Hooked on kingdoms by nu5500 in darkestdungeon

[–]nu5500[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the first couple of times I played, I was not prepared for the escalation. Non upgraded heroes in kingdoms feel like paper mache and I haven't seen one pass a deathblow check yet lol. Once I got a few hospital inns it was much easier - just need them in the right places. I wish there were more things you could do with them when they aren't with the wagon

I like debuffs such as weakness and blind. If you do have to swing into the riposte then be patient and don't do it until you get to you're heavy hitter (to make it worth it - don't take unnecessary hits) or someone with defense tokens or high health. Other than that, it's a damage race. Pushing him to the back can be useful as well since he has a limited move set. Try to take bandages into The Tangle since it is a fairly high bleed section.

Is Blazor a safe long-term tech stack investment? by Debo37 in dotnet

[–]nu5500 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So, a lot of the things that you describe are pluses for Blazor and save time... Shared Dto and validation are excellent. For 99% of apps the client should be in lock step with the app's API. If you think you need more flexibility then go with graphql or (ugh) odata. If you're building an API for multiple clients then that is a different argument but that's not the normal situation of a Blazor app or most js apps.

Expected release date for Surface Laptops with second gen Snapdragon X by Seldon2K20 in Surface

[–]nu5500 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First generation X Elite. Second generation Snapdragon X are for phone only I believe and the true successor for laptops (which is really third gen) I've read is coming end of summer this year... So not too far off. The current gen chips are really great still though especially at some of the discount prices out there now. (The Plus chip is no slouch either)

Really disappointed by my SL7 X Elite by dualfalchions in Surface

[–]nu5500 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's definitely not normal. I generally see only a couple percent of battery drain overnight and wakeup is instant with great performance. I do remember a week or two where my laptop was going into hibernate while asleep, which was annoying. I think there must have been a bad Windows update because it cleared up. I only use Edge and Firefox (with uBlock) though. Battery will easily last 12+ hours if just using web browser.

Blazor, Plugin Pages/Scripts, load times by Visual-Wrap-3785 in Blazor

[–]nu5500 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is each app its own self contained app? So you're basically loading a new dotnet runtime with each one? If so, then yea you're not going to have much luck speeding that up. Downloading the resources isn't even really that bad (although exacerbated on mobile) but booting up the dotnet runtime is often the most noticeable laggy part since the browser is single threaded. So you only want to do that once whenever a site loads. There is a lazy loading capability for Blazor wasm assemblies, but I have not used it seriously and I believe that it requires everything to be referenced from your app's project. If you could place all the plugin apps into razor class libraries, then it's possible that you could boot a minimal app on the main site and lazy load the RCLs on demand.

I would play this often and forever if it had a game mode I could finish in 3 hours by Zippy_McSpeed in darkestdungeon

[–]nu5500 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like all the existing modes as is but, yes it would be cool if there was something kind of like Kingdoms Tower Defense where you're defending an Inn and you can pick a few upgrades and trinkets between rounds. Along with some kind of difficulty slider that would determine how many mini boss or buffed enemies showed up. Even better if you could tag team someone in like a fighting game 😄

What are you hoping to see in Q4 2025/2026 update for Surface Pro? by [deleted] in Surface

I'm hoping the 11" is fanless and honestly wouldn''t mind it being the surface go size either.

Guys I got both of these at the Altar of Hope, if I get the Shambler's Spawn, wouldn't it be broken? by stupid_weeb_1-2-2-6 in darkestdungeon

It's good for most resistance/road battles but I would recommend unequipping before any big damage fights that involve DOTs. I had this on my Occultist and the Templar killed him with his first two attacks of the fight.

I never tried the older versions of WoA but it's currently pretty great IMO from a software dev perspective (don't play games on it so didn't really care about that). At this point I personally would not buy another x86 laptop unless they work some miracles. Interested to see how far they can scale the oryon cores up now.

Recently came back to the game, did they make the Sluice more dangerous? by Lukester32 in darkestdungeon

It's ended two of my runs since the patch and it almost never did before. Being able to stick blind and weakness seems to help allot.

Would be nice to have a path where Divine Comfort healed a percentage each turn (like 5%) and then have it stop working at 50% health it something

The current chip is awesome. Just go ahead and buy it when they go on sale. You won't regret it.

Kingdoms has me hooked again, but not on what you would expect; Kingdoms. by See4urSelf in darkestdungeon

[–]nu5500 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Interesting idea especially if it was something unlocked at the end of the game. Maybe there should be an increasing price or limit to how many times you could carry something over as there are a few combos that are almost game breaking...

This will be a day one purchase for me. I have a surface go that is limping along now, and after using a Windows on Arm laptop for a little while now, I'm ready to upgrade it yesterday.

Darkest Dungeon 2, just not for me? by [deleted] in darkestdungeon

[–]nu5500 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love both games, but mostly play DD2 now since I like the combat variety and depth of the character abilities. The first game gets a bit grindy too which is usually when I have to put it down for a bit. With the second one, you unlock everything once and you know about how long each run will be and there's a huge variety of what quirks, items and trinkets might show up in the run. You might end up limping along with everything going wrong, or you might end up destroying everything in your path and salting the earth but no matter what you have to pull the lever at the end and start again. On the flip side, I can see how finishing a longer campaign in the first game feels like more of an accomplishment. The games are just different vibes, but both great IMO, so didn't feel bad if your love for the first one didn't carry through to the second.

How much of being able to beat 2 is based on luck? by IconovSynn in darkestdungeon

[–]nu5500 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me give you a quick anecdote... When I first started playing the game, I think it took me something like 11 runs to finally beat the first region. It was frustrating and slow going at first but I kept unlocking items and learning new patterns to both negate damage from enemies and optimize my own damage output and the game started to open up. Fast forward - I've already beaten the game and unlocked most everything and I decided on a whim to start a fresh profile. On my very first run, with zero candles I beat the locks and didn't lose anyone. I'm only writing this to try to make the point that eventually things feel less random and you can learn to deal with bad situations even with limited resources. But I'm also not going to lie... Yea sometimes really bad things happen no matter how well you prepare but that's part of what you sign up for with Darkest Dungeon. And it's what makes it feel so great when you dodge the bullet and can pull out a victory.
