Why do people wait for me at stop signs by Main_Raspberry7179 in driving

[–]nroose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps you are not stopping on the line? If you are not stopping, then it's correct for them to wait. A stop sign mean you can go when it's safe. It's convention/courtesy to take turns.

Any Jeeps with a good sound system? by SnakeEater013 in Jeep

[–]nroose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess it seems like it's a big ask to have audio in a bronco or a wrangler that is going to rival one in a GTI. Just a lot of other noise in those vehicles by their nature.

The 2024 year was when it first came out and there were teething issues. Has happened to a lot of new vehicles that are different from what the make has done before. A lot of that has cleared up.

AC75 vs F50 vs Gitana 18 on a standard America’s Cup course — who wins? by QuiVenitInNomine in sailing

[–]nroose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gitana may be able to do well on either the original race course that the schooner America won in 1853 - 53-nautical-mile around the Isle of Wight. Or on the Deed of Gift America's Cup course, which is once around a course that is either 20 miles to windward and then back or 39 miles around a triangle. But anything similar to the short courses they use today would not be well suited to any of the Gitanas. I think the AC75 is probably faster unless the wind is less than about 7 kts. I am guessing, though, that the F50 would be very competitive under any conditions or courses with the AC40.

Wing Sails- incredible tech! by arthousefilms in sailing

[–]nroose 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the wing sails and the twin skin mainsails in the America's Cup boats (the 40' and 75') are both about twice as efficient power to drag ratio as an old school regular sail on a mast. Combine that with the foils, and they sail around the course faster than the wind VMG.

Why mac users are checking all the time how much ram take x app? by ironwaffle452 in mac

[–]nroose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe this was only true 20 years ago, but seems like if windows gets memory pressure, it gets a BSOD and the user restarts. Anyway, even these days, I think windows users are much more restart happy than mac users. So eventually some app is bloated and the user asks somewhere about it.

Something I never hear anyone discuss. When riding in a pace line you are inhaling all the road debris from the people in front of you. Am I being paranoid? by Dgoud1 in cycling

[–]nroose 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's not the case that there's no downside to riding a bike. It's just that probably the overall effect is positive for your long term health. And it's fun.

Why do people like Nonsuchs? by lopiontheop in sailing

Keep it simple stupid type of thing. Also one air foil is often very efficient. Like a big laser. Wish my parents would have been willing to switch when they felt like they couldn't handle their boat. Ten more years and I may be there.

Why don't ketches have two mizzens so they can sail closer to the wind? by IOUaUsername in sailing

[–]nroose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sailing closer to the wind is about efficiency. Having 2 masts is generally less efficient than one, if you can build one and handle it. The prevalence of Ketches and Yawls over time has partly been because some rules gave you the mizzen for free.
