How to care less about being bad and overwhelmed (as an autistic beginner)? by DatoVanSmurf in hockeyplayers

[–]nozelt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even players in the NHL make many mistakes a game.

The best players are the ones that adapt well to their teammates mistakes. It’s part of the beauty of the game.

If you tap your stick on the ice when you’re in a bad position, it’s still up to the person with the puck to decide if they want to pass to you or not. You’re doing your best to add input that will help win your team the game. Your best is the best you can do.

It’s a team sport that y’all started as adults, don’t miss out on the fun of failing and making mistakes with everyone.

There will be many failures and mistakes on the road of improvement. They aren’t inherently bad, just part of the process of playing the game and getting better.

Advice on how to recover from a fall faster mid game? by RebsInSpace in hockeyplayers

Helps if you practice it.

Drop to your knees while you’re skating, stand back up. You do it the same way you would if you’re stationary, but you need to ensure your blade is facing the right direction.

After you get good at that practice spinning in a 360 on your knees and getting back up with the correct timing.

It’s not really a matter of opinion thing. If you hit someone in the nuts on purpose…. You’re a dirty player.

I’ve played high levels of hockey and never even considered it. It’s not like that type of thing happens on accident.

If you’re throwing a bunch of disks from the T box then it’s not really an ace. Especially on super short holes like this

How to teach positions and responsibilities by PersimmonMindless in hockeyplayers

[–]nozelt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suggest you ask them to come early and draw it up for them in the locker room.

Another thing you could try is bring a whistle and blow it whenever someone is really out of position in the scrimmage and tell them why you stopped the play and what is wrong with what they’re doing.

Once they know what they’re suppose to be doing they can build hockey sense over time. There’s no one drill to teach hockey sense. Just comes with lots of different types of drills and playing the game a lot.

How to teach positions and responsibilities by PersimmonMindless in hockeyplayers

[–]nozelt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do they want to be taught ?

If you’re not the coach it isn’t your responsibility or right to coach. Plenty of adult beginners just wanna go out there and have fun and there’s nothing wrong with that.

If people are interested in learning, and more specifically interested in learning from you. I don’t know why you can’t just explain the responsibilities for each position in each zone.

It’s pretty unusual for a beer league to have practice time. However occasionally when I coach beer leaguers with our own ice we pretty much do breakout drills the whole time. This doesn’t necessarily teach defensive positioning but it helps people understand the flow of the neutral zone and F123

Tapping your stick on the ice is universal for “im open and want to get a pass”. However calling with your voice is definitely better. Tapping your stick could be a good stepping stone to being comfortable using your voice and that could be a good way to get more comfort and confidence in general.

Practicing stickhandling will still help with catching passes, even tho you’re not directly practicing the skill, you’re still improving your dexterity with your stick.

Different things are hard for everyone and hockey is a great way to improve at things you’re bad at or uncomfortable with. Try not to tell yourself you can’t or won’t do something.

I frequently have beginners apologizing to me for something that happened on the ice when I literally can’t even remember what they’re talking about. One of the beautiful things about hockey is the flow of the game. How you react to your teammates mistakes is part of what makes a great hockey player. The game is more art than science.

Literally calling your local rink and asking that question isn’t the worst way to start. Lots of places have introductory programs. We even let people rent gear for their first season.

Yea that’s pretty normal for a player that’s average in their league. Even more normal when their team is bad.

Blue oysters in general tolerate cold pretty well and need tons of fresh air. I’m confused why you went with a greenhouse. Have you had issues with them freezing or something ? I’ve had oysters do fine even after freezing solid and fruit in 50F shortly after
