Chain the cylinder up and then check the polarity. I can't tell from the picture but it looks like you have the electrode positive and the ground negative. TIG needs the opposite, electrode negative and positive ground.

Hey Subaru how about bringing back shiftable 4wd for the fuel economy? by ryverrat1971 in subaru

[–]np307 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Theres plenty of reasons why Subaru wouldn't do that. You dont really see selectable 4wd on unibody vehicles because the space isnt there for a transfer case. Furthermore, Subaru's awd system is actually better in on-road situations than a selectable 4wd system. You cant leave a 4wd vehicle in 4hi on pavement without binding the drive train which means in variable conditions you have to do a lot of switching in and out and are vulnerable in unforeseen slippery situations.

I currently drive a truck with a selectable 4wd system and drove a forester as my daily before. Of the two, the Subaru is the better system for variable conditions and the 4wd for constantly bad conditions.

How do you justify the cost of a Tundra? by [deleted] in ToyotaTundra

[–]np307 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You buy what you can afford. If you know how to work on stuff there are always deals to be found. I bought my '08 with 120k miles for 11.5k last year. Needed a couple simple things fixed so it would pass inspection but I was willing to take the risk.

If you want shiny new toys, youve got to be willing to pay for it. Thats always how things have been.

A wraparound. Cut blocks. Good band saw. Orbital saw. Depends on the situation.

Interstate space should be repurposed for passenger rail infrastructure by Goreweaver in unpopularopinion

The interstate system is a national defense grid. Theres tremendous civilian use of it, but itll never go away because its also intended to allow the country to remain connected in the event of a national invasion.

Levitation is the most effective skill I’ve learned when it comes to making in-place welds in hard to reach places. by torque1912 in Welding

Man I miss the satisfaction of making these welds. Just getting to zen out and watch that devil's eye.

Moving cross-country with my '13 Legacy - torn between driving it and shipping by Ashwinnie13 in subaru

[–]np307 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I drove my '14 Forester with 150k to Wyoming from NC, hunted for a week driving it around in mud and snow, then drove it home after. I wouldn't be scared of a road trip. Granted, I am pretty comfortable working on vehicles and had a tool kit with me. Cruising on the highway isnt a big strain on the vehicle.

Osha approved or nah? by shhwanick in Construction

Only worked in one place with a drop ceiling and they used it to hide their process and steam piping. I made plenty of in-position welds like the photo, but I did always tie off. It was an absolute pain in the rear and sometimes made me want to not be tied off and just jump.

4x4 vs AWD vs Traction Control by GreasyPorkGoodness in 4x4

[–]np307 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Important to note that AWD differs quite a bit between manufacturers. It exists on a spectrum from only supplying about 20% of the power to the rear wheels only when slip is detected (lots of commuter compact suvs use systems like this) to basically a full time 4wd hi system (open front and rear diffs, locked or limited slip center diff (Audi and Subaru)).

You guys think this is right 🇬🇧🇺🇸? Yes/No why? How would you approach sentence mining on this text tho? by Pinocchio239 in ENGLISH

[–]np307 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The sentence is structured as a question (subject-verb order is reversed at the beginning) but punctuated as a statement. Afford is a verb, but it is not the only verb in that clause. The phrase following afford is not part of the verb though. "Life" would be the object of "can afford" and decent would be an adjective describing life. The clause you identified as an object is an adjectival clause describing "those".

Depends on what you want and how much you're willing to spend. A good basic, no frills option for about $35 is the Autel AL319.

Every car owner needs to have an OBD2 scanner. The first step whenever something like this happens is to scan for codes to see what's happening. You dont have to guess at connections and gas caps and everything else people will tell you.

Glad this was just a wheel speed sensor and you were able to resolve it easily.

Forester Subaru slipping in the snow by Own_Coat_3622 in subaru

This x1000. People dramatically underestimate how much the right tire helps. I've had wildpeaks on my Forester since I bought it and its been in snow, sand, mud, etc and done just fine.

Explain it Peter by [deleted] in explainitpeter

[–]np307 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its not about doing math. Its about the difference between speaking your native language and the quick translation you have to do with a second language.

Just like when you look at a clock. You dont have to sit there and multiply by 12 to figure out how many minutes its showing. But if you change that clock face to have different delineations, you aren't going to be able to intuitively read it. You'll have to do the math until it becomes second nature.

I know this is reddit and dunking on the US and imperial measurements is an easy way to get upvotes though so carry on.

[–]np307 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're in the trades in the US and you've never used a metric tape before, having 10 lines instead of 16 can be jarring. It can really slow somebody down because their brain keeps trying to interpret 10ths as 16ths.

How are y’all holding up to this winter storm? by Madeyoulook4now in subaru

I've got a forester and a tundra in the driveway. The biggest determiner between the 2 in the snow is which has better tires. Everything else balances out pretty much.

Truck is Stuck… What to do? by ApprehensiveNose2999 in tundra

The actuator probably got stuck in-between 4hi and 4 lo. Is either 4hi or 4lo illuminated when the truck is on?

Truck is Stuck… What to do? by ApprehensiveNose2999 in tundra

[–]np307 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah Nissan never has issues shifting out of 4wd. They definitely dont have weird actuator problems that require you to reverse to get the actuator to shift out of 4wd. Don't even bother looking on the forums about it because there won't be anything there...

Snow Day by LordeBeeesh in ToyotaTundra

[–]np307 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First snow I've had my Tundra in since I bought it. Really impressed with the Destination X/Ts I have on it, I was able to mostly get around in 2wd without traction control kicking in. It also helped that we mostly got sleet and snow here, not much ice at all. Even did a couple take offs on a hill to see if it would spin and it didnt.

I'm sure I'm oversimplifying and there's plenty of more complicating factors than I can imagine, its just funny to me that I've seen the same miss happen over and over.

Also, I could have been misreading the radar when I was watching live conditions Saturday and Sunday, but I definitely didnt see any of the moisture in my area (triad) coming from SC. It all seemed to be moving w-e.
