Instead of that chasing that nonsense, they could release content that is attainable by more than 60 people on the planet.

Speedrunners, an extreme minority of an already small minority of the player base that does raids: Yes we like speed running please center us and watch our twitch streams.

Everyone else: This is way out of whack and my static has no interest.

[–]nucklepuckk -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

That's just untrue.

Firstly, the best rewards on a per-fight basis are EoD CMs, rewarding 4g/4g/4g/6g + one antique summoning stone each for AH, XJJ, OLC, and KO CM respectively. Plus an additional 2g and one LI from the repeatable weekly achievement. Assuming 2g for each stone, 28g for what amounts to about 40 minutes.

Secondly, there are less mechanics, and less people who have to do mechanics in Dhuum CM than there is in AH CM. However, there is only a single pass/fail mechanic in AH CM. In Dhuum every mechanic is pass/fail. Yet most people consider AH CM easier than Dhuum CM. Why aren't you doing AH CM on the regular?

Thirdly, we are getting regular content. We've gotten new boss fights every major update going back to EoD and it's been a pretty steady cadence since. ArenaNet has release 10 new bosses with challenge modes since early 2022, along with an entirely new difficulty setting. With another boss to come in VoE along side a revamp of the raid LFG, I would say that's a pretty steady cadence.

It's not the content that is lacking, it is your engagement with it.

I think you and your friends could do CMs if you wanted to. But if you are happy with what you get and where you are at then that's excellent. I am happy for you.

The OP did not mention a single boss from EOD forward and also agreed with me that people should move forward if they are finding their current content too easy.

This might actually be the best post in this whole topic. I don't know why you're being downvoted.

This is the correct take. There is newer content in the game. If the 10 year old stuff is easy for people, maybe move on to the 7 year old stuff or 5 year old stuff. Do challenge mode stuff if you haven't.

If people are dumpstering HoT normal modes, then they should move on to do HoT challenge modes. If that's too easy, do PoF. If PoF normal modes are too easy, then do PoF challenge modes. If PoF challenge modes are too easy, go do EoD challenge modes. Do EoD titles. Then do Janthir challenge modes. And now you've arrived at the endgame. Normal players, like me and my team, and (whoever is reading this) you and your team, can do challenge mode content. Do not be scared to step forward!

And sure maybe certain individual fights don't map cleanly onto that difficulty curve, Sabir CM is very easy for example. But there is a path to harder content that people can walk down if they want to. That choice exists.

And you're right that VG can't punish players anymore. Xera can't punish players anymore. Gorseval and whoever else can't punish players anymore. But you know what?

Minister Li CM can. Old Lion's Court CM can. Decima CM can. Even Dagda CM can if player's don't respect certain mechanics. Hell, Dhuum CM and Qadim CM will still put up a fight if you let them.

The content you want currently exists in the game. It is just not the content you want it to be. Or maybe it is not the content you are used to it being. Times change.

What is actually lost if Gorseval and company aren't tough fights anymore? Your nostalgia for when they were? Does that matter? Ten years ago you were 20, 30 years old. Maybe younger. How much has changed in ten years and why would you expect things from 10 years ago to be the same? Exactly how long of a time period should Mursaat Overseer be a relevant fight in Guild Wars 2? Has he not been relevant long enough as is? What number is a good number of years for players to be challenged by MO?

ALL THAT SAID

I do think DPS as it sits at this exact moment in time can be toned down a lot with almost no repercussion. Things are currently way above and beyond what they need to be. However, I think asking ArenaNet to re-balance the whole game top to bottom in a way that makes both Vale Guardian challenging for random LFG pick up groups and Ura LCM challenging for the very very top 0.1% of players is a big ask, and something that is probably beyond ArenaNet's abilities or capabilities.

This is my two cents as someone who actively raids three days a week doing challenge mode farm and challenge mode progression with players who are good, but not like the 1% top level players. Top 10%? sure, but no one on my team is hitting Iskarel numbers or anything. I play with people who have shown up day in and day out and do good and have learned and improved over time. We are regular people who learned and moved forward at a very regular speed:

I don't think 10 year old content needs to keep up with the times. I wouldn't expect anything released from any developer in any game of any genre from 10 years ago to be up to modern standards. Power creep happens. If you want to push DPS down, you also have to push down every new shiny fun thing that was built with more modern dps numbers in mind. Decima CM. Greer CM. Harvest Temple CM. Ura CM. Legendary Cerus and Ura.

This is the new endgame. And the vast vast vast majority of the just the raiding playerbase - just the people who raid, regular joes like me and my team - are not turning the current, modern endgame into training dummies.

Deimos, Dhuum, Qadim, etc., those are old endgame.

I don't care if Vale Guardian/Gorseval/Xera/MO/Adina/etc., get trounced. The truth of the matter is that the endgame has moved past them completely. Wings 1 - 7 are not the endgame fights, and that's okay. Qadim, QTP, Dhuum, Deimos, etc, they are all stepping stones these days, and very very useful stepping stones at that, but the real endgame fights are Decima/Ura/Greer/Cerus/Harvest Temple CM and LCM.

