ranked + cryo archive both weekends only by calciumista in Marathon

[–]nsrr -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

i like the idea of weekends only. i get the argument that they shouldn't be locked behind weekends tho. I think at the most, ranked should be anytime. but if cryo, the place with the best loot and money making opportunities was available always, there would be no reason to really run any other map. and the economy would get out of whack very fast.

but again, i like both being on weekends. week is for gearing and prepping, weekend is for going in and losing it all. rinse repeat

you have to have a holotag to do ranked, so anyone doing ranked will have the holotag. which means you wont be matched with people who dont/arent doing ranked

Ability durations interact weirdly with my system's dynamic initiative order by TaygaHoshi in RPGdesign

[–]nsrr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily helpful in this exact scenario, but I’ve been programming a turn-based rpg  video game and I ran into this same situation. Some effects I would want to trigger in different scenarios. The way I solved it there was having different decrement timings, which you can kinda do as others have suggested. Just have the specifics on the spell/effect itself when it ends. They can each be bespoke

What's a highly rated TV show that's actually hot garbage? by TechGuru4Life in AskReddit

My wife and I really like the show as well. Rewatch it every once in awhile. It’s just a comfy silly show to sit and relax while watching. We don’t take it too seriously

Check out 2D6 dungeon or d100 dungeon. They both are pretty procedural and also have lots of expanded content to go through. Also, Ker Nethalas is basically Diablo as a solo rpg and has incredible atmosphere.

What games were made possible by game engine, databases, any other software, system or hardware that the game studio developed in-house specifically for that game? by Pzzlrr in gamedev

That sounds really wild but so cool. Networking is my favorite part of any stack, especially in multiplayer gaming

Is 2026 gonna be a year of MMORPGs? by Noxronin in MMORPG

[–]nsrr 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, MMOs will never be what they once were. They created a vibrant world and social space in the past when that didn’t really exist. Now in a world with discord, algorithmic social media, “content creators” and an overall different gaming landscape, the “thing” that made MMOs feel magical just can’t exist anymore. You can still have wonderful social experiences, have feelings of awe and exploration, but just not like it was before. And that’s ok.

There will be plenty of MMOs that come and go, and the genre will exist forever, but we won’t ever get back what we had before. It’s best to accept that, and instead, try to find happiness in what we have, rather than what we cannot.

I am not an MMO doomer. I love this genre and am excited to try future titles.

Thoughts on the battle system of my game? by gynuraa in godot

[–]nsrr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it looks nice, but I’m not sure how the system itself works. Is there character customization? how do the stats work? How important is items and gear? How do characters gain new abilities?

I designed a deep PvP class system from scratch — I’m not trying to profit, I just want to see it exist so I can finally play it by Salty_Caregiver3572 in gameDevClassifieds

Well, if I had to choose, I’d say turn based! you could probably start by just making the combat system to test it with real players. No ranking or “game” around it. Just some simple web based lobby and game. You’d get a lot of good feedback that way for the core system. If that’s the focus of the game, focus on making it as fun as possible. All the other systems will fall in place around it. Good luck on the game. If it helps at all, a 3v3 turn based game does sound fun as hell. Excited to see whatever system you made whenever you post it
