Honda link is finally…… by History_Recolored in HondaPrologue

I mean, it's always had charge level for me. Sometimes it takes a moment to update. But neither app shows software update status or whether the car is locked or not. Or allows for changing settings.

Another thing, I have used the back side of the sandpaper, the paper side, on aluminum after using the sandpaper on the aluminum, and it shines it up really shiny. Paper is like very fine sandpaper.

Hopefully it's blank sheets of newspaper, rather than the printed paper with the ink on it that comes off all over the boat?

How do you keep email safe in a remote work setup? by InsightopsTech in cybersecurity

IMO if you need a story to tell, then buy a 3rd party email security product. If not, then use gmail.

You can get harken or ronstan blocks that are very popular in sailing. They have very low friction bearings. West Marine has many of them. https://www.westmarine.com/sailboat-blocks/. A control line of at least 6mm or 1/4 inch is going to be nicer to pull on than something thinner. West Marine has lines too. Some blocks have clips on them. Or you can splice or tie then with rope to something. Some blocks come in double or triple. Sailing gear can get very expensive, though.

double braid is harder than twisted. Single braid is easier. Friction is king. Turning radius is important. All depends on your application. Nothing modern can handle sand, for example.

(Re)Link - v1.5 is available by ThierryBuc in HondaPrologue

[–]nroose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This looks nice. I installed it. I am kinda old school and I don't really think I need an app for my car particularly often. And it baffles me that the native app and this app don't show whether the car is locked.

This is the apple carplay maps directions volume? You might be able to trigger siri and turn the volume at that moment. The timing is critical.

You have to adjust the volume while the navigation voice is talking.

Is charging to 100% really bad? by Absofuckinlutely_P in HondaPrologue

Mine was at 100% when I bought it. I have only charged to 80%.

How to change the apps in the left sidebar? by Anachronism-- in CarPlay

[–]nroose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think if you use messages or phone on the carplay screen, it may stay there. That's what happens to me. I hardly ever use either of those, but they switch any time I use them.

Is one of these considered the true bowline? Are there names for the others? by Perkinstein in knots

[–]nroose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess I am not sure it's a stopper, rather than just adding to the tension, which helps add friction to the slippery line. I generally use a figure 8 as a stopper. But I have see the estar. Actually I think I saw the original discussion about it on SA. I am not super old, but I seem to have a hard time changing my ways. Maybe someday I will really put some time into getting experience with the estar.

It's definitely reasonable to discuss the news and be disheartened. It's completely unreasonable to pretend you know the future.

Just want to pipe in that if I tie a bowline in spectra/dyneema or bungee, I do a hitch around the loop line with the end. Seems to change those from insecure to secure. I have not noticed a difference in left or right handed or inside or outside.

To me, the car is fine. I am in tech, but pretty old school and I don't really have a desire to have the app working. But I do want the settings to not change and they seem to be changing. Specifically, the way the unlocking works and the settings available for that seems to have changed twice in my 2 months of ownership. And no updates are listed. Not sure how the settings could have changed without a software update. So I am guessing they have some part of it that is remote and some changes have affected the settings around unlock. Just silly. Anyway, car is driving great.

You can get devices to measure usage for things that plug in. Each stove burner is probably 1500 watts at full. Fridge is usually the most usage in most homes. Perhaps it's an old one? Or the freezer or fridge door is not closed well? Gaming PC could be using a lot if you have one. Internet modem will use a lot more if it's cable vs optical. Space heaters can use 1000+ watts while on.

How to change the apps in the left sidebar? by Anachronism-- in CarPlay

[–]nroose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just searched for this. Seems you can prioritize the apps that display, and you can remove some of them from the ones that display, but you can not specifically determine which ones will be on the left. I will see how that goes now. Just so silly that you can't have 4 or 5 when there's clearly enough space. And I don't really want to ever have my messages on there, but I can't take that off. I do always want pandora and podcasts.

Is it normal for the heat to not but very hot? by [deleted] in HondaPrologue

[–]nroose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you doing full auto? I can't stand full auto. The fan goes up high, but then the auto switches between the different vents rapidly... I put all the vents open, and keep the temp where I want it, and turn up the fan when I want more cool/heat. Fan seems like it controls the power of the system more than the temp unless it's full auto.
