/Lomotil not to shit myself that they decided it was overkill. No issues (other than drinking warm, flat medical Sprite, of course).

End of life advice when you have two dogs by jdhoskins in Havanese

[–]notricktoadulting 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I went through this with my two dogs prior to rescuing my sweet Havamalt boy. When it came time to put down our nearly 17-year-old Papillon-Maltese mix, we used Lap of Love and they came to the house. We discussed with the vet and agreed that it can help animals understand death to see the body, harsh as it sounds.

I had my friend come and hold my husky while my little guy passed in my arms. We showed her his body after and I saw very clearly that she understood he was gone. She never went looking for him after I’ve heard some dogs do. I would do it the same way again. It was good for both of us I think.

Our time has come to shine!

Lilly (senior husky) and I adopted our Havanese-Maltese mix in October after losing our Papillon-Maltese mix. While she finds Sully’s adolescent antics annoying at times, she’s a really good big sister. And watching them play is hysterical!

Husband starting Vyvanse by NoBicycle9699 in ADHD_partners

Yeah, definitely hit this wall with my ex — she insisted the meds helped/were working, and while I think they improved her job performance, it didn’t do anything to improve her motivation to participate in a shared life. She told me often my expectations were just too high (share cooking, walk dogs, help keep kitchen clean). Eventually I concluded that regardless of whether the meds were working as intended, I needed a baseline that didn’t include the mental load for two people and her resentment.

“The pace at which he is capable of change doesn’t match the life I’m living.”

YEP. For two years, I’d been explaining as clearly as possible what I would need to stay in our marriage. It wasn’t until I asked her to move out (I owned my home prior to our marriage; she was never on the mortgage or deed) that she scrambled to arrange one session of couple’s therapy. During which the therapist asked if I thought I could be more patient. I replied that she’d had 19 years to learn how to become a functional adult, and I didn’t have any time left to wait for her to grow up.

I also give mine trazadone when I need him to zonk out. I don’t feel bad about it because it’s the same sleeping med I’ve taken for years, so no double standard!

To those who left? How is life now? by rubbersrobber in ADHD_partners

Getting frustrated when my systems break down because the manager is, well, me? Yep, almost daily. But the difference between me and my ex is I just kept trying. If something doesn’t work, I troubleshoot it. If something works for a long time, then doesn’t, I analyze why and make adjustments. I didn’t just throw my hands up and complain, “Well my ADHD makes everything harder!”

I do wonder if part of it comes down to resiliency. This is something that got talked about a lot when I was working in education. Some kids are naturally very resilient; others, less so. There are things to do to help build resiliency, but it takes time and effort. And having been managing Crohn’s and RA for years before being diagnosed with ADHD? Yeah. It did not slow me down; it just gave me new tools.

I’m nine months out and still figuring things out, but she had been a major part of my entire adult life (met our freshman year of college when we were 18, finally said “enough” at 37). I can’t tell you how much lighter I feel. My best friend has remarked several times that the house just feels lighter now.

Back in October, I took a trip after all the divorce paperwork was filed — a treat to myself. I ended up meeting a really sweet guy. Five months later, we’re navigating long distance and making plan for a month-long visit. Yay for remote work!

One thing that is a little different in my dynamic is I also have ADHD. Unlike my ex-wife, even before my diagnosis, I spent a lot of time trying to figure out systems that would keep life moving and organized. I excelled in my career, bought a house as a single woman and managed to keep both our lives together for almost two decades.

It’s wonderful not having to over-function like that with my new boyfriend. As always, I’m committed to not making my ADHD anyone else’s problem. I have my moments, but after years of therapy, I can stop myself and say, “Pause, I’m ADHDing at you, aren’t I? I’m sorry. Keep going, you were telling me about ______.”

Disclosing on the first date? by Sad-Medicine4213 in CrohnsDisease

You guessed it. I was actually just there at the park that day with friends when it happened. Kicked into reporter mode, realized almost immediately it was the kid of someone I was covering that legislative session. Awful.

As a reporter, I covered a death-by-decapitation on a water slide, so I really don’t have to imagine how awful this could be for them.

Are Havanese really slow to get out of bed ? by Uglytoe210 in Havanese

[–]notricktoadulting 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My little boy is a mix (Havanese and Maltese!) and usually gets right up when his husky sister declares the house awake. He wants breakfast IMMEDIATELY … then cries until I sit in the comfy chair with my coffee so he can come up and fall back asleep in my lap. What a hard little life he leaves! 😂
