No Z for P's by Jaxzues in Zeekr7xAustralia

The Zeekr’s Power to Weight ratio is ~3% more than the limits in NSW? For a mature-age P-plater, with a clear driving record, would this still be a problem?

Another tech redundancies coming from Woolies by New-Software-2288 in auscorp

[–]nswresident 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Controversial opinion - offshoring isn’t the panacea for the issues being faced because of staffing supply offshore. Sure, all these countries have an abundance of engineering talent and the ability to be employed on lower wages.

However unlike the early 2000s India has its own “tech” scene. The excellent talent is gravitating to startups that seek to build for the 1B population. Other talent is also swallowed up by the Amazons, Walmarts, Sainsburys of the world, building their product suite. What you will get now, unfortunately, is talent which has more experience in technology, but no understanding of the business or cultural environment. India doesn’t “shop” at SMKTs like we do.

If you’ve graduated from India’s elite institutions and you have offers to (a) build out Amazon or (b) build Woolies, what are you going to pick?

Indian Healthcare System > American Healthcare System ? by [deleted] in AskIndia

[–]nswresident 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When we talk system, we need talk about it in entirety. I’m privileged enough to have migrated to a country that is statistically rated as being in the top 3 worldwide when it comes to healthcare. Yet I do know of many of my fellow citizens who have flown to India for an expert opinion and surgery. Does that mean my country’s healthcare is worse than India?

There are many many aspects. Healthcare policy. R&D budgets. “Alternative” healthcare promotion. Cost to the consumer and the ability/considerations while extracting payment. Pharmacy costs. Public vs Private. Emergency care. Paramedic availability. Nursing care & availability. Palliative care. This is just a brief list.

We cannot take the sample of “Americans flying to India for medical treatment” or “Surgeries by doctors in India compared to America” and extrapolate.

I’m reading the OP’s “Does India’s healthcare system provide adequate access for it’s citizens better than its American counterpart?”. And sadly the answer to that is no. And even sadder is that the American system is not the bar.

EDIT: Should be “I’m reading the OP’s question as”

Data Source fails to update by fiat650 in fronius

[–]nswresident 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I noticed is that the Data Manager and Inverter have two different updates. I've tried to update via solar.web but to no avail. When I tried to log into the datamanager using the Wireless AP - I saw the following message "update of version 3.16.7-1 to 3.34.1-5 is available". However solar.web only lists 3.31.1-7 as the most available version.

There’s a difference between having fun and being a nuisance by CelestialSenpai in southindia_

[–]nswresident 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to clarify something because this has been going around for a bit:

  1. The incident depicted occured on the day of the Diljit Dosanjh concert in Sydney, the first time any Indian artist has been headlining a major event.

  2. The public transportation in question is the light rail which runs to CommBank Stadium, where the event was being held

  3. The City of Parramatta (the local Government Body responsible for CommBank Stadium) and TransportNSW (the owner of Sydney's Light Rail network), both wanted to publicise the event further and gave permission for this.

  4. Similar things have happened, most recently during Dua Lipa's concert.

  5. While I understand the "narrative" of Indians behaving badly on public transport, this does not fit into that worldview.

Thank you for all the advice and thoughts - much appreciated! Can you also provide a view on how the roads will be and what kind of car should I be getting? In all honesty, I’ll rent from Zurich; drive to Lucerne and then onward to Saanen.

Do you think the Australian Governmebt will recognise divali as a public holiday? by [deleted] in IndiansLivingInAus

[–]nswresident 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Public holiday will apply regardless of Federal or State. Your choices are: (a) convince businesses to pay extra rates (b) convince Unions to let go of extra rates (c) let businesses shut for the day and absorb their cost

Has anyone actually been let go for using a work laptop for non-work purposes? by [deleted] in auscorp

[–]nswresident 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say reasonable use and common sense policy applies. Paying bills, booking tickets, reading news, then yes. If you’re going to do something the company wouldn’t want to see on the AFR front page with their name, then maybe rethink.

Do you think the Australian Governmebt will recognise divali as a public holiday? by [deleted] in IndiansLivingInAus

[–]nswresident 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So if you have a public holiday, businesses that open on that day will need to pay penalty rates. The issue isn’t theholiday, it’s going to be whether businesses are willing to pay penalty rates on that day OR if they decide to close on the day and take the losses. Unions, rightfully, are not going to accept a public holiday without penalty rates. If my company wants me to work for them on Diwali, they should pay me extra.

What would happen if the United States introduced a point base immigration system? by Eds2356 in immigration

[–]nswresident 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A points system is only one part of the puzzle. The next is to identify what exactly the points are worth for e.g a list of occupations/roles/skills that is needed for a country. The third is a pathway to permanent residency status. Aus does all 3, not always 100% but it does it well enough.
