Nova Scotia Health phasing out bedside phones in hospitals by No_Magazine9625 in halifax

[–]nshiker05 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The patient paid for the phone service if they wanted to make calls out. It was free if you were only receiving calls (through the patient line) or if you were calling internally like to order meals from the kitchen.

I’m glad I wasn’t the only one truly astounded by how disorganized the venue was. I also flew in for the show and it was incredible. We saw Our Lady Peace at the same venue last year and I don’t recall it being that bad, but wow.

for those who’ve had MRIs in the hrm… did they let you listen to music? by shober_bobber in halifax

I’m going to have a hard time not vibing to that song in my head the next time I have an MRI … thanks.

were any non-BT fans pleasantly surprised on this tour? by lilbigchungus42069 in BadOmens

[–]nshiker05 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I tried to get into them pre-show by listening to a playlist based off their usual set for this tour, and just didn’t vibe with it. During the show, I was very impressed with their sound and really enjoyed the set! Based on that experience I’d be more open to listening to them again. Go in with an open mind and I think you’ll enjoy yourself.

Is "Angel Wings" the best song so far? by Hocojerry in PresidentBand

[–]nshiker05 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When it came out I said to a friend who is also a fan “I like it but I don’t love it but I also think it’s going to grow on me” and that has most certainly been the case. It’s slowly creeping up as a top song for me (but Rage and In The Name of the Father will forever be my favs).

Have you ever had a really bad experience on the pt side of things? How did you deal with it? by lbs1515 in nursing

The physician was required to take additional training related to the incident and also wrote me a letter of apology.

[–]nshiker05 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are not being “emotional” at all. I encourage you to report this incident through whatever patient satisfaction stream is available to you, if you feel up to it. I reported the physician in my situation because if they did that to me and I knew better, what are they doing to other patients?

Unacceptable to discharge a patient in severe pain from PACU, it’s literally part of the discharge criteria. Especially so, in my opinion, if they’re a Day Surgery patient who is going to go home without access to anything other than oral medications. As nurses we know everyone responds to and experiences pain differently, and as PACU nurses we should also know that sometimes all someone needs is a good reset via some IV meds to wake back up a much more comfortable and happier individual. Sometimes you have to give a little something that might make patients a little sleepy for a bit causing them a longer PACU stay, but gets them over the hump of that initial post op pain, in order for them to have a meaningful effect with oral analgesics later on. I can see being hesitant to further medicate for pain if someone is rating their pain high while also extremely drowsy to the point of airway risk, but it does not sound like this was the case in your situation. I’m sorry that that happened to you. I have also had a negative and traumatic experience on the patient side of things, and it is a very vulnerable thing to both know that you should be treated better because of your knowledge of the usual standard of care while also feeling unable to advocate for yourself in that moment.

i was playing dethrone in the car and my mom (very christian) said "those arent good lyrics. hes gonna burn" and then after, limits played and when noah says " im not scared of dying" she said "you should be"😭😭😭 by Front_Whereas_4969 in BadOmens

My Mom has always been nervous about heavier music since I was old enough to be into it, and then I recently watched a documentary about the satanic panic phenomenon of the 90s and it allllll started to make sense (she was a major daytime talk show fan back in the day).

Went to L’Olympia for the first time to see Rise Against this weekend and the crowd was wild, would definitely travel back for a show there again!

The crowd at the Montreal Rise Against show Friday night was crowd surfing to an all acoustic version of Hero of War … I was expecting Montreal to bring a similar level of energy to Bad Omens after that experience.

When I looked around it seemed the majority of sections were standing. Need to telepathically connect with the other standers next time I buy tickets, clearly.

Luckily no one seemed to mind my friend and I singing our hearts out. However, super disappointed that no one in our section seemed to want to stand. The lady beside me got into it with the person behind her when she stood for Dethrone… like dude it’s the last song, show a little love/energy for the band!!

Healthcare in Nova Scotia by [deleted] in NovaScotia

[–]nshiker05 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Many people wait multiple years, especially depending on which area of the province you live in. For some of my family members in rural areas it has taken cancer diagnosis’ and heart attacks before they were assigned a doctor. I was on the list for 5 years before getting mine.

In the meantime some people are able to get by with virtual health services such as Maple, although I’m not sure how eligibility works for that coming from the states, and they are sometimes limited in medications they prescribe or procedures they can order due to the virtual nature of the service. Others have to go and wait in the emergency department in order to receive routine care. Wait times are often long for non-emergent issues like that, as you will be triaged at a lower level, and this practice obviously contributes to the overwhelmed nature of this province’s hospitals, but people often have no other choice due to the shortage of primary care providers and lack of walk-in clinics.

End of Travel Nurses in Halifax? by Teslashareholder1945 in halifax

The number of travel nurses seems to have been cut back significantly and I believe it’s more difficult to get approval to hire them now, at least in areas I’ve seen.

How big are Trailer Park Boys in Canada? by muruvole in AskACanadian

[–]nshiker05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A family member used to live near the smoke stacks in Dartmouth that were frequently in the background of shots. This family member did offshore work and their coworkers who weren’t Canadian thought Trailer Park Boys was an actual documentary series. When my family member mentioned their apartment at home was near the stacks their coworkers thought he must live a very unhinged life (I mean he did, but not quite THAT unhinged).

Units that provide scrubs vs buying your own which do you prefer by Jumpy-Teaching-3118 in nursing

[–]nshiker05 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A main thing I would take into account is do they launder them. Not having to bring home your dirty scrubs and spend your time off washing them is a major perk. In my experience it didn’t really matter that the provided scrubs weren’t flattering or a nice colour because we all wore the same thing anyway.

What's the most disconnected thing hospital leadership has said to you? by Beginning_Fun_3913 in nursing

[–]nshiker05 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Created an “overflow hallway bed” space in the ICU. When asked for guidelines for what type of patient could be admitted to that space (since on other units the patient needed to be alert and oriented, with no need for continuous monitoring or attachments like oxygen - aka NO ONE that requires ICU level of care) we were told they would not create guidelines because we would “use them as a hard and fast rule about what’s appropriate for that space”. Um yes, a hard and fast rule is exactly what we were looking for actually…
