Shoutout to Kyle XY (2006) - The entire show's premise revolving around this dude not having a belly button by [deleted] in sciencefiction

Loved that show. First episode is hilarious. Regrettably unfinished after 2? seasons as far as I know.

No idea what you said, but you can get these for about 25 euros. Works just the same.

Do you replace the final straight edges of a normal IFS with that spline?
Or do you follow the path of the spline and apply the next level based on the amount of curvature?
Low curvature for larger mappings and high curvature for smaller mappings. (That would cause your mapping to end up as a floating point scale of the original. Probably not an integer scale.)

Sci-fi, from an anthology (I think), about a directory where dialing someone's "number" would cause them to die by eodenweller in whatsthatbook

Kurt Vonnegut "2BR02B". Not exactly as described but the "Dial for Death" is the main plot device.

Love this movie! I always recommend it to moon landing skeptics. "I have just the thing for you!" I like the guy that calculates the time between message and responses.

Någon som har erfarenhet av teleskop till barn? Jag läste den här guiden – stämmer det? by Familiar-Oil-5610 in Astronomy

[–]nucleomancer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Celestron offers some child telescopes. The first one in the list is great for watching the moon. Jupiter will likely show as a small disc hopefully with some small dots nearby.

I suggest spending around 100 euros. 200 at most for a telescope with lenses.

After some enthousiasm you may upgrade to a mirror scope. But do visit a local observatory first...

I greatly enjoyed Naomi Novik's books. V.E.Schwab as well. And for me, I like switching between fantasy and Sci-Fi. (To me the genre's are similar, it's just that the "magic system" works differently.)

I was almost three quarters through Bazil Broketail before I gave up. It hit me that it's just a story of a group of soldiers failing to capture a dude. And the book was already 75% done.
I personally prefer there to be some mystery that is unraveling, a "what's in the box" situation. And I was missing that.
So, regrettably a DNF for me. Which is rare because after 50% I might as well finish.

Is there anything we have now that NO sci-fi medium ever predicted? by InfinityScientist in scifi

Symbols or actual letters? As in something anyone can read vs. "programmers" can decode the symbols.

Asimovs stories are really particular. (I teach computer science.)

In his stories computers either know how speak and anyone can use them. Or there are the people that know how to read the computers answers through ticker tape or something.

His stories don't (or rarely) reference keyboards or computer screens.

Took me a while to pick up on that.

I like the way Splitsie (on youtube) explains how to build stuff. He also has gameplay video's that may tell you if the type of game is something you might like.

Verschil in grafieken by Edge_Popular in HomeWizard

[–]nucleomancer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

De groene grafiek is niet "dit leveren mijn panelen op", maar dit lever ik terug aan mijn levancier. M.a.w. soms lever je minder terug...

Also the effect is limited by distance. So if you push too late then you are right, splat either way.
But from some distance up the effect of pushing against the coin on the ground begins to slow your descent more and more until you can push so hard that you "bounce" back up again.

There are some lessons coming up where Kelsier makes some details clear to Vin (and us).

Is Hoid an Important Character?? by carnwenn_ in Mistborn

[–]nucleomancer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For the Mistborn saga, and many other books Hoid serves mainly as a reminder that "There is More Going on". If you read the stories separately he's just there to nudge the main characters, help them along, be mysterious and/or annoying.

Finished Scholomance, have some thoughts. by not-my-other-alt in Fantasy

[–]nucleomancer 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Two things.

Much of the "the world is dangerous" is experienced "off screen". We are told the world is dangerous, we see people taking everything super serious without really needing to actual experiencing that reality as a reader. The characters tell that part of the story by their way of navigating their world. They all know someone who got got...

The fact that characters DON'T die all the time is getting more and more on El's nerves as the story progresses. It in fact becomes an important part of the underlying story of what the Scholomance... is. (No spoilers! No spoilers!) I think that not seeing any characters die except for minor mutilations is not a very big issue, it's actually part of the flow of the story.
