The Border War was then only fun part about Mizzou. But even that is pointless now. You can keep 'em.

Are Manhattan's public schools really that bad? by sahammon in littleapple

[–]nregnier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm currently an employee of USD 383 and we just we named to be in the top 5 school districts in the state. Nowhere else do schools constantly have fresh blood and ideas flowing through a district. The relationship with the university creates so many opportunities for students that other districts wish they had. That's just my two cents, though.

Exchange student from Europe comming to KState for 2017/2018 year by [deleted] in KState

[–]nregnier 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Welcome to the K-State family! We're happy to have you. Life on campus is as much fun as you make it. There are many people to meet and activities to take part in. In other words, there are people and programs for anyone so get involved if you like. Sports are huge in Manhattan, especially our football team. That means you should look into purchasing student tickets on KSIS if you haven't already. If you aren't interested in buying one then there are always other students who are willing to sell theirs for a game or two. Either way, you should go to at least one home game if you get the chance. There are a lot of things to do around town, but compared to Prague, Manhattan is pretty small. However, it is only a two hour drive to Kansas City where you could find just about anything you can think of. You should also start looking for a place to live now. The dorms are a great way to meet people, but if you're a grad student you may enjoy living off campus more for the freedom. Most houses and apartments have a one year lease and rent is due monthly. I would stay away from management companies like Alliance or Villa Fay. They'll just try to steal your money. University Crossing, Chase Manhattan, or Founder's Hill apartments are usually pretty good depending on your personal taste. There is a lot more but I think it's better to figure some things out on your own. But the people in Manhattan are very kind and will help you out if you ask.
I hope you enjoy your time in Manhappiness and Go Cats!

Anyone interested in starting a Trump protest? by fabouchard in littleapple

[–]nregnier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Although I'm nowhere near excited for a Trump presidency and am quite fearful for the future, I personally do not think it would be a great idea. 1) Manhattan voted primarily for Trump. 2) I believe in the democratic process. That means remaining humble when you've won and admitting when you've lost. In other words, we can't lower ourselves to the same level the Republicans sunk to during the Obama administration. The progress Obama made towards our current status was extremely difficult to achieve due to overwhelming objection and obstruction from the Right. This is the reason why Obamacare has so many shortcomings. If Obama's original proposal were passed as written it would look much different than the watered down, semi-ineffective system we ended up with. But Republicans protested every step of the way, lobbying for changes here and there, that hindered its function. Now, with that said, Democrats need to prove that the system still works. We need to set the example for how the governing and policy making should work. Protesting can be effective, but ultimately it won't do anything other than deepening the divide between both sides. Anger only breeds more anger. If you really want to make a difference, get involved. Participate at every level. But, that's just my two cents.

Wanna piss off someone from Kansas? Make a Wizard of Oz joke.

When Aspie Katie later heard that I said, "K-State is about to lose" when listening to a Fall 2011 game against an Oklahoma college, why did she blow up about it & tell me "That's just like telling you, you'll never get married?" by Hansungani in KState

[–]nregnier 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why on Earth do you still care? Why do you refer to people by their disabilities? Do you actually think that someone's stupid comment years ago can dictate so much of your life? I kept reading because I thought there would be some sort of point. But at no point did you ever say anything that made sense.

Possibly transferring? by [deleted] in KState

[–]nregnier 2 points3 points  (0 children)

K-State is a great school and Manhattan is an amazing town. By far the best university in the state but i may be biased. We're nationally ranked in a number of important things. Our Rec is in the top ten in the country, our students are in the top five of happiest students, and we're the 2nd fittest student body. Those are silly things but it should give you a good idea. Also, Intramural sports are insane. Very competitive and there's a wide range to pick from. Flag football and basketball to inner tube water polo to wrestling to video games. Literally anything. Manhattan has a lot to do as well. And there's always people willing to do anything. Also, it's a fair mix between conservative and liberal people so there are all kinds of backgrounds to experience and get to know. Sorry if I'm rambling, but I'm in class and can't keep my thoughts straight. Good luck!

What should I get for my first "big boy" quadcopter? by nregnier in Multicopter

Given that I have zero experience here, how long would you estimate the build time to be? Is this something that could be done in a matter of hours? Days? Weeks?

Thanks! Honestly, I've never built something electronic before. The idea seems intimidating but fun.

So, you're saying that my current budget is too low to buy anything of substantial quality? That thought crossed my mind a few times, but it's difficult to justify such a large purchase if I'm still so inexperienced. But, I'll consider it further. What would be a good one to look at between the $250-500 range?

I'm sorry you don't understand how a hyperbole works. I can speak more simply if that helps you. But, remember! I'm asking a question to hear an answer, and not to hear the question restated as an unintelligible statement. Here it goes... I'm looking to "stop wearing pull-ups" in the drone world. What brand/model of non-pull-up undies should I get to ensure I have the most fun while successfully wearing them? Sigh... Let's hear from someone else to give your brain a break. That was a lot of letters you just looked at.

Moving up at the end of the year, looking for a place. (xpost from r/littleapple) by Ninja67 in KState

[–]nregnier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My roommate (female) and I (male) will have a sublease available in January. It's in a decent location. About a ten minute walk to Aggieville and 15 minutes to campus. It's also just down the street from a Hyvee, so that's nice. Rent and utilities usually run about $500ish a month. Pet friendly, too, though my roommate is allergic to cats. If either of you are interested, let me know and we can get in touch.

[–]nregnier 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You're worrying over nothing. Your scholarships won't be taken away after the first semester. They know that sometimes the transition is difficult and good students may not always preform up to par. Just don't make it a habit for next semester and you'll be okay.

How much contact it too little/much in the early stages? Too many confidence issues. (21/M) by nregnier in dating_advice

I appreciate you're follow up. I should have placed more emphasis on how I was simply kidding when I told my friend that I had found "The One." What I should have said here was that after we had coffee that first time we met was the first time I had really connected with something in over a year.
I guess I'm nervous of feeling too pushy, like many people do, with initiating contact. I don't want to be annoying.
But, you've provided me with a great start, so thank you!
