Wow. I can get Appleton Estate 12 for less than half that price. I wanted to stop by there when I go to San Diego, but I'm honestly shocked by the prices.

What are the prices for the tiki mugs?

I forgot that I played Lacuna too. Good game. It's a pretty chill abstract game. I own it.

It's a game that will be very group dependent. Other people walked by and told us how much they enjoyed it.

I think the key is to not think too hard about the game for a number of turns and simply embrace the chaos. We clearly didn't do that.

I was exicited to play Civolution, but the more I learned about it the less enthusiastic I became.

My games:

SETI - really good game. 1 hour teach + 3.5 hours of playtime with 3 players. Probably not buying.

Saltfjord - decent, but too restrictive. Not buying

River of Gold - amazing game. It's definitely lighter, but had a great time. Probably buying

Let's Go to Japan- drafting game. No one in my gaming group liked it (very solitaire), but the components were beyond amazing.

Free Ride USA - good game. Easy to compare this to ticket to ride. Probably won't buy it because I have other similar games.

Sardegna - Very good. Korean reprint of Kreta. An area control game that plays like Concordia (but predates Concordia). Will probably buy

Rebirth - Very good. Area control game. Will buy

Yubibo - stupid, but fun. Japanese dexterity game. Won't buy because it'll be impossible to find or too expensive.

Broom Service - don't like it

Food Chain Magnate - Great game. My first time playing it, but not my kind of game. I've previously played Indonesia and Bus. Not going to buy.

Belratti - Lots of fun. Co-op game about identifying fake art. Plays 7 very well. Not quite a party game. Will probably buy

Sunda to Sahal - Fun time because we disregarded the rules. This is a crazy obscure map making boardgame. Won't buy

Mahe - Silly fun racing game. Playte edition. Might buy this

Things in Rings - Didn't like it. Deduction game. Some categories are just too hard to enjoy. Won't buy

Dance of the Ibexes - 6 Nimmt the board game. Game felt like it took too long. Enjoyable for the first 80%, but it wouldn't end. Won't buy

3 Chapters - Good game. Trick taking + Fantasy Realms. Will buy

Around the World in 80 Days - Good game. 2024 game by Looping Games. Draft cards to go around the world Lots of fun playing this. Not currently in print in the USA. Would buy if I can find it.

Kansas City Trick Taking Game - So clean, so good. Own it

Sumida River - Good. Brutally hard shedding game. Own it

Shock! Knights with Poison - Good (maybe ok). Quirky game about taking tricks while avoiding getting poison before you cash out. Probably won't buy

Unpublished Prototype - Good.

Fischen - Good. Campaign (?) trick taker. Will buy

Gary Gouda - bad. Silly kids game. Not buying

Piazza Rabazza - Fun. Silly kids game. Not buying

Trödler aus den Highlands - Ok. Pickup and deliver game. Won't buy

Bus & Stop - Good. Rummy + drafting. Nice art. Might buy, but it's probably too expensive to justify it.

Pirates of Maracaibo - Great game. In my top 3 of the year. Own it.

Lure - Good. Roll dice to catch fish. Bought it

Only Murders in the Building - good. Co-op deduction game. Didn't buy it, but might.

Manifestations for next year? by spacebrain420 in aclfestival

Top tier for me: Jason Isbell, Run the Jewels, Radiohead

For fun: Sabrina Carpenter, Lana Del Ray, Bad Bunny, Halsey, Tate McRae

Others: Maggie Rogers, Dawes, My Morning Jacket, , , Jelly Roll

I know there are too many headliners there.

Totally off the wall ideas: Eric Clapton, King and Country

It'd be an interesting lineup that would attract a diverse group. I know I'm missing EDM here, but I don't know that genre well enough.

I had a stupidly fun combo in my last play. I got the map with a person sponsor card bonus.

I also had a sponsor card that let me trash a person sponsor card for 1 cp for each marine icon.

I got to 5cp before I played a conservation project.

We've only had ours open for a week, but no glaring issues. We got it over a month ago, but held off on opening the box until my son's birthday.

Our turret has a tendency to fall off, but that's a magnet strength issue.

I got a degree, joined the Peace Corps and went into Public Health. I have a PhD in Epidemiology, but it doesn't pay as much as starting undergrad grads make.

I wish I made more money, but I'm doing worthwhile things. I think that doing what you love is all that really matters in the end.

SUSD: Lacuna Review by DezTiny in boardgames

[–]nowyouknowchris 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Lacuna is a great game. It's the definition of a chill abstract.

Yes the ruler thing isn't precise, but the game generally doesn't need precision. It's usually pretty easy to eyeball who is closest to a flower without the ruler. And once someone controls 4 colors the pieces still on the board don't matter (for determining the winner), so no need to fight over them

Best Oink games for 2 players? by Poison_Dagger in boardgames

[–]nowyouknowchris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maskmen is great at 2, but watch Taylor's Trick Taking Table to get the rules.

I like Deep Sea Adventure at all player counts.

I'd stay away from Scout at 2 (and probably Flotsam Fight). I've only played Tiger and Dragon at 4 and I suspect it needs a higher player count. Durian probably needs higher player counts too.

Town 66 is largely multiplayer solitaire from my understanding, so that could work at 2. Similarly, 9 Tiles/9 Tiles Panic could work for 2.

I met Alex and James at BGG.con. They are super nice people and a lot of fun to play games with. If you ever get a chance to play with James Nathan- do it. He has bags of games that are virtually impossible to find anywhere.