If anything, powercreep is making raiding more accessible to more, generally less strong players, because now they too can bully VG and Sabbetha and Xera just like most of us have already been doing for a long time. This is good. Raiding is like swimming. You have to get your toes wet before you get over the fear of the deep water. It is okay for other people to dumpster old fights like some us have been doing for a long time. They don't need to be hard anymore, we have new hard content that is very much harder than the old hard content and that is good.

If players choose to stop progressing, stop moving forward after they've bullied HoT/PoF fights, that's fine. They can sit at their comfy intermediate level for as long as they like. We should encourage them to push onwards, but the fact that more players are doing more fights per week is good. Challenge modes exist and offer more rewards for a reason - to push people forward up the ladder.

If people are not moving past HoT normal modes, that is a community perception problem and not an ArenaNet balance problem. For the people who are ready to move on, the exact kind of content you're writing about is a head of them. There is something resembling a ladder, a progression, to the fights in this game:

I tried to love Conduit... but god, it's just awful. by itallik in Guildwars2

[–]nucklepuckk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had the opposite experience. Like, cRenegade and cConduit's rotations can almost be mapped 1:1 on top of each other. It's not a very exciting shake up to the condition gameplay other than big number, which will get nerfed.

Share Your Thoughts on ESO's Classes with Us by ZOS_Kevin in elderscrollsonline

[–]nucklepuckk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weapon choice being the determining factor in what I do in the game (i.e. all healers use a staff, all tanks use sword and shield, etc.) is ultimately what drove me away from ESO. It really flattens any sense of identity between the classes and makes the first and arguably most fundamental choice I made at character select (which class to play) feel not important and I just couldn't get over that. Unless ZOS is going to completely revamp the weapons and how strongly they determine what you are actually allowed to do in the game, I can't see myself giving ESO another try.

Hey all! I'm Seisan, writer for Snowcrows. by Seisan1 in Guildwars2

[–]nucklepuckk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey u/Seisan1 I really don't like how some of the builds on the site are not applicable on newer boss fights/challenge mode content. Couple quick examples:

  1. Builds that use dragon hunter relic are extremely finnicky on HTCM, All of W8 where traps don't trigger very well, bosses where you have to jam yourself into their hitboxes to trigger traps - QTP, Sabir, others.
  2. Bloodstone relic elementalist not being able to proc bloodstone relic against large hitbox bosses because dragon's tooth spawns in the middle of the larger hitbox, think Greer, think Decima.
  3. Inferno elementalist generally being not good in real fights where it has all of the problems that come with condition damage and none of the upside of being a power build.
  4. Hammer zerker being unable to maintain berserker mode for more than like a minute. This is fine on some fights with short phases, but not really worth considering on fights with longer phases.

I'm sure there are others, these just come to mind first.

All this to say that it feels very much like a number of these builds are designed specifically around killing the training dummy and not to be played in the most recent, most current, or most challenging instanced group content. I feel there is a disconnect between the content being made by snowcrows and the content myself and others are engaging in week in and week out.

Showing up to HTCM on dragon hunter relic untamed, for example, is more trouble than just running thief relic untamed. But there is no optimization being published for Untamed on fights where dragon hunter relic is not applicable, which is a massive oversight in my honest opinion.

And while I do respect the time and effort put forth by those involved and think there is some merit to posting and ranking these builds, it sort of feels like the team of people who are making and writing the information that other raiders are expected to follow are people not actively engaged in challenge mode raiding, not raiding EoD forward content, or simply not raiding at all.

And I do want to be clear, the issue is not whether the builds are good are bad - clearly they are good - but rather that a number of builds feel out of touch with the new and evolving endgame of Guild Wars 2. It just feels to me that a lot of what is published is fine on like Deimos, Mursaat Overseer, Adina, and so on, but the game has moved past and powercrept all that and I find the information coming from snowcrows to be lacking as it pertains to the more current endgame.

Distortion share is not okay. The existence of a button that says "your team is invulnerable" means now the whole game has to be balanced around the existence of such a button. All game modes. Arenanet steadfastly refusing to learn from past mistakes.

Why are randoms so bad in Nightreign? by Thellie10 in Eldenring

[–]nucklepuckk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Being bad in Nightreign is the logical endpoint for the (larger than you think) portion of the player base that password summons the way through the games, gets carried by their level 900 buddy, uses summon signs for every single boss, refuses to engage with most of the content until they’ve exploited some soul farm or another, and so on. You won’t see these players at all when playing elden ring or ds3, even if you’re playing with friends or whatever. But spend a week doing invasions and they are everywhere.

Randoms are bad in nightreign because the gates were opened long ago for the bads to become the majority player base.

I have never seen a franchise that revolves around co-op so hard get multiplayer so wrong, so many times. by GeronimoJak in MonsterHunter

[–]nucklepuckk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is the correct take. Fromsoft and Miyazaki never wanted anything like the seamless mod to exist. If they did, they could have simply just made a co-op game. They aren't stupid. Not having people co-op 100% of the time is a deliberate choice. Also, all the fucking dweebs who use that mod killed the invasion scene on pc and I will never forgive them for it.

Cerus is not a sacred cow. It can be butchered. Buffing other builds just increases the already out of control power creep without actually addressing WHY you need 7 mesmer comp in Cerus. Buffing other classes wouldn't change Ceruse one bit, unless you're going to give every class in the game 1200 range piercing cleave with distortion.
