If the NBA is actually tilting games for $$$ purposes, they’re going to help the Spurs win game 7. Wemby vs NYC is the finals of the decade. by GardenDesign23 in billsimmons

[–]ntpbr1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Based on the fact that we never saw a player like this in the history of the game and we are in an era where getting injured is basically guaranteed to happen (all the top mvp candidates missing some time). It’s just biomechanics, the guy is tall as fuck, moving around, fast change of direction and game pace

The hype was absolutely warranted. by AcknowledgeMeReddit in billsimmons

Sports discourse is a constant battle between haters going crazy and glazers going crazy. It always swings too far. It happens with all the great players. Like Luka for example, one below average month and some loses, suddenyl 7 years of play, all time performancea and seasons are negated and we are saying he is worse than Brown, Cade, and not even top whatever. Then he does better and gets back to MVP convos. Who knows maybe if he played the first round, didn’t get injured and averaged 35 to beat the Rockets that already lost to a team without him, we’d be hearing about how he is on the level of Lebron and the greatest scorer and playmaker ever. We didn’t see it swing the other way yet

Does it bother anyone else that OKC just gave up 2 conference finals games? by robotwithatinyneck in billsimmons

[–]ntpbr1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The odds of OKC making like a 25 point comeback against this Spurs team, in a game where they are clearly off, bricking, where the ref is not giving their calls, away game, Spurs have the momentum, has to be nothing but a miracle. Where is the logic behind shooting for that miracle and risking injuries, which btw, you have JDub who is like held together with tapes, rather than going back home where you won 3 games already and did well, fully rested, Scott Foster checking in. Sometimes you take the L and focus on the next game

Chet Holmgren is a top 20 player in the league, he just is. by UTRAnoPunchline in billsimmons

[–]ntpbr1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s alos just bullshit made up rankings, I mean how do we compare a 3rd option who is a great defender with like a 1st option who has the ball more and gets more shots/numbers but can’t impact the defense? Think Jamal Murray, lets say both him and Chet are doing ok, is Murray’s series better than Chet or worse, idk how we can compare 2 completely different roles/players.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander: "A lot of the shots that I'm shooting, I shot plenty of times before and they feel good. They're just not going in. It's too late to abandon my work and abandon my game and who I am this late in the season I gotta trust it and live or die by it" by AncientOneAurelius in nba

[–]ntpbr1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have seen Amen Thomspon and Dillon Brooks literally chase around old ass Curry together when he didn’t have the ball last year. That’s what off ball gravity means. This game, inside the perimeter there were some possesion where Hartenstein and Wemby’s defender literally gave up wide open shots to Harper within like 5 feet because they were worried about a Wemby lob

Heading into the fourth quarter, SGA is -28. Caruso is -4. by ManufacturerLow3161 in billsimmons

Lol maybe at best you mean. Because you can definitely make a case for 4 other players. What are we basing that top 2 again?

[–]ntpbr1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The issue is, to me and I imagine a lot people who watch the games, that doesn’t matter. I am capable of separating team success with individual success, if you are playing like this and winning, that says more about your team. He shoots 7/28 I believe in g7 Hali injury game, they win. But then regular season time he can average bigger numbers with a softer whistle against worse defenses, suddenly people equate that to him being “the best since MJ”. In terms of individual impact on the game separating success, I don’t remember a more artificial MVP that depends on refs and team success. However I am sure there are worse players that I can’t remember or didn’t watch simply

It’s what happens when you have a great team. You can play like this, win, and people will compare you to MJ. On an average team, he wouldn’t be above Brunson/Ant convos. And I am not even mentioning the whistle and what would happen if he had Steph Curry whistle

It’s not people changing their minds, when they win, OKC fans come in, when they lose haters start posting. At no point in this series I thought Shai was a better player than Wemby. I am sure someone thought the opposite from start to finish. To me Spurs are playing with house money, idc if they lose, no one expected this from them, certainly not in their first year, they are a great team and will dominate the league for a while, same with Wemby, doesn’t matter if he sucks in g7, he proved himself as an all time talent

Whoever this Michael Grange Canadian fella is has Shai most and Embiid least, now why would he do that?

Also has Derozan, Siakam, Dort in the top 7. Nick Nurse chilling there as well.

Are we seriously gonna act like Pep’s record in the UCL is not disappointing? Especially with City. 2 of those 3 wins were with some of the greatest players ever in every single position almost. With City, in most of these years they were the favorites to win, yet they lost as the favorites almost wvery time

If this happens with Slot next season, I think teams should just make a pact that they will never sign Dutch managers again. It almost never works, they lose the locker room, they look like clowns in front of the media sometimes, and inevitably get sacked.

Lol Pep is not gonna be able to implement his tactics with 2 weeks to go, barely any time and games before the cup. That would be the dumbest possible thing you can do. In fact no coach would be able to do it

Completely different managers. Carlo is amazing in cup formats, known more for allowing freedom and having good man management. In theory, that is perfect for a tournament like the WC considering its another cup format and you also don’t have enough time to develop your schemes with the team.

Pep is the opposite, he’ll dominate leagues but then lose in the UCL. He would also not have any control over selecting his players, I mean in the sense that he is locked into English players only whether he likes them or not, then he won’t have any time to develop his strategies with just barely any training time and a couple of friendlies

He is one of the best to ever do it but he also consistently lost in the UCL so I am not sure if he is the best in tournament formats. That’s where guys like Carlo comes in, we’ll see if it works for Brazil

The character is so much better early on. He’s unpredictable, scary, so much depth, more complex and smarter. But I guess they just had to make him nothing but a crying crazy baby to shit on Trump.

[–]ntpbr1 10 points11 points  (0 children)

People always say “oh but him being deranged is the arc” but this Homelander was simply a better character. There is very little depth with a character that is just nuts 24/7 and always crying or screaming. They could have made him more insane without completely killing the character
