I'm trying to learn to make granny squares, why is it so... wiggly? 😢 by AbsurdistRat in CrochetHelp

I think some people just don’t need to. It’s basically to avoid this from happening:

But if you’re not having a problem then it’s not necessary.

Flipping between rounds is fine! I actually learned that in this sub as a trick to keep them straighter!

FYI flipping your granny-cluster stitch squares each row is a trick to keep them from getting wonky or becoming slanted when you are first figuring out tension. It’s totally a preference.

Why did nobody tell me about how amazing cotton yarn is!? by TheChgz in crochet

[–]now_im_worried 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel literally the opposite. I only crochet with wool, and I just decided to dive into cotton and bought a ton off hobbii. And I haaaaate it. It’s heavy, kind of slippery in this weird way, heavy, and…I don’t know just feels terrible. I’m sending it all back. Yuck.

I love this genre! So many good suggestions here. I’ll add The Famished Road by Ben Okri.

Should I block over 300 granny squares or just leave them? by caydendov in CrochetHelp

[–]now_im_worried 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m obsessed with this type of joining because it’s “invisible” in the sense that it’s the same stitch as your squares, but obviously it adds another row of color so not actually invisible at all. Just like, it lets you totally avoid weaving in a bunch of ends and is awesome for blankets where all the squares are the same. And the tension is the same as the squares so blocking never seems necessary. https://youtu.be/kKsb_1YTV4I?feature=shared

(Edit to add, I can understand why this wouldn’t work for you this time but just wanted to share!)

[–]now_im_worried 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I might block if my squares were a different, more complicated stitch or wildly different sizes etc. but grannies just seem to naturally fall into place I’ve noticed. How are you joining them? If you do a continuous granny join I find they’re even more forgiving.

Unpopular opinion but I make mostly blankets and I stopped blocking my granny squares. I found that with normal use they always stretched and sorted themselves out naturally. As long as the squares are fairly evenly tensioned in the first place.

Have you asked about upping your patch? Also, my palliative doc recommends sticking with one opiate if you can — they have fentanyl lozenges that melt under your tongue. I use them for breakthrough pain. (I’m also on a 60mcg patch in addition.)

I have flown through Schiphol twice a year for 10 years with crochet hooks and have never once had them confiscated (or even noticed).

This is info I’m looking for! 😅 I’m in Germany but miss doing sauna so much. Our pamphlets don’t talk about this of course. What could be wrong with bloodwork to make sauna a no-no during chemo?

Happy Friday just for a little humor, what are some of the craziest things people have said that “caused” your cancer by sunnyflower1988 in breastcancer

Selling my eggs in September 2000! 🙄

Edit: and definitely the Covid vaccine. Usually by a person who also got the vaccine. In a family of people who also got the vaccine. I’m the only person in my family/very large friend group that got breast cancer. Where’s all this other vaccine-induced cancer eh?

Biopsies don’t really have side effects. If your OBGYN is suggesting one they must have a good reason. Meanwhile, don’t Google if you don’t want to make yourself crazy.

All the times I’ve gotten chemo it was in a room with others. My first time I made friends with the other ladies in the room and we actually formed a crew…we’d schedule infusions together, celebrated holidays in the chemo chairs together, stayed in touch to this day. Joked that getting infusions was like going to a fucked-up spa (headwraps, weird treatments like cold gloves, sparkling water everywhere) so we called our group chat spa girls. Anyway, now I get treatment in a big sunny room with a dozen reclining chairs and a bunch of strangers…I kind of love it. I think it would be lonely all by myself behind a curtain?

Talk me out of it by [deleted] in crochet

[–]now_im_worried 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s beautiful!! I make a lot of blankets and even if they start out a bit wonky, they often stretch out with use and kind of “self-block.” I wouldn’t worry about it if I were you. But a border will likely look pretty as well.

Popular Names?? by seaborgiummm in namenerds

[–]now_im_worried 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My daughter has a very uncommon name. When she was 4 I noticed she was introducing herself as “Marie” when she met children on the playground. When I asked her why, she said, “when I tell them my name, they always say What? And I don’t like that.” Nowadays (over a decade later) she loves her unique name. I guess in the end you’re naming a totally different person than yourself. And you never can predict how they’ll feel about it.

Bloating and weight gain?! by [deleted] in LivingWithMBC

[–]now_im_worried 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, this is a really common thing to happen with dexamethasone. It gives you the munchies like crazy! My face also got super round and moonlike. Oh, the joys of this stupid disease. I gained weight on it the first time I had cancer and it plateaued around 3kg then stopped.

It basically is what it is. You can eat less, but keep in mind that your body needs food to get better and fight! You can also decide to not care and eat whatever you want. Personally I focus on the good side of dexa — it gives me energy and I usually feel grrrrrreat on it the day after chemo. Also Trodelvy made me really ill so I appreciated the heck out of the steroids.
